I second that %)

If there is a mod to make the observer either invisible on the radar, or another color, that might work.

But to have "extra" players on one team/color listed and chatting during a game can add unecessarily to the confusion.

Mind you I would love a pure "observe mode" to watch some of these games.

It would bring out the voyeur in all of us.

Tuesday, March 02, 2004 at 4:31:38 AM

Agreement is made pre-game whether rounds will be 3 on 3 or 4 on 4 or what not. Seeing an opening in an ongoing (check your watch) 4 on 3 is irrelevant, as 4 on 3 games are impossible, null, and generally void under the rules of Psycho and thus the fourth is either an observer, or an interloper and a pain in the ass. Until Z shares the goodness that is observer mode, observers now will have to deal with the drain-circling camera rotation.

Who's idea was that.

We witnessed first hand that having an observer can still cause some problems. We had a fourth player (who jumped off a cliff and was an observer on radar), but there is something disconcerning about seeing four players against three in the players list. It caused confusion for the other team in both of our games. I personally think the fourth person should not be allowed to observe unless they are tagged with a different color or are invisible to all players.

Just my thoughts.

Yes, it was in our game. And, yes, it was not right.

Please no experimenting with observer scripts in games.

Also, unless the caps determine well in advance that it is 4 on 4, then it needs to stick to 3 on 3.

While I did not play in the scrum league before this one, it was apparent after listening to comments that doing simple things could be difficult.

For example, BABA would drop in a game and remind someone not to forget to set up a server again and so on.

Please let us stick to a simple format.

Caps must communicate well before matches and then to players to make adjustments. (For example, notice your indents for starting times were off on the chart last round, Tally? Or reading wrong?)

Even so, this has made for good games and is a blast!

Until we actually designate some sort of FUNCTION or REASON to have an observer, they should not be allowed. The tournament is no place to experiment with such things, and could cause an upset since some of these games are extremely evenly matched. Yes, it would be fun to see the actionbut it doesn't help the players. It adds to lag, potential confusion, and possible interference.

Not that I have an opinion on the matter or anything. ;) My server can only handle up to 6 players before it starts lagging. Observers will be kicked, unless Tally states they must be permitted.

Yes, agreed all around. The basic notion of observing a game is very intriguing to me, but the current game setup does not allow for it, at least not in a league competition without creating confusion, extra blips on the radar, and potentially lag and interference. Hopefully in the future we can have a function to allow this that will not create such problems for the teams involved.

That said, I don't personally feel game 2 against The Steel Corset was in question. They outplayed us, quite simply. On top of that, we had some horrifically bad spawns. At one point, I half expected to spawn on a distant island off the main map. Oh well, luck was not with us last night. Good games overall though.

No observing unless we use -z-'s script... I did that once on a -z- server and it was cool....my opinion

Oh, one other thing I need to comment on here:

For all players, caps, everyone, PLEASE, do yourselves, your teammates and competitors all a favor and get a sticky note or piece of paper and tape and write down the game server password, and stick it onto your monitor or computer. We can't afford game delays because of forgetting the password or mistyping it etc. And having to scramble at the last moment into our email accounts to find it. Now that the password is the same for all servers going forward in the league, this will make it seamless.

Also, one thing to note. Several players have discovered that using the Cpas Lock for capitals in the password doesn't seem to work. Apparently you need to use the Shift key. I personally haven't run into this, but it's possible I have just always entered it with the Shift key without thinking about it. Anyway, just something to note - don't use Caps Lock!

Thank you!

Tuesday, March 02, 2004 at 6:37:29 PM

@OM: funny u should say that about sticking the password to the monitor because thats wat I did as soon as I found the password out... And I also have experienced the caps lock problem first hand... U must use shift...

As far as observing in these games... I feel that it would be adding unnecessary stress to the servers.

A poem:

I work like mad to clear my list,

I squeeze my ball to prep my wrist.

For when its time I'll leave my world,

To see the Shell Shockers flag unfurled.

Rook$ and Bomb shall appear again,

While Bolo takes No-Doze pillsat least ten.

Az used a sledge-hammer to boot his PC,

And perhaps all of Shell Shockers together will be!

The Glamdring will arrive with OM in lead,

But the Shock they will get will make their eyes bleed!

Right now we are tied, which means even game,

But its time we get seriouswe will pound, shock, and maim!

------

And now, back to work! ;)

The Horde 21 - The Clonus Horror 16

The Horde jumped out to an early lead, taking Game 1 10-7, but found themselves down by a total of 1 point a little over halfway through Game 2. We clawed back to win Game 2, though, 11-9.

Two great games, despite the universal niggly lagging from my server.

Friday, March 05, 2004 at 1:35:54 AM

Hats off to a well played game by the Steel Corset, who defeated the Black Sheep tonight. GG guys!

A word to all captains: Please make sure you are on top of telling your players when game time is! We had two separate visits in the middle of our match by a player who seemed to have no clue about what was going on. To make matters worse, the player was using a name I had never seen before! This was very distracting and broke my concentration. 8(

March 4 Glamdring vs. Shell Shockers

Game 1: 14 - 8 Glamdring

Game 2: 13 - 7 Glamdring

MVP: Dar

Big thanks to OM and dar for the screenshots

Capt OM sat out and aza is still MIA. Played 2 non-goal bowl spooky levels. Shell shockers were outplayed by glamdring. Even though the goal spawns and diving on the part of glamdring was annoying they clearly outplayed the shell shockers as a team. Shooting was better and blocking and passing was better. Rooks played well despite his unfortunate spawns. JB and bolo couldnt shoot as well as normal and made several driving mistakes that didnt help matters. Glamdring were all on and stayed ahead throughout both games. Ringleader was Dar with the most goals and his defensive action against Bolo (like father like son). Well done glamdring!!!

As of now every team has won games and lost games. (except us but we tied:( ). This is gonna be a really fiercely competitive league!!!

Heh. What class are you in Bolo?

Concerning the question, I was also wondering what -z-'s status as a player was. Has he shown up for a game? I know he popped in to the forum back a few days ago to explain his absence, but he seems to have gone into hiding again.

Der Commisar has overheard rumors of trouble in the black sheep // corset game.

I need to know what's up. Who dares tickle the hammer?

Friday, March 05, 2004 at 10:19:00 PM

Lol Prey! Great animation. Wooot! XD

HammerMan, nothing too injurious, so put the hammer back in the sheath - if you can!

Apparently TankGirl, she of international fame, dropped in mid-game and disturbed the precious sheeplings' concentration, for trifles like having to chat to say 'leeeaaavee!' Apparently she was under one of her incognito name, thus adding to the confusion. High Heels flashing should be forbidden me say! Unless it's mid-game. Or post-game. Or 1 on 1 game. With me and TG.

Talk to Captain BaaaBaaa for more infos.

Ah! TG too bad I was looking for you - would have loved a 4x4 game %)

Friday, March 05, 2004 at 10:31:07 PM

No, no!! Not the hammer!!

Sorry for the trouble sheepsters. I'll take the blame for not keeping my team apprised of the changing game time. Up until last night our games have been starting at 7:45 & I shoulda sent out an email noting the earlier game slot. Mah Baaaaad. TG showed up thinking that the game was to start at the later time & had also changed her nom de guerre. Even confused me for a bit...

In future I will send an email to my team on the day of the game regarding start time.

Hope to keep the Steel Corset free of hammer dents...

Please accept my humblest of apologies.

I would be pissed if someone did what I did in our black sheep // corset tourney game. It was just a nasty combination of errors. I had gotten an email from Sluggy earlier saying to come (what I thought was early) and play. I thought I was entering a warmup scrum. I said hey to everyone and proceeded to play, when I was told to leave I thought someone was joking, then I was told it was 3-3, I concluded that you guys had a balanced game going and didn't want an imbalance.. Someone even said to change at the gamebreak. I left, then after a while I thought your heated game would be over, it was getting close to (what I thought was) starting time for the tourney game, so I re-entered ready to tell you that I needed to warm up too.

The rest, as they say, is history.

I am really sorry to have been at the center of this issue. I feel stupid, and very sorry.

Katherine the humiliated.
