@ All
I don't give a dam who you are,
if you don't belong in server,
didn't ask before hand about Observering,
then STAY THE HELL OUT ! XO

Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 8:44:52 PM

Agreed. Again, sorry to be so rude to you, but we were already borderline lagging in the game, and we didn't need the extra drain of spectators, and you just popped in in the middle of a game. 3 strikes rule. B)

Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 8:55:02 PM

@Lone,
Take a chill pill dude. Can you prove to me that observing creates lag?

@TMO,
Thanks for the explanation.

@All,
My bad for dropping in during the middle of the game. Don't be so rude next time please. B)

A couple of reminders from Rx's info page:

1)

The Hoster should be running the latest dash admin codes as well as Slugthog's Averaging script.

Prey needs the linux version. I think it helps to prevent lopsided games(fbs).

2)

Observers must change their color to red and must not chat at all during the games.

Prey used chat as an observer during game 1.

Feel free to deny MUT the 5th point for the double infraction. :P

Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 9:19:04 PM

;) Well, we happened to be in the middle of a tight-fought game, and didn't really have time for idle chit-chat. "Out" is the shortest way of passing the requested information to you. :D

And, yes, observers cause lag. More people hitting server = more lag, in all cases. If the server is performing optimally for all players, the additional lag is miniscule and not noticeable. On servers not so optimally performing, it is much more noticeable, as the borderline is much closer. Given that Magenta was hosting and playing on the same PC, it wasn't an optimal server. Not that it was horrible - I only had a couple of jaggy moments, but nothing that affected gameplay I believe. Unless I can blame my poor aim during game 2 on it... ;)

I believe observers are not allowed in games, except by prior approval of both captains. Given the storm over lag that's happened here the last few weeks, I wouldn't expect that approval to happen anytime soon. ;)

Other than some possibly hurt feelings, no harm done. Next time just make sure to get prior approval or wait until after the games are all over to pop in. You can tell when players start leaving the server (or the server is shot to hell and the game is pretty much moot at that point anyways).

Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 9:26:17 PM

^^ Prey has both the scripts installed. Is there a better version not linked?

He was red as obs. Yeah he did chat one line..for shame!

I think BC is red too :)

I agree with TMO also. No reason for obs in games.

Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 9:29:12 PM

Given that Magenta was hosting and playing on the same PC,

Ooohhh.... That explains everything...

Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 9:33:07 PM

I'm afraid obs isn't a happening thing for PSL. Too bad, its a lot of fun to watch PSL.

^^^I don't think Prey had the script working. I remember distinctly the scrum falling off the edge and reappearing outside the circle of players. This is the type of thing centralized neutral servers would avoid.

I hope to have the Dallas servers up as an option for the finals and then future seasons.

Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 9:58:44 PM

Prey has the script installed. We've been over this.
both caps agreed he could stay. When his presence was bemoaned, he left.

Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 10:24:06 PM

Aye - entering a server in the middle of a game is a strict no no! This causes a disruption. No one should have to stop and type a detailed politically correct message. I think it is understandable that quick words were said. Please avoid this at all costs!

Arranging to have an observer ahead of time is fine. But they should really keep it zipped. :)

I wonder if there is a problem with the averaging script for the Linux boxes. I thought I noticed some non-central drops in Nuts! Server tonight as well. Anyone know how well this version works on Linux machines?

BTW, good games tonight Ed's!

Ooooh, you mean Think Tanks does Dallas?

Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 10:44:46 PM

I also was the admin of the game. Only thing I was used for, to restart the game (30 time count down game 1). The obs was suggested by Tally. I wasn't that interested in hanging out and not playing. I typed "tm woot" followed by "eek", after a 3 on 1 defensive steal. Call me a defense fan.

Think from the game reports, lag wasn't a problem during games. I think admin-ing was the reason Tally even suggested obs to monitor probs?

The sluggy avg script is installed, but does not seem to work for Linux servers. The "Windows" version. At least it doesn't crash the server like the Mac version. The Mac version does show it is installed, but in a negative way. It was suggest by BC to check with NUTS. I think that the Linux versions server better, like the Shockwave servers. They just don't have the mods worked out.

Your correct it was not installed. Sorry just did a fresh install of the OS and forgot. The version that I have is one of the first ones. It is just an averager and does not have the centralizing feature that I think Sluggy added later. I am not a fan of this version of the averager. Since our map is small and we have a few drops towards the edges its almost guranteed to get the loop drop going at least twice a game. Also the team that happens to be camping at the time (since its just an averager, small map, goal stays were is, do the math) is almost sure to get the goal and I was burning marshmellows last night. Ultimatley the linux version is an old version that I don't think is to great for playing with, which is why I think Sluggy had updated it. I have seen more FB's created by the script then with it off. I thought the fb's were evenly distributed last night. Would be nice if somebody ported the newer script to linux and/or Windows.

Did anyone notice any "skipping" lag last night? I know we had some high pingers (otherwise known as west coasters, heh) but I dodn't see any one skip. I had made a few small changes. Got rid of my router, internet line goes directly to server. I connect to the server via another ethernet card. Also opened settings in my firewall and hardware setting for packet amounts. Not any real big changes, but just trying to figure out some small little tweaks.

Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 4:50:54 AM

Damn I wish I understood hardware-speak. :(

Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 7:05:04 AM

Just ask dash, I'm sure he has a working version of it.

Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 7:16:50 AM

Heh, you're not alone TMO.

Yes, I didn't see anyone skip at all during our game. I got my wish, finally. Now if I just could play a little more so I wouldn't suck so bad.

Somebody mentioned playing at later times next season, I'm all for that if it's agreed upon. Getting home at 9:30 from work then having to punch the wife around a bit before starting my puter doesn't give me adequate time to prepare. XD

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

Good games HBM's. Some fine moments that really wiped away the bad taste of our last match. It's nice to see that you guys have the decency to let the slow kids win a game from time to time.

DROOL

Saturday, April 01, 2006 at 3:36:59 PM

I've been playtesting the different tanks while skin designing the last few days, and have found that the Medium tank is actually one of the best. I fight solo versus 6 of my bots in TBM, and have scored the best using the Medium. I think we should adopt the Medium for all future PSL seasons - they're a good mix of speed, hardiness, and firepower.

Saturday, April 01, 2006 at 4:15:49 PM

Finally... XD

Saturday, April 01, 2006 at 4:55:29 PM

Phew! Glad that's over with! Seriously - it took me 3 tries to get a higher team score against my bots in a Medium, while I was able to do that the first time in a Heavy. Not only that, but I only won by 5 points in the Medium, while I was 11 points up as a Heavy.

Throwing the Light into the comparison isn't really fair as I have MUCH more experience in one, but I typically win by 10-20 I think.

Actually played some games of Scrum yesterday as a Medium in support of the April Fool's. Wheeee!!! Pseudo-camping is SUCH FUN!! X/

Playoff Update!
The top 4 teams will go into the playoffs. 1st place team (home team) plays 4th place team (visitor). 2nd place team (home team) plays 3rd place team (visitor). Then the two winners play each other for the final championship game.

@Ho: can you add 2 additional weeks to schedule for the post season? 1st week: semi-finals, 2nd week: finals. Thanks!

From the rules page:

PLAYOFFS : The top 4 teams will advance into the playoffs to be determined by final league standings. During the playoff matches, the teams cannot tie. Thus a minimum of 2 games are played using the same match scoring system described above. In the event of a tie after the first 2 games (e.g. Tie followed by another Tie, or a Win-Loss followed by Loss-Win) then a 3rd game is played. Additional games are played until a team has more points than the other. For example, if Team A wins Game 1 and Game 2 is a Tie, Team A wins the match (final score of 3 to 1).

LC50 s Pregame Preview, brought to you by Magic 8 Ball

Week 12

LCs picks (37 for 66: 56% accuracy):

Seeds @ Eds : Its all about who actually bothers to show up for the Seeds. Poor attendance wont plague the Seeds again this week. Eds by 3; Seeds by 5.

Bugs @ Billies : Bugs upset by spoiler Billies. Billies by 4 and 1.

Locos @ Muts : Locos are on a 5-game skid, while Muts are rolling strong on a 4-game winning streak. A Muts loss here could have big implications for the Final Four. Can the Locos recover? 3 words: home field advantage. Muts by 4 and 2.

Magic 8 Ball Special Feature: Final Four Bubble Watch

Whos in and whos out? Whos on the Bubble?

Better Luck Next Season : Billies are out for sure. Tough luck for the Militia all season long.

Fat Chance : Eds need to sweep both games to have a hope of catching the Hams for that coveted 4th place spot. For a bunch of guys that hardly ever play the game, they gave it their best. A long bus ride home for the Eds.

On the Bubble : Seeds and Hams. Seeds have three games left, 2 against the leagues bottom dwellers. Hams have only 2 tough games against the Locos and Muts. The Hams would need big sweeps against these teams and a couple of stumbles by the Seeds. Assuming the Seeds show up to play their last few games, expect to see Seeds in 4th and the Hams out-of-luck. Coach Skip sure likes the cute Hamster pictures, though.

Smoking, but Hitting Arrow Pad Into Goal : The Muts and the Locos are likely 3rd and 2nd place teams, respectively. Both teams are in solid point-range of the Final 4, and are more-or-less holding it together of late. Count on the Locos to recover from their skid, partially.

Locked and Loaded : The Bugs will finish out strongly and take pole position from the Locos.

Magic 8 Ball Question of the Week
Can the Eds pull off a miracle?

Magic 8 Balls Answer: It is decidedly so.
