I still have openings for those willing to STHU and do as told. The position of potentate is filled at this time

Meh and I am still waiving my finger, whats your point?

I'm holding the position of sycophantic minion for you NUTS! Better jump on it before Rogue gets it. As sycophantic minion your entitled to a groovy set of ginsu
knives, a chia pet, and you get to tell people you know me. Your also exempted from the STHU club as your job will be disseminating the good word about the potentate. There is also opportunity for advancement and/or the possibility of franchising your own utopian vision for a modest fee. Then you can start growing
your own STHU minion base and start down the path to potentatency.

Awesome!

Problem though, I have no idea what those words over 6 letters mean.......

Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 2:28:18 PM

I don't either I keep a list of long ones around so I can throw them out there. Minion loyalty factor plummets as soon as they think they are as smart as you.
It's all part of being a potentate, You'll get the hang of it when you kickin it in your own utopian vision with a bunch of your own minions to tell to STHU.

Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 2:35:07 PM

Cool, minions rock on steak I'm in. Do I have to put STHU after my name now? Cause I just hate mushrooms on my steaks, gota have minions too.

Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 5:11:46 PM

LOL ta guele ! XD

Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 6:40:40 PM

I think filleting your minions will get you in trouble, they have a union you know and there are limits even for potentates. And putting STHU after your name would be too much like an army. Thats for kids. Think BIG, Think Potentatancy. You can practice on the wife and kids, although when you're just starting
out maybe the dog would be a better start, then the kids, If you can get your wife to STHU then you will truly have mastered the deep magic of potentatancy and be ready for your own utopian vision and lazy union minions.

Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 7:07:44 PM

Sweet, I'll give it a try.

Problem, what if the dog is smarter than me? Should I just get it a muzzle or put it on my steak? Plus the wife thinks I have a lot of potentatancy. Espicailly after I exponge my flatulance and put her head under the covers.

Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 7:42:38 PM

I think you can threaten to filet the non-union dog, ship it to korea and turn a quick buck. Let him know thats the plan and he'll STHU. I don't think rendering the wife unconscious using biological weapons of mass destruction qualifies though. It really needs to be accomplished verbally or it doesn't count.

Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 8:26:15 PM

Verbally? You sick (*)&^, were not into that. If you expect me to do that with my wife than I want no part of this!

I would rather have Tally keep trying to get my hammer ;)

LC88 s Pregame Preview, brought to you by Magic 8 Ball

Week 8

Sorry, no dancing 8 -balls could be booked for this weeks Pregame Preview

LCs picks (23 for 42: 55% accuracy):

Eds @ Bugs : Eds and Bugs may be the most evenly-matched teams in the league lately, with both losing games to the Billies in the last two weeks. This rematch promises to be a close one, with the teams splitting. Game 1: Eds by 8 . Game 2: Bugs by 8 .

Hams @ Seeds : Hams have dropped 4 straight, while the Seeds have a little momentum after knocking off the Muts last week. Dont give up on the Hams just yet. Game 1: Seeds by 8 . Game 2: Tie... 8 to 8 .

Billies @ Locos : Can the reviving Billies break the Locos 8 -game winning streak? Yes, I said 8 -game winning streak. 8 Loco games, March 8 , Week 8 , Magic 8 Ball. This is a sign from the Almighty Magic 8 Ball : The end of the world as we know it. Run for your lives. Locos by 8 and 8 .

Guest prognosticator of the week: Joe Maruschak, Co-Creator of Think Tanks
Yes, I actually wasted Joes time with this. No kidding! (Thanks again, Joe!)

Ok. Here are my picks:

Eds @ Bugs : Bugs. Because bugs are cool. Hard exoskeletons always win out.

Hams @ Seeds : Hams. Because when I order a sandwich, I think about the meat, and not about what is on the bun. Therefore, Ham has more power than the seeds, at least in my book.

Billies @ Locos : Locos. Locomotive vs. HillyBilly. Head to head, the train will win.

...hope I did that right, and I hope my reasoning of my picks is based on sound logic.

Joe

Magic 8 Ball Question of the Week
Can the Billies break the Locos 8-game winning streak?

Magic 8 Balls Answer: Very doubtful.

Special Magic 8 Ball Week 8 Challenge:
Any player scoring 8 points in Week 8 gets to be Guest Prognosticator of Week 9s Pregame Preview.
If no one scores 8 points, I might get creative. Say 4 and 2 points (4 X 2 = 8)?

As a show of support for the beloved Magic 8-ball on this special day, March 8, and during the Week 8 games, the Magic 8-ball requests that you incorporate at least one 8 into your name. For example: LC88, T8lly Ho, Reagent 8, Kentucky 8Billy, Racer888, B8lo, N8palm, D8sh, N8TS!, Hugo8, etc. Thank you and good night.

I would like to suggest supplemental columns from the disappointingly performing teams on bye weeks.

Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at 11:11:08 PM

On second week we played our first game versus LOCOS and we tied, 1 game each. They have now won 4 weeks straight not 8.

In PSL 9 the seeds won 5 weeks straight. Will the locos equal this mighty winning streak? %) Good luck to all teams tonight.

PS It's actually womens International day today , so I wish all the woman out there an excellent day from the one and only DELTA agent of CHANGE !. ;)

Wednesday, March 08, 2006 at 4:56:17 AM

I think someone should inform the guest prognosticator of the full names of the teams. He is correct that the BUGS, AKA Bubblegunners, will win, but the logic test he uses needs to be adjusted with bubblegum in mind rather than insects.

My thoughts on lag.....

The recent issues had me thinking about lag and ways to avoid it.... God knows we, the billies, have had our share of trouble with lag issues on game nights ( which we discussed and kept between ourselves 8o ).

One of the things the league could decide to do to have a chance at better ping is changing the time of games. Ok ok take it easy.... I know some of you ( mostly the easterners) will jump at my throat on this one ) but here's why:

I've monitored my connection recently, having some issues, and noticed that between 6:00pm and 8:00pm my connection drops to 50%... Yes 50%. I have a very good connection ( 5.7 mbps down and 680 up) and it drops to 50% mainly because normal people ( that does not include ourselves XD ) will surf the internet right after dinner.

Having said that, 8pm PT would not be bad for the westerners and since most players in the league (my guess) are not kids 11pm ET is not that outrageous for half an hour of gaming ( we just have to deal this with the wives XD ).

Just my 2c.

Ctb and ham split. Screenies to come later

B

Wednesday, March 08, 2006 at 7:58:12 PM

Eds and Bugs split.

We all need to have a serious conversation about the maps. Both teams were briefly discussing a bit after the game about the growing lag problem. The maps are now in question. Are they getting to elaborate for a game that cannot handle them?

Again, before anyone talks about we need to expect lag or whatever else. I'm not friggin talking about that. I'm talking about the growing amount of server lag as the maps get more and more elaborate. Don't get me wrong, they're pretty. But, are they screwing us in the aft end? Enquiring minds want to know.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

Wednesday, March 08, 2006 at 8:06:11 PM

Hey Napalm, thanks for your superior sportsmanship tonight!! (my v card went south during game 1 and dash observed after that). Sorry Hillbillies, looked like you gave them a run for the money though....

Wednesday, March 08, 2006 at 8:07:23 PM

Well here's another bit of observation to follow up on your lead Rogue - I really lagged on the game tonight as most of us did in that match, but when I play these maps on other servers like Roos on late night random team games, I get small bouts of lagg occassionally, but it's MUCH better overall. Perhaps it does have to do with players hosting.. Not sure, but testing seems to be needed. I know it's mid-season, so I don't expect much to happen between now and the end, but perhaps before PLSX XI starts up, some more testing could be done.

Wednesday, March 08, 2006 at 8:19:09 PM

There probably is a correlation between maps that have more colors (6 textures in instead of 3) but these are only 8 player games. I think it's a combination of things. I can tell you playing, and hosting on the same machine is not the best way to go, but most peope don't have multiple machines.

There are quite a few players in the league this year that we don't know what their IPS connect is.
There are more intense maps.
The action in league games are unsurpassed. Personally I think this is the one that has the most to do with it.

It's just too bad that we all don't have setups like dash and Roo to host all of our games.

Wednesday, March 08, 2006 at 8:33:09 PM

Great games Locos! Thanks dash for sitting when KKB lagged out. Game 2 was super fun!

Why didn't we play on Roo's server, it was set up. Heck we missed Jacque for some of the first game because he lagged out. I would like to thank Magenta for leaving, lag was still there, but not as bad as last week. This week I had the weird lag of driving by someone and lag out were I couldn't even turnor fire.

@BC
Um hows that server colo commin?

Wednesday, March 08, 2006 at 8:34:37 PM

^ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU!

Gads, I thought maybe my game pad or usb channel has been choking! I'm not kidding. I even replaced the Belkin Nostromo with a new unit thinking I had worn out the old one.

I've been asking on the severs when I play if anyone else is getting stuck from no key response.

God)*(&^)(*&)(*&_+)+^$^%()&_)*$)()*_)*^&& it!

When I first plugged in the new pad it was fine. Went into one of the late night games and when the action is intense (especially with other tanks are near me) I get NO RESPONSE from the key pad. I'm stuck with no response from pressing the key. Not always, just when you want to get the heck out of dodge fast.

I'm just sitting there unable to move. God)(*^%(*&)&))_+^$^&^$*& it!

OK, I'm starting to see a pattern here. This did not happen before I started to play on the modded maps.

What the heck is going on?

A very good point. The psycho maps shouldn't be exceeding the complexity of the original maps. They are stretching the engine unnecessarily .

Regarding the maps, I hadn't yet looked into this but Trivox has been tuning his maps using the wingman script. In order to optimize them for frames per second. He makes them, decorates them with objects, etc and then plays the map and monitors fps. If it seem lower than what he usually gets he drops or moves objects or changes something. Maybe he'll jump in here and comment on it.

If it is the maps then the lag is starting on the client (individual peoples computers) as their hardware is having trouble with rendering speed. But if peoples computers start getting maxed out rendering then they're comp will have less time for handling network traffic and they'll be lagging to everyone else and their interaction quality with the server will tailspin into suckage.
I was having some trouble last night but that was SBC's fault. It was taking me too long to kill people

Indeed. Even though I got the dual 2.0 with 1.5 gig of ram, I still see a different quality of gameplay on different maps. This is a mistake on the part of mapmakers, and something we erred in overlooking in the map selection process.

Thursday, March 09, 2006 at 7:11:31 PM

^ how about updating that chart?

I agree with dash, I think it has a lot to do with the combination of the maps and the players machines. Oddly, Dash has hosted our home map, and other teams maps and all of the games have been smooth. The only game that I played in that felt abnormal was the one I hosted and played on (on the same machine.) Again, it's too bad we don't all have great data centers to host maps in.
It very well could be some of these maps are to intense graphically for this ageing game.

Sadly the newer GG games support interiiors, envrionmrntal effects like windstorms, snow, and dynamic skies and water effects. Maybe TT will simply never be able to achieve the same capabilities. Maybe pickup games would be better suited for some of these maps.

Again, people should have tested these, the oppertunity was there. More effort should have been made.

Regarding the maps...my 2cents
I read an article/post by 56kLagMan a while back about the video demands of TT
Not vebatim but heres the gist "TT was built around 4 texture combonations to alleviate video demands"
So I went back to 4 textures only

I found that voids in skins (no overlap) produces lag spots. If you place a powerup there it acts
like a rock.So I spent an inordinate amount of time on future maps making sure I did a good paint job

I found that when creating if you use the default setting on TGE @ 512 512 1024 1024 this produces a 500k map file.
So I set the area to the same as TT and produced smaller file sizes.

Now I have heard that my server is good for most peoples. As is the Dasher and IM as well.
So that kinda blows holes in the MOD MAP conspiricy theory
When TBML used to run on these three servers the lag complaints dropped to the wayside
And most peeps were more interested in the competition. But as history has shown (season5)
Once the lag became an issue there was "bad tude" everywhere
Figure out the best hosters and designate who hosts what (with backup)
The bad connections or people who have to host on the same machine that they play on are diminishing the FUN
