Anyone paying attention to this bullsh%t? Check this out:

A group of far-right Bush allies released an ugly and outrageous ad which claims that John Kerry faked his injuries, betrayed his troops, and "dishonored his country" in Vietnam. The ad features people who say "I served with John Kerry" (although they didn't) and who make numerous provably false accusations about Kerry's war record. It's one of the most vile tactics seen yet in Bush's ferociously negative campaign.

The "Swift Boat" ad is so far beyond the pale that even Senator John McCain, a Bush supporter, spoke out about it, calling it "dishonest and dishonorable." Yet despite Senator McCain's request that President Bush "specifically condemn" the ad, Bush refuses to say anything about it.

It's clear that the ad continues the tradition of Bush campaign dirty tricks. In a recent interview, Senator McCain noted that the ad "was the same kind of deal that was pulled on me" in 2000. McCain was referring to a vicious smear campaign -- which included race-baiting allegations that he had a black child our of wedlock -- run by close Bush allies in 2000. In fact, the same firm that ran some of the anti-McCain ads in 2000 produced the "Swift Boat" ad. And although the group claims to be independent of the Republican party, the group's funding mostly comes from a longtime Bush supporter who gave over $20,000 to his campaigns for Texas governor. Further, today it was announced that one of the subjects in the ad is a member of the Bush-Cheney campaign's veterans steering committee.

The "Swift Boat" campaign is a classical political hit job. But even before the ad went on the air, the Washington Post ran a piece discussing how President Bush is running the most negative presidential campaign in U.S. History. In an article titled "From Bush, Unprecedented Negativity," the Post quotes an expert who says that "there is more attack now on the Bush side against Kerry than you've historically had in the general-election period against either candidate."

Discussing the "Swift Boat" ad, Senator John McCain said, "I deplore this kind of politics." Nebraska Governor Mike Johanns (R) called the ad "trash" and even Pat Buchanan said "not a single charge is substantiated... I think the ad is wrong." But George Bush won't condemn it.

Jim Rassman, a Republican veteran who served under Kerry, recently wrote an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal. He told the story of how Kerry saved his life. And he concluded with these words on the "Swift Boat" veterans: "[W]hen the noise and fog of their distortions and lies have cleared, a man who volunteered to serve his country, a man who showed up for duty when his country called, a man to whom the United States Navy awarded a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts, will stand tall and proud. Ultimately, the American people will judge these Swift Boat Veterans for Bush and their accusations. Americans are tired of smear campaigns against those who volunteered to wear the uniform.

Swift Boat Veterans for Bush should hang their heads in shame.

From the boston globe:
" A year and a half ago, Robert Sarra was a Marine sergeant in Iraq, where, he says, he once fired his M-16 at a black-cloaked old woman who failed to stop when she was told. Instead of a suicide bomb, the bundle she carried to her death held only bread, tea, and a white flag.

From that day in a tiny town called Ash Shatra, Sarra says, he journeyed through dark territory - heavy drinking, violent outbursts, therapy - and finally from his temporary job in Chicago to the Republican National Convention this week. It is in New York that he embraced his new role - peace activist. "I became opposed to the war when I saw we had no point in what was going on over there," said Sarra, 32, who spent nine years in the Marines and left in April. "We are all trying to make sure that the next time the US goes to war, it's for a good reason."

Goddam pansy, shirking his patriotic duty to kill iraqis for what a bunch of saudis living in afghanistan did to us. I don't care if there never were any WMDs, and no links to al qaeda, I don't care if GW Bush brought a plan of attacking iraq into the whitehouse far ahead of 9/11...what really, really matters is that the world is a better place WHEN WE ARE KILLING ARABS -- any arab will do.

DIE GRANNY FATIMA, DIE!!!! REMEMBER THE WTC!!!

Many of you are focusing on a single-issue to guide you choice in this presidential decision

"It's been an extremely disappointing period for our economic well-being, " said Thomas Mann, a senior fellow at the nonpartisan Brookings Institution in Washington. "On balance, President Bush's policies have done more harm than good."

·There are currently 1.1 million fewer jobs than in January 2001, placing Bush on track to be the first president since the Great Depression to end his term with a net job loss.

·Inflation-adjusted median household income has fallen by $1,535, or 3. 4 percent, during the past three years to $43,318, according to Census figures released last week.

·Average hourly earnings rose by 1.9 percent during the past 12 months, according to the Labor Department. Consumer prices, however, have climbed by about 3 percent.

·Home ownership is up thanks mainly to low interest rates. But easy credit has also led to record consumer debt ($2.038 trillion) and record personal bankruptcy filings (1.7 million in 2003).

·The number of Americans living in poverty increased by 1.3 million last year, according to Census figures. The rate of child poverty climbed to 17.6 percent, while nearly a quarter of all African Americans are now below the poverty line.

·Earnings by women declined last year for the first time since 1995, falling 0.6 percent to an average $30,724 annually. Women now earn 76 cents for every dollar earned by men, a penny less than in 2002.

·The number of Americans lacking health insurance increased to a record 45 million last year from 43.6 million in 2002.

·The White House is projecting a record budget deficit this year of $445 billion. When Bush took office, the federal budget had been balanced for three straight years and was running a surplus of $236 billion - the largest in U.S. History.

Stings, doesnt it? In case you dont like thinking about how you and your fellow country men are doing worse than they were four years ago, while the top 5% are doing better, Ill give you an out: CODE RED! CODE RED!.BE VERY AFRAIDTERRORIST ARE GOING TO BLOW UP YOUR GRANNY!
Ahback to your comfy single issue.

But john kerry flip flops...john kerflop flips his....er...he....er....and other useful cliches....

Think, where have you heard the words that are coming out of your mouths...?

You are about to vote for a man who is bankrupting this country, who has no regard for your welfare, who instigated a war with the wrong country and let the real scoundrel run free, who let enron decide our national energy policy, who hypocritically calls his oponent a liar while he himself can't own up to his past, who has attacked your civil liberties, who champions his utter lack of curiosity and sense of infallibility as strengths, who wants to irreversibly change the constitution of our country to discriminate against gays...because of your one, single issue?

Is that all you can keep in your head at one time? Step away from your partisan prejudice and look at this man. You have four years to consider: has he done a decent job?

Yes, after twenty-plus years in the senate, kerry has taken positions that have countered earlier positions...find me a senator who hasn't. Now, move the f*ck on...

Friday, September 03, 2004 at 4:23:29 AM

So stinky - you about ready to switch?

(j/k)

Seriously - I'm assuming you have somehow heard of the GOP's platform (trying to avoid mentioning the "B" word so my screen doesn't melt).

What do you think the Kerry camp will come up with? Do you think they purposely waitied on the RNC to come and go before planking their platform - or do you really think they are going to continue to run as "the anti-Bush" (which incidentally is flying like a lead kite)?

One thing - you're not crazy. Just brainwashed by the media. You don't realize it bro - but you've bought in.

I'm surprised you haven't noticed by now that any argument I take is supported by generally presumptive fact...by this I mean public record, confirmed quotes, etc. I can see where you are taking some of your stats above from a resource somewhere - my point here is the resources are where the problem starts, as the Brookings Institution is the Democratic equivalent of the EIB network. A great many of the other resources out there are left or right tilted. I think that the whole amalgamation as a whole - served up to everyone 24/7/365 - from Moore's movies to Fox news - are all ingredients in the mixture that is being served up through the feeding tubes.

The thing that really sucks though is you've bought in...and that's too bad. As you have pointed out - there are a whole shitload of Republicans that have bought the party line as well. While I consider myself a right leaning independent, there are some GOP issues that I support, because I believe in them - so I guess you could say that I've bought in as well...so I guess at the end of the day you could easily say the same of me.

It's kinda funny though if you think about it - as a general observation, a great deal of the Democrats seem really angry and frustrated...maybe because they are pissed at Bush, realize the futility of their cause, or are pissed at Howard Dean for forcing them to buy the first car - er I mean candidate - they could find and now have buyer's remorse. Most of the Republican's I see (and yes I have had these same types of discussions on various issues) seem to be more laid back and contemplative. Maybe it's confidence, maybe they think that if Kerry doesn win he can't be any worse than Clinton - they've been to Hell and back so nothing scares 'em. Maybe they think "put whomever the hell you want to in office - we'll figure something out"....dunno.

@ JB

LOL - I'll bet his neighbors think he's beating the shit out of someone when he responds to these posts......

Chief, dude, why did you post that ?

Friday, September 03, 2004 at 6:19:20 AM

Chief: I agreed with one of your paragraphs...but that's about it...which is an improvement, I suppose. First of all, don't condescend to tell me I've bought in to the media...as if the media were monolithic. I'm a smart enough guy with an extensive enough education (as I mentioned, I concentrated on critical theory in college) to be a skeptical consumer of media. You, after all, are the guy who is still clinging to the long ago debunked notion that Iraq had WMD and a link to al qaeda -- congratulations considering that 67% of americans no longer belief this along with 100% of the rest of the world. Believing in something unsupported by facts, nay, shown by established facts to be untrue is called "faith." for you, this has become a bit of a religion.

And don't toss "public record" in my face...good god! What papers do you read, what news do listen to and watch? There is a virtual litany of names of well known, trustworthy people, some of whom have served this administration, who have spoken out against the follies, arrogance, idiocy of this administration. Leagues of scientists, nobel prize winners, former generals and chiefs of staff, to name a few others...former secretary of the tresurary paul o'neil comes to mind. You can't claim partisanship with him. Of course, like any zealot, you can cling to your faith, and attempt to deflect the mounting evidence by screaming partisanship, or liberal control of the media.

This liberal media thing, by the way is a construct of the right. Pulitzer prize winner, and distinquished professor ben bagdikian, in a book called "media monopoly" has elequently dispatched that notion about 15 years ago. Most media is owned by large conglomerates which have expansive interests in other industries...the most obvious example is NBC, which by now everyone knows, is owned by GE...which, among other things, is a large defense contractor....which, of course, has benefitted greatly by a pro-war president...do I need to connect the dots for you here?

You mention "arguing by taking the point of presumptive fact." my first question to you is: who is doing the presuming?
my next question is: where are your facts....because in the next breathe, you fly about willy-nilly from one insinuation, to the next allegation. Lets see your facts. You made an allegation about the brookings institute...is your allegation in itself enough for you to discredit it? Is it obviously liberal because it doesn't tell you what you want to hear?

Lets see some facts.

And bush platform? I've had about four years of it...its no mystery to me.

And surviving 8 years of clinton is like surviving hell? In what way? Clinton presided over the most economically successful presidency of all time. Are your friends all puritans? Were their souls horribly vexed because billy got a blow job? Foul hypocrits. I guess its ok, however, for a president to blow the living shit out of innocent people, so long as that president wears his religion on his sleeve. And, of course, his religion is republicanism....just like yours.

Friday, September 03, 2004 at 6:29:45 AM

Are you honestly calling into question the facts I posted above, ascribed to the brookings institute? Christ, these facts are everywhere...they're "presumptive" even "putative."

Friday, September 03, 2004 at 6:34:39 AM

Deny any of this:

You are about to vote for a man who is bankrupting this country, who has no regard for your welfare, who instigated a war with the wrong country and let the real scoundrel run free, who let enron decide our national energy policy, who hypocritically calls his oponent a liar while he himself can't own up to his past, who has attacked your civil liberties, who champions his utter lack of curiosity and sense of infallibility as strengths, who wants to irreversibly change the constitution of our country to discriminate against gays

Give it a shot...

Friday, September 03, 2004 at 6:37:24 AM

Okay - I'll attempt to hit these all at once - don't have a lot of time though.....really need to get some work done.

Here's the president of the Brookings Institution - don't know if you'll see the ad, but when I clicked the link there is a big ass banner ad - "Expose the Deception - 911review.org". Sounds objective to me - if I were liberal. Notice that Mr. Strobe Talbott was a prominent member of the CLinton Administration.

Long debunked myth that Iraq never had any WMD - click here and here . Although SH was rumored to have used them against Iran, it was never confirmed exactly who let them fly. Best UN guesstimate was 100-200M infantry killed however.

Liberal media - click here (I know not a really good one) and here . One note of logic I'm really surprised no one has picked up on - wonder why no one's pissed at Fox News Channel but no other network? I don't have time to lead the logic path tour but it's well lit.

Regarding this:

Inflation-adjusted median household income has fallen by $1,535, or 3. 4 percent, during the past three years to $43,318, according to Census figures released last week.

The last Census was in 2000.

Regarding this:

Deny any of this:

You are about to vote for a man who is bankrupting this country, who has no regard for your welfare, who instigated a war with the wrong country and let the real scoundrel run free, who let enron decide our national energy policy, who hypocritically calls his oponent a liar while he himself can't own up to his past, who has attacked your civil liberties, who champions his utter lack of curiosity and sense of infallibility as strengths, who wants to irreversibly change the constitution of our country to discriminate against gays

Give it a shot...

This is opinion and I can just as easily pose an opoosite opinion. The only thing that really glares out to me is the "hypocritically calls his opponent a liar" part - I Googled it and came up with zilch. However, I did see with my own eyes where Edwards called both Bush and Sen. Miller a lier last night. I went back and listened to Miller's speech and everything he was talking about was based on Kerry's votes. I defy anyone to show where Kerry didn't do anything Miller said he did.

Am curious what part you agreed with.

Might have to drop off depending on what Frances does.

I did manage to find this: The government agency says the poverty rate rose from 12.1 percent of the population, or 34.5 million, in 2002, to 12.5 percent, or 35.8 million last year. The poverty rate for children under the age of 18 also increased from 16.7 percent, or 12.1 million in 2002, to 17.6 percent in 2003, or 12.9 million.

Cheney has refused, though the White House acknowledged that Enron representatives met six times with Cheney or his aides on energy issues last year."

Lonewolf knows who I am...ask him. As does Silbarcalis and MOE.

That being said, it appears that we are rapidly arriving at the same opinion of one another. Talk about closed minded - I simply cited the same types of sources you did. At the end of the day perception is 99% of one's reality anyway.

Again - personal attacks - right out of the liberal playbook. Please take note that I never denied being conservative - as my answers a few posts ago will point out - it's just that it appears as though you consider anything right of you an Enron executive. Guess it's the same way over here though.

I hate it - really thought we could have a discussion without someone getting bent out of shape. :(

Chief, yeah come into our republican line we'd be glad to have you.

Stink you make a good school employee one of the public schools main objectives is to raise the next generation of liberals. Took me about 10 years to deprogram myself.

Last election year, 4yrs ago I had school confernces for my 5 th grader here is what was on his history classes chalk board

Republican..... Favor the rich
don't care about the enviroment
(the list went on)

Democrat.... Favor the working class
conserned for the enviroment
ect.

You said this election isn't about one issue will for me it is
it all comes down to the democrat and republican views

I always vote republican

People's ideas are shaped by their experences, I grew up on on dairy farm and milked cows for 30 yeas of my life working form 5am to 9pm most every day, go to church most every Sunday, so here is what I believe

I believe in the power of the individual to help himself, govenmemt help only gets one dependent on that help

I believe God created all men equal but after the doc slaps you on the butt its up to you from there.

.. Wealth is made by hard work not by luck and I tip my hat to the rich. If you want to get more enconomic parity then do it by bringing the poor up the scale not by bringing the rich down.

... Taxes are my money not the governments

...only a strong military will get the job done

... We are to take care of Gods creation but he gave it to us to use

... And I cant spell good

So thats how I see things shaped by my 42 years of living and that is more republican than dem.
so thats how I vote

T raider

Friday, September 03, 2004 at 12:34:24 PM

You goons better vote. LOL.

I have only two things to say on this matter. Miller's speech the other night was total BS. Kerry voted against the ridiculous budgets allocated for those flying machines and bombs.

Secondly, my cat's breath smells like cat food.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

Friday, September 03, 2004 at 12:45:02 PM

How about raising up a smart intelligent military that can actually get the job done?
How about lifting all of the crap that has gone on in this country that seeks to subjugate any people that it can for the sake of its own well-being, then I'll buy your bootstrap theory?
How about God creating all people equal as opposed to just white men as 1700 years of biblical interpretation would rather have it?
How about we pay whatever it takes as long as people in the inner city get the same education as the people in the affluent suburbs?
How about a Republican actually come up with a good idea intended for the good of all people rather than sucking up resources like a hoover and learning how to build up what we have been given rather than tear it down?
How about we find a leader that can be spiritual without sounding like a fanatic?
How about a leader who has some humility and knows what its like to stand in a real fire rather than an idealogical one?
How about a leader who can actually speak their mind and not sound like an idiot or have to read someone else's speech?

I will vote republican when any minority with a "C" average is elected president, so until the second coming, this 'Skin votes for those who are actually concerned for social well-being.

I'm with you, stink. How about a little predestination vs free will? XD

@JJ - The "angry eyes" ref was from Toy Story when Mrs. Potato Head is packing Mr. Potato Head for his trip and she says like, "I'm packing your angry eyes, just in case."

I'm lost as to the Irish. Can you fill me in?

Open-mindedly,

Chief - they are called the San Patricos by Mexicans and there is a plaque in their honor on a church in Mexico City. The history is conflicted depending on who is telling the story, here is a weblink that has some better insights than I. San Patricios Interesting history. And another if you like. deserters or unsung heroes

Heh, anybody catch the reports about how Schwarzenegger's speech at the RNC is being heavily disputed by historians. I know it makes no difference, but apparently the "history" Arnold related about seeing communism, socialism, occupation and other stuff when he was a kid in Austria was total bunk. Just fabricated to make the speech sound good. Of course, his spokespeople have made up some rather implausible excuses.

Again, it makes no difference in the long run, but it's funny reading anyway.

@ Memphis

Thanks - very interesting.

Well, I've cooled down a bit...yes rabban, I switched to my angry eyes...i don't like being condescended too, or told I'm brainwashed. Especially when evidence of my skepticism is obvious and everywhere. Especially when the person accusing me is so disingenuous. Said everything I mentioned was opinion, and when I backed it up, tried to marginalize the info again. Disingenuous. Face it chief, my sources kicked your sources asses!

And then more banalities and cliches. Just like having a discussion on religion. Just check higher level thinking at the door. Banalities and cliches do quite nicely in this forum.

T raider wades in with some home spun account of the simple life and how it goes hand in hand with the down to earth values of the republican party....funny t raider, I also spent the first 20 years of my life on a dairy farm...i learned the opposite lesson. I learned the negative value of work. My parents were the hardest people I've ever known, but they lost their farm in the reagan 80's despite having never missed a payment. Recession and land devaluation caused the bank to foreclose on the farm, and many of the farms of my friends. My parents hard work made alot of people rich (the creamery owners, feed companies, utility companies, etc) but they earned almost nothing. Now my pops sells real estate...he works very little and grosses 30 thousand dollars a month. He's laughing his ass off.

There is a very funny phenomena I've just been thinking about...of all the republicans that I've met or know, I've noticed one unwavering tendency. The wealthier ones are typically pretty intelligent people -- even highly intelligent. Speaking with them about political matters, I of course disagree, but I respect their positions. It make sense that they would align themselves with the republican economic values....but when I speak to republicans from working class, or low middle class, I'm never impressed with their intellect. They seem wholly concerned with cultural issues, cling to banalities, to "putative" facts, run with spin, wrap themselves in the flag, debate by cliche.

T raider, the timing of your mentioning your experience with your fifth grader is uncanny. Yesturday my wife, a fifth grade teacher with the Dept. Of Defense, told me how she receieved the 5th grade curriculum on the political parties. Its said almost verbatim what you mentioned above! That's the DoDs understanding of the political parties...and in a nut-shell, it is accurate. Of course, it seems so callous that it doesn't sound very appetizing, does it? Well, wrap yourself back in the flag and comfort yourself that yours is the party of freedom.

Which is your favorite?

Which part of

Democrat.... Favor the working class
conserned for the enviroment
ect.

Bothers you so much?

Btw, hey T Raider. Don't pay taxes, keep your money. Take your kid outa that public school, and on your way, stay off the road that my tax dollars pay for. Don't drink that milk my tax dollars subsidize. Don't complain about that guy that robs your house while you're gone; the cops work for us, not for you. When I come by and throw a can of gas on the fire that is your domicile, don't wonder why the firemen aren't coming. {I'm not proofreading this, btw}. Don't ask anybody why the canadians are coming down from yonder and burning down the white house again.

... We are to take care of Gods creation but he gave it to us to use

Pick one. No buts. Are you to be a nature-raping, leave-nothing-to-your-grandkids republican, or the "shephard" of nature, god's gift to us. When you walk in to that hospital my tax dollars paid for couging up blood from your black lung caused from your unregulated - ITS GOOD FOR AMERICA! - coal burning power plant and oil refinery, don't hold your last breath waiting for my doctor to come save you. Instead of taking that 5 spot out of your pocket and paying your taxes, maybe you'll get to spend it on your aircast for that twisted ankle you got from the broken sidewalk the city didn't have the money to fix.
It's a metaphor! Do you know what a metaphor means!

Etc. Etc. Etc. Your selfishness, the party's selfishness, is limitless.

Social contract calling, please pick up the phone. We all don't live on farms anymore. I have never touched a cows nipples.
.
[ps]Chief, no, you don't get it.

Ps deuce. There's a difference between discrediting someone's information and discrediting their sources. Often the latter appears in lieu of the former when the former proves difficult to challenge. If anyone feels the impulse to knee-jerk ridicule a source, stop and think about what you're reading first.

Friday, September 03, 2004 at 10:03:33 PM

Stink thanks for keeping it civil , even though you think I'm some poor stupid dipshit, at least im happy.

Your parents probabley lost their farm to the high interst rates and being over leveraged, I dont think Reagen had anything to do with that. His tax credits (inheritance, income and investment tax) saved alot of farms.

Your dad shows the power of the individaul I was talking about

@ memphis

It seems you have listed a bunch of excusses for failure try to see them as challanges to your success. Addittude is free, you can either pick a good one and be happy or a bad one and be bitter.

T raider
