Tally, I didn't get a screenie of our first game, but I think PREY did.

Well we fought valiantly, but lost both games, the second one by a hair!

Here's the screenie of our 2nd match:

screenie removed and placed here

Don't recall the score on the first match, sorry, but it wasn't as close. :(

Prey will have to update you on that.

Edit : oh yeah, as for selection of an MVP, for as much as I would love to nominate JJ, as he played excellently, I'm going to have to go with dj_breaka on this.

One last thing, our matches started early. We were scheduled for 10:30, not 10, but when I jumped on at 10:10 PM they were playing already. I called it and said next one was real, but we still started at 10:15 or so. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bitching, I just wanted to clarify the times, so we don't have confusion next match.

RUBES vs GLAMDRING 4 vs 4 Totals 20 to 18 RUBES

Didn't get any end screen shots. Didn't know what I was doing. First game RUBES ran out to a 9 to 3 lead. DJ had 6 the rest of the RUBES 1's. Then the roof caved in. Glamdring fought back and finished game 1: RUBES 11 to 10.

For game 2: Glamdring jumped out to a 2 nothing lead. It was eventually tied 3 to 3. From there it was a dog fight. Rubes worked it to a 9 to 7 lead and that was soon just a 9 to 8 game finish. Lucked out as the game ended with Glamdring in possession of the ball. Great hard fought games on the Frantic maps. Think Lush might be safer. ;)

Players of the game RUBES: DJ_Breaka (offense). For Glamdring: Dar (defense) Was a tank vacuum cleaner at the goal.

Rookie JJ was impressive both games. Thanks for the nail bitting games!

@host

Savor ur victory against the crippled shell shockers. Next time aza and I will add to the madness

@ shell shockers

Computers really suck right now. Been on and off the phone with tech support for 6 hours. Internet works but REALLY slow. Think I got a bum router. Wont work without the router because I cant change my mac address registration til my isp support gets back to the office tomorrow... Sorry to let u down. Sounds like u two did a great job. Just image if aza or I were there...hehe...

Rooks and jb tell me the total number of goals u guys got between both games. I am supposed to keep stats. Never got around to our strategy email since my computer troubles started.

Me and aza should be there thurs. If so either rooks or JB need to sit.... Any volunteers??

It will be difficult for me to play next Monday, so I'd like to play this Thursday's game.

Lots of lessons learned this round. I was so absorbed in trying to track down AZA that I forgot to lock down the server with a password! Had to kick a few mid-game. Apparently Aza couldn't see my server. Left my IM running which caused horrendous lag occasionally too. Sorry guys, just got frazzled trying to contact people at last mionute. Bolo, could you send your desired password to us and the Clonus captain so I can create a proper server for Thursday? I will have it running by 1800 with my Yahoo IM (james_sorenson) running in case someone can't see it.

Man...a rough start. I'm still twitching violently after that. Gonna have Tally in my nightmares for awhile. Glad to see we are playing Clonus next. Still missing your Mojo, ACA? Heh heh heh heh... :P

Bologet a Mac. ;)

The Clonus Horror found themselves transported to a wicked blue poisonous world filled will killer ovines. While the team attempted to recover from being taken out of their native LUSH habitat and being forced into this poisonous blue wasteland, The Clonus Horror were pursued by a wild pack of sheep the duration of their stay, preventing them from practicing scrum while they awaited the arrival of there opponents. Suffering from the shock of the noxious blue atmosphere and the relentlessness of the sheep attacks,Captain ACA at one point halucinated that team mate Gerbil of Death had disapeared and succumbed to his deviant compulsion to have "relations" with the sheep. For the period of two whole games The Clonus Horror suffered misarably from the onslaught of this wild and wicked pack of sheep. Dispite all the suffering of The Clonus Horror, the opposing team never showed their faces, leaving the clones to wonder whether or not they would show at all. In the end Captain Ass Clone was left weeping in the arms of Baklava and Snipe, raving inanely about some gal named Dolly and failed ovine experimentation... All around a dreadful experience....

TCH, we'll be on top again next game.

BTW, thanks for the close-up shot on the 2nd game there MJ. I can see a peice of lead that's about to tag me. Man, we got blasted!!!

The Horde has felt the first cinching of the Steel Corset.

Final Scores:

TSC: 18

TH: 14

Game 1 was an intense battle with Vash, MM and Sherm finishing with a 1 point lead over Sluggy, TG & MP. Final for game 1 was 10-9. Game 2 found the Corset with a firm handle on the drawstrings, taking a 9-4 win over a gasping Horde.

Beware Rubes, the Corset's only gonna get tighter!

Heh, yeah, I noticed the second column winners last night too. If that pattern keeps up, we'll be in good shape (next 12 of 13 games!) XD ;)

Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 10:24:36 AM

Isn't there supposed to be some sort of pattern on which maps we are playing? You know, 1st 4 are lush, next 4 are Spooky, or rotate each game? I heard some played Spooky, some frantic, and some Lush this round! Is it just whatever the team agrees on?

A comment on this "pool of players" concept. I would consider it ONLY for PERMANENT replacements! Example: if "James Bomb" suddenly got called to field duty for the next 2 months, then Bolo could recruit "Dark Angel" as a replacement. James Bomb is then done with the tourney, and Dark Angel will not be a replacement for anyone else. I don't want captains padding their teams to a larger size than other teams, or having substitutes bouncing between teams (loyalty issues). Just my $0.02.

The game is at its best in league like that.

@JamesBomb - Our Creator hath designated that first 5 games are to be played on the Spooky maps, the next 4 games on the Lush maps, and the last 5 games on the Frantic maps. Thus, in His infinite wisdom, He hath surrounded said games in colored boxes: Blue, Green and Red respectively at the top of this thread. Take a look!

@PREY- yes, you're right. I forgot about Tally's comment about any map being OK. No worries.

Though I'm opting for a Spooky or Lush for next game myself.

PS- FYI, both Black Sheep vs. Clonus Horror and Horde vs. Steel Corset were played on Spooky maps.

I translated Tally's words as - we follow the color code for worlds established on the schedule (the first 3rd of the schedule is coded blue for spooky). That's why The Clonus Horror and the Black Sheep played spooky last night.

From what I understand we should all be playing the blue maps until 3/11/04, when we will start the LUSH maps. Then on 3/25/04 we'll start the red maps. Does this sound correct?

-ACA

Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 4:31:38 PM

@PREY and OM, I took the "per world" to refer to the particular third world (hehe) the season is divided into: Spooky, then Lush then Frantic.

Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 4:41:03 PM

Sorry for the garble code.

ACA is the correct one.

All Thursday games will - and till 3.11 should - be on the blues.

Week one blunders, even I forgot.

Yeah guys, you're right. Now that I look at it closer and think about it logically, keeping it where all teams play on set worlds is really the only way to ensure no-one gets too much time on one world and not enough on others.

My bad. Well, no going back now. We'll just correct our trajectory from here on out.

Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 4:44:33 PM

Along with Tal's handy dandy color coding of the maps we are to use , he also indicates the games indented (the later two) should start at 7:30-7:45 pst.

Hopefully after the first games end.

This has a meaningful impact on some of the players ability to play and we should try to abide by that.

Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 6:10:21 PM

We have to stay on spooky maps?

Based on previous experience on such maps... Im not gonna like the first third of this season

Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 7:15:46 PM

SPOOKY MAP

In the old days FoulPlay did a modded Spooky Map, involving a Frantic sky and no fog. The land is lush. A mix between lush/frantic/spooky.

This makes the Spooky maps not only MUCH easier too play, but also truly enjoyable!

If you're interested I could email you the files. I have to look what it involves, but I swear you'll like it.

The BLUE maps have no cover. No one can make a moderate run for the goal and live. Passing is most required. If the chasers do blast away all in front. The spawns are such, that you are in no position to stop the opponent. These maps show the least skill and represent more a random last to have the ball within feet of the goal wins. Can you say camping.... At least one of the maps has ledges. The big crater one is just a shoot fest. Yip!

If we can stay away from the big bowl of death: "Pituitary Plateau" maybe we can survive.

Summary:

BLUE: Campers and BattleModer players.

GREEN: Agile offense players.

RED: Agile Defender and quick gun players

Hope we all drafted with this in mind. BoooHaHa!

Oops...was I supposed to be paying attention to colors? Crap, the Spooky Levels are the ones I mixed and matched so that I had a personal selection of maps for my server. Guess I better throw the originals back in. Man...I hate Spooky, tired of Lush, and I'll be missing the last two Frantic Levels because of...

OH CRAP!

Bolo! I can't make the last two games! I'll be in FT Lewis for demobilization! Tally, can Bolo get a permanent replacement for the last couple games? Otherwise, he risks being shorthanded on the last games if any of the 3 have an unexpected issue. Damn, and I really shine in the Frantic levels, too.

- BombJames Bomb

Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 11:24:15 PM

When we get 8 replacements (8 minimum), we can have another draft round. As I said above, when you recruit for, you recruit for the league only.

Egie: the sooner we get 8 players who want to get in, the sooner everyone gets a new teammate.

Sounds like JB can start a new list :).

Ps. No flaking monkeys. If bozo the clown wants to join the league, I will drop the presidential veto.

Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 11:49:03 PM

Flaking monkey? Is that for me? You might wake up with a 120mm smoothbore pressed to your face, Tal! :P

All I'm suggesting is that if there are a few (even less than 8) people wanting to join in late, and a captain permanently loses a "flaking monkey," then it should be possible for a permanent replacement. I take it your concern is if the captain decides to fire a newb as soon as he sees someone skillful in the pool, no? A valid concern. However, since this game is going to run a little too long for me to dodge Uncle Sam all the way through, there needs to be some sort of system in place for Bolo to recover from my permanent absence. It's going to be hard for me to show my face around here if Bolo loses because he's undermanned on the last week or two. Call me a whining flaking monkey ;) , but I think there should be some sort of an option for him.

Hmmm, I've played with Bozo and he ain't half bad! XD

I agree with PREY on his Spooky points, mostly. If at all possible, I will request that the "bowl" level not get played. That level sucks quite frankly. Kinda like getting dropped into a gladiator arena. Ge0rge and I have already agreed NOT to play this level if it should come up.

@JB - sucks that you won't be able to finish the competitions. As for replacements, I don't think any cap would boot one of his players intentionally to get him/her replaced. That would be pretty stupid since news of it would get around kinda fast, no?

EXCLUSIVE NEWS RELEASE: THE ORIGIN OF THE BLACK SHEEP

From Reuters, Pituary Plateau.

This picture show beyond the shadow of a doubt that the Black Sheeps have been sent by the Alien Mind Control© to infiltrate PsychoScrum. Their prowesses on the battlefield has many thinking they are cybernetic creatures. Are they? More information in tomorrow's paper!

------

On another note (e.g.more rants):

Real opponents will meet the Sheepling herd on any / every maps!

True, the Bowl Plateau has no hiding ground for you to cower behind.,,

Spooky and Frantic are the Black Sheeps' natural pastures. Expect to be sheared!

Lush is the Sheep's Nirvana. We go the re when we die. There await herds of gorgeous lady sheeps, all groomed to celebrate the victorius PsychoScrum warriors...

Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at 5:00:31 AM

Np JB u said that there would be issues in the latter part of the season. Ill get a replacement if that is what is decided. If aza, rooks and I can guaruntee attendence then we will play and there will be no need for a replacement...

Clonus horrors I vote we play any two levels that are not the goal bowl. That is spawning luck arena.

Did -z- show up for the game??? Is he completely MIA? Just wondering...

Of all the blue maps, I like the bowl the best... It's kinda funny to watch the crowd from afar on that map... It's like a roving pile of dead and dying tanks slowly making it's way to the goal... Think of it as a test of endurance...

Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at 2:42:44 PM

@ Bolo, let's draw straws to find which maps we play since we differ on the choice.

@ Everyone

Another thought too - How are we going to handle rotating between two different maps if we host ourselves? Per Tally's instruction, I think we're technically supposed to play Game 1 annd Game 2 on 2 different maps within the color theme. When I've hosted, the same map will appear twice in a row instead of automatically rotating.... I believe this was the case with Monday's matches as well (the same map played twice).

Anyone have thoughts/ solutions?

Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at 2:54:24 PM
OM

Rotating maps can be done easily with a dedicated server, if you're able to host that way. Go to the Dedicated server page HERE for instructions on how for both Mac and PC.

BTW, for any Mac users, have you figured out a way to run a dedicated server & the game on one machine, without having 2 copies of ThinkTanks installed? There may not be a way, but I was just curious.

OM

Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at 3:04:22 PM

Eliminating maps due to personal preference is cheesy.

Just play I say.

Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at 3:07:01 PM

@ OM: I do it all the time. The easiest solution is to get your client running before you start the dedicated server in the unix shell. Just use CMD-Return to get a window-view of the client and start the Terminal to get the server going (using the same executable as the client). You'll have two iterations of ThinkTanks, but they will run off the same executable and will share the license.

However, if you intend to run the server on one computer, and the client on the other, I believe you're out of luck. Haven't tried this, though.

Gee...the battle-mode champs seem to like the bowel. What a surprise. ;) I don't like the level, but I won't be choosey on where I'll kick ACA's cloned a$$! XD

Heh, JB, thanks for that. It never occurred to me to launch TT normally FIRST and then run the dedicated server from the Terminal. I was always doing it the other way around and it wouldn't let me launch a game (client), so I just made a duped copy of TT.

Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at 8:31:32 PM
OM

Hey James Bomb- Since you answered my last query so deftly, maybe you can help me with something else? XD

After starting up the dedicated server in the Terminal, how do you shut it down? I'm not a *nix geek so I don't know what commands to enter, and I've tried everything I could think of but only get syntax errors. What I've done is to just quit out of the Terminal, which, though as I say I don't know Unix well, I know that's an ungraceful, and possibly even bad way to do it. So, what's the proper command/method?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
