@ sheena, You have been a productive member of the thread and PTT. I value your involvement. I appreciate everyones opinion. I feel good that we have freedom of speech and you can share your opinionB)
I agree with you LGM, getting angry wont solve anything. You cant force people to leave. But most people have common sense. There should have been a plan before the hurricane struck to get the homeless people outta there. I hope there will not be anymore deaths. :[

Me too, although I hope there won't be any more deaths, not "I hope there to be anymore deaths".
EDIT: No point in flaming over Bush's mistakes, no matter how obvious or horribly flawed they may be. What's done has been done, and I'm just as pissed off as some of you are about having to pay for Bush's mistakes, but there's just no point in crying over spilled milk. We can't turn back time, but we can help the victims. Glad you understand. XD

Ok... Lets agree this. (please bear with me, I am about to some up LGM's post). Yes, some people did have the OPTION to evac, but it would have been harder for some to do so than others. People that where poorer stayed behind, expecting others to help them. When no one came, they just hunkered down and tried to wait out the storm. It is no ones fault that this happened. We just weren't prepared. Also, everyone is entitled ot their opinions. Sheena, who has seen upclose what can happen, has hers, and people who listen to others, have thiers... Ok, how was that?
Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

Louisiana disaster plan, pg 13, para 5 , dated 01/00
'The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating'...

Well, we all have different opinions and that is what makes this country great. I voted for Mr. Ralph Nader in 2000. I voted for Bush in 2004. I am not connected to any political party, why should I?
We all need to do the best we can to help these folks. I am offering my home to a family that needs it. I will be sending more cash as well. Stop the bickering. I dont like to see you all fighting like this as I really enjoy this community. Let's post some positive thoughts from here on out... Like my dad always said you get further along with honey than you do with vinegar!! XD
^^ ouch. Looks like a recipe for disaster, especially when
School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating'...
Didn't seem to be very common. More capacity was needed, in my opinion, and were organizations aware that the option quoted was available?
@Cloud- in my previous post I mentioned that I didn't mean everyone was bashing. I specificially thought of you and the tone of your prose. You were quite appropriate.

What were there maybe 200 buses? How many people fit on a bus 50-60? So an additional 10,000-12,000 could have possibly gotten out of harms way. Hmm, that seems adequate. It sure seems like LA could have taken care of this by themselves. That is with the exception of the few hundred thousand people still stuck there. No need for a Federalized plan at all. Mularkey.
Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.
Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.
No bashing sympathy or restraint here. Anyone who looks at that situation and chooses to focus blame on those who are suffering needs a firm whack on the head, in my not so humble opinion. Get your goddamn religion, bigotry and ignorance in check.
WHY THE POOR STAYED BEHIND
Living Paycheck to Paycheck Made Leaving Impossible

NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 3 -- To those who wonder why so many stayed behind when push came to water's mighty shove here, those who were trapped have a simple explanation: Their nickels and dimes and dollar bills simply didn't add up to stage a quick evacuation mission.

I just pray for the new orleans people to get out of harms way. I have been in a hurricane actually floyed. It was awful. I would get outta there if I were you. Currently Winds at 145 and expect to grow to 150-165 mph. There is a chance that it would weaken to 135mph storm but it is unlikely. I just wanted to pray that nobody would get hurt and not much damage. Good luck :S Some of my family is in New orleans. We worry about them. All are leaving but they have very expensive homes, and they may be destroyed if there is a direct hit. Good luck.
