I received 2 spams in the last days for my PTT address (Hugobrain at shaw.ca).

One was from a 'WildWhiskers' about joining Yahoo Messenger, and the other just now from 'Rob Ireson' (Subject Line: Get my Photos?) to join Ringo.com, a photo hosting site. Never heard of those guys yet they had some validity in them which *could* make one think they are PTTers.

Just curious if I'm the only victim of these, or if I have other fellow spam martyrs.

Is PTT now spidered? Is this doomsday already?

Samething has been happening to me, I have recieved like 10 from ppl that accept to join my messanger, but I never sent any invites out, also wildwhiskers is ok he is a known player. That is his alias name he use's. He is in UF. If it was really from him that is.

Hey Chronicle, yes I remember you but not WildWhiskers! I wouldn't then consider you spam - just another TTer inviting me.

So far my PTT address has been relitively spam free (as in unsollicited bulk emails).

I'm seeing a slow increase in the amount of spam I'm receiving as well. Some of it is from Yahoo, but there are some others sneaking in as well. It may be spider related, but I've used that for another forum and some other things as well, so its hard to tell.

@ Hugo: I was in a TBM server with you and so was a guy named WildWhiskers, you were under the name "Hugobaraaaainz" or somethng like that.

I don't get spam emails, but there ain't much other emails neither. Hehe. Sometimes there comes something from a site I have registered by using that email address.

I think what I did was now that I'm back to work and I added yahoo messanger to this comp, I some how took my email list and sent them out for invitation to join my friends list so it was something I did. But it's not like there was any body I didn't want to have it. Some of the names are one's I don't reconize but I am slowly learning who they are. Thats how I figured out it was my email list that went out. It also somehow messed up my stealth settings also. Works sometimes and not other times. So it was me who messed up.

Ditto. I use gmail and I get no spam messages in my inbox and it blocks about 10 spam emails a day.

Have you ever looked at the "Spam Recipes" near the top of the spam page in gmail?

Spammers use bots that can send their advertisements to everyone in your address books. Is use my tt email ONLY for tt people and I get spam from fellow TTers that I DO talk to via email and there are all kinds of other TTers I dont socialize with in the recipient list. They dont know they sent it because I always check the message headers if I have doubt. I know for a FACT that I remember getting stuff from napalm, dash, ACA along with others and they wont spam me cause they are IT gurus

Also these free email accounts can give out info and some of their spam blockers can be circumvented. Check their privacy policy. You might have to hire GQ to decipher all their legal BS to laymans terms. Actually GQ did you get the email I sent a week or so ago? If not lonewolf is holding out on ya. Good scrum stuff.

In addition, I get stuff from people and in the recipient list I see all kinds of derivatives of my email id. Spammers have tools that test every combination of valid characters for a valid email and then spam them ALL.

Dont post your email on websites if at all possible. In forum windows use killemall(nospace)98 on Y! Or something bots will skip. They test for '@', 'at', yahoo, etc

^^ So you have an imposter. He was in Dash Bash, you can probably get his IP. And this would explain WildWhiskers too, he saw the imposter on TT and thought it was you and decided to email you.
