@ Rule Changes
Yes I agree...changes should not be made during the season. We all know what we are getting into at the start of things. But I think its worth considering in the off season. I dont want to get overly invested in rules becuase im here for fun and the people...not trying to go down the TBML road.
@ t-34
Lol. I appreciate the sentiment even if I dont agree with that. G1 tho. :P
Consider this the demise of CTB. Turn in your guns, I have some nice overalls for you.
BTW:
Has HBM considered picking up John S. After the Pai debacle? John is still looking for a team, has been patiently waiing, is a good player, and still wants on a team.
Just thoght it worth being mentioned.

LC50 s Pregame Preview, brought to you by Magic 8 Ball
Week 7
LCs picks (22 for 36: 61% accuracy):
Billies @ Eds : Well, the Billies had their day in the sun last week, squeaking out two 1-point victories over the Bugs. This week, they find themselves getting the full brunt of a drool-fest. Eds by 5 and 7.
Muts @ Seeds : Muts are on a 4-game skid after taking a beating from the all-but-unstoppable Locos. Seeds have had some trouble. Expect a Muts rebound this week, deflating all the hot air and bear photos. Close game though; Muts by 2 and 1.
Bugs @ Hams : Clueless on this one. These teams are the true wildcards of the league. Split games. Bugs by 6, Hams by 3.
Guest prognosticator of the week: Coach Skip, Little League Manager
Billies @ Eds : Hey, chin up Billies, you guys are doing just swell. A&W Root Beer on Coach after the game, I promise! Yes, you Eds are a great bunch too. Your little yellow bus is great, real special. No, I dont know why its so shiny. No, put that down. Hey, come back here. Dont make Coach Skip call Manny. No GFI, you leave NUTSs special helmet alone. No, it wont fit you. No. Please let go of Coach Skips shiny whistle. Has anyone seen Jacques?
Muts @ Seeds : Ok Seeds. Ready on 1-2-3.... Hey thats not very sportsmanlike. Were all here to have fun. Hey, thats not nice. My real job isnt important. Right now Im Coach Skip, and if you guys want your root beer after the game, youre gonna have to get out there and have some fun. Muts, you guys are doing great.... Prey... Cmere. Is your Mom here today, Prey? Oh wow, great, yeah I see her. She sure is pretty. Dad couldnt make it, hmm? Well, tell you what, youre gonna bat first today, Prey. And play any position you want!
Bugs @ Hams : Ok, DonkeyCloneArmy, gather up all the bats! On the double, mister! Hams, way to hustle out there. Hugo, suck it up, sport, that was just the first inning. Oh yeah. Always do you best, teams, and just say no to drugs!

Don't forget the 8 Maids-a-Milking. And make them French maids, yaaaa...that's the ticket.
Good stuff LC.
LC's on the right team. Heh. Funny.
Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.
Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.
On the eve of the Hampster's match against the infamous Bubblegunners, Captain Lonewolf gets a little nervous during an interview. Here's some footage one of the clones just happened to pick-up while spying on the wolf just moments ago -

That last sigh just really sums things up.

CTB sweeps MUT
EDS VS HBM was a waste of time. Lag ruined any substance of a would be game. I could have sworn I was in Lep's Lair while Lep was playing. Blah.

So, any results from EDs & HBM?...or...
I was always under the impression that we were unable to host and play on the same computer. I could have swore that this was brought up in the past. I know we have the home field advantage but I didn't think that was also for home server advantage. Yes, when I host I have the other computer 3 feet away and I still ping over the 20's. It gives to much of an advantage to the home team. Yes, please claim I am upset because we lost one game, I never lose ;). If I knew that the game was being hosted and played on the same computer I would not have played. Did not realize it till I died 2x by the same person who I normally take out easy and I never heard the bullets. I beleive it should be a RULE that teams are not allowed to play and host on the same computer (personally I already thought it was).
Eh eh he... Those HBMs got under yer skin did they? Eh heeh.
SEEDS all the way.... Up to the top XD XD XD
Eh eh he... Those HBMs got under yer skin did they? Eh heeh.
Umm yes yes they did. Thanks for reading the post fully........
So no one has a prob that next game we host I play on the same computer?
Last edited: Thursday, March 02, 2006 at 6:23:58 AM
Just to ballpark that issue^ my 1 Ghz Mac uses 100% of it's processor for brief moments while playing TT, so it's not adequate to serve and play on simultaneously. Plus my cable's 220 Kbps upload speed is borderline at best for the traffic of an 8 man game. On a bright note I'm getting the cable bumped up to 10 Mbps down/ 1 Mbps up next month which will allow me to host 3 games at once (on three different computers).
Yay CTB! :)
However you want me to kick it for you is fine by me XD
Question for you BC. Before the game I was pinging at my usual West Coast ping of 150+. Once the game started I began pinging at 250+. Any answer?
I concur with Nutso. If you're hosting and playing on the same machine and it hinders folks, including your own team, you shouldn't host.
This is twice in two seasons that I've played HBM on their home map and it makes me wonder why I play in PSL.
The rumor mill says this is a common occurence, but only playing their once a season wasn't reason enough for me to object.
Food for lag. I mean thought.
Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

At least I didn't lag continuously tonight. All that suckage was my own doing, no outside help whatsoever! XD
Server/playing issue and why I dislike it.
Server with me in it on a different computer
Server with me playing/hosting
I did this test on my server machine running linux and ussing an AMD Athelon 64 28000
As you can see there is a huge difference when playing/serving on the same computer. Which is why I would like to have it as a rule that no one can serve and host on the same machine. I know everyone is subject to the lag (including own team) but if you have one person thats pinging at 15 and able to take people out like its nothing or cause more lag for all by just firing,is not fair in my opinion.

I'd guess that the routing changed for some reason. The further you are, the more chance that can happen. The way to probe further is to use OS X's Network Utility and run a traceroute. You'll need to know the hoster's IP address to do that.
Next month I'll be able to put up visible backup servers in Iowa that will route through Chicago via my new 1 Mbps cable. Hypernia just introduced services from Dallas yesterday but they are very expensive. I'm also working on shoving three ibooks into a case for locating in Denver. Its always a shame to get 8 good players together and not have an enjoyable experience for all.
I was also under the same impression as nuts, hosting and not playing on same computer was not allowed. Thats why I'm always sending out emails to all my friendly hosters out there to book servers with them. Ooo yah hey server hosters thanks for all your help again!
Side note this is the first time I hear about this being done this season.
It has been this way for the last 2 - 3 seasons. From the rules:
When a game is played on your Home Field, the Home Team is responsible for hosting the game and can choose the server.
We did this to ensure that we have enough servers available and to avoid disputes and delays over choosing a server every time. That's also why we make sure the schedule has an equal number of home/away games (to even out any advantage/disadvantage over the whole season). Remember the days when EVERY WEEK the games wouldn't start for half an hour as we jumped from server to server with people complaining and arguinig about servers? I think this rule has smoothed out that aspect for the most part. Games have started quite smoothly and has been a more pleasurable experience on the whole I think. No matter how you slice it, the playing field is never going to be perfect. We have to just come up with ways of playing games without extra hassle and even for all teams over the season.
@NUTS! Thanks for bringing this up here. I hope you understand that I did not want to have this discussion in the middle of our PSL game (which is why I didn't respond to your flood of "This is bs" spam messages during the game).
@Rx
(which is why I didn't respond to your flood of "This is bs" spam messages during the game).
Yes your right it was flood. Like I said I was under the impression that it was wrong to play/serve on same computer. Happy to discuss the issue but if you want to discuss my flood of "spam messages" please send me an email, I will not respond to those here.
I don't think that's Nuts' point at all RX. He's simply saying that by you hosting the game was hosed for seven other players. Most if not all were upset with the server. There is a big difference between a laggy server and a laggier server where the host is also playing on the same machine.
Case in point. The Lair has always had trouble with lag. You can always tell when Lep is playing because the lag gets exponentially worse. This is what happened last night.
Personally I would recommend that no captain play on your home map while you are playing and hosting. I'm not being bitter or upset with you personally. I'm just pointing out that it stunk and I about had a seizure from that friggin strobe effect. When the entire map flutters, not just the tanks, something is wrong. Although, the big difference between you and the Eds is that if Nuts was hosting and we were all lagging we would have had Baba toss up a server to accomodate all.
Here's what may have helped Nutso get a little bitter and I paraphrase. Several players said, "The lag seems very bad for all, let's try another server." Everyone was announcing their horrible ping prior to the game. The key response made to these claims was, "Stop whining and play."
I agree, jumping around to find a better server is a waste of time and so was last night.
P.S. Again, this is twice in two seasons that we've had issue with your server and no attempt to rectify the situation was made. Last season it was a laggy server with the added bonus of a player on your team with the vanishing lag.
While I'm ranting I might as well say this also. By your team not responding this assumpition could be made, "Guys don't respond. Let's just get the win and they can whine on the forums." In the words of Al Pacino, "Don't waste my mother bleeping time!." Take action or at least respond. After all you are the head of this attempt at some fun. It's true we have limited resources but a fix could have been easily made last night. Seven dudes lagging with one player running around with a 10 ping is not my idea of a good time.

I think we need more servers spread around the country that are in real datacenters, not on the end of cable modems and dsl lines and being played on by the hoster. The problem is one of money. We make do with the hosting team concept because servers in datacenters are expensive. Until the day we have those, we kind of just have to think of this as a fun thing. If we had servers in every major city in the US to choose from we'd be able to find a happy middleground for everyone for every game. We just don't have that at this time, its expensive.

That's the idea Big D. Prior to being screwed the Eds would welcome a three on three or doing anything else to accomodate the other team so a fun game could be played. You know this, you were an Ed in Season 8.5. A good time is my objective, being ignored or told to stop whining when the shoe is on the other foot is not.

Ah are we getting somewhere? I'm sure everyone means no harm in their comments, we are all adults. Let's get this solved how can we do this? Offer solutions peoples that are within our actual means/resources at this time. :o
HAM-MER! HAM-MER!
^ There will be NO hammering in the PS X thread. XD
The solution is simple. If the host of a match is to play he must not do so on the same computer in which the server is being supplied.
Done and done.
We make do with lag. That's no secret. The problem we had last night, and from what I hear in previous weeks as well, could be easily avoided. Less lag is the goal corrrect?
