Forums Index >> Armies >> Army Tips for recruiting & maintaining your clan!

Page : <1> :

Hey folks,

I guess you all have noticed that there are a lot of armies popping out each day/week/month (maybe each hour :)). But do you notive how few people they get? Or how many people they have that aren't worth to be in their clan. That is the main reason why I ve posted all my tips that I have used in the past.

1. Don't ever post a thread like "[clan-name] needs new members" or anything likewise
This is the dumbest thing you can do to get members, you have to find your (new) members on the fields and not in the chats or on PTT. Ofcours you have to talk to them for that you can use chat or a forum like PTT.

2. When entering a server don't ask "Does anyone want to join my army?
I did that in the past, and believe me it doesn't work. The only people that reply on that are those you don't need, like chatters (who can only chat). Instead play some games, and if you see someone your interested in and you think he might want to join. Then ask him, while crossing your fingers, or when he says something like "I haven't got the time" try to convince him.

3. How to see wether it is a good player for your army or not.
This is pretty hard, certainly when the person in question wants to be in your army (he ll act nicer then he is). So what can you do? Simple, take your time and follow him see how he plays (Does he have the skill you want?) or how he talks with others (Is he a nice guy?) and does he gets out of his mind easily (Does he overreact a lot?). If you did that and everything turned out positive, then that is the guy you want. Please notice that sometimes the person has everything positive, but he just doesn't show up in wars (you can not/hardly predict that). If he doesn't then he is not worth to be in your army, so kick.

4. How to pick your players in game
Well that is basically the same as above, only please remember while your in game that if you saw someone really good that he might have had a lot of luck. So you should observe him a little more games to make sure he is really that good.

5. Don't test the guy in 1 vs 1
That really is the dumbest thing ever did by clans, I myself did that too for a while but hell that isn't worth much. A decent 1 vs 1 is completely different then Team games, you have more time in a BM 1 vs 1 because no one can stab you in the back. Scrum 1 vs 1 games are even worse, they are just bming each other and then take the scrum and rush to the goal. If you have done point 3 and 4 then you know that player has the skill you need and you shouldn't test him.

6. Never say "yes" emmediatly to a joining request
Always consider the person very carefully: Do you know him well? What kind of player is he? Does he overreact (to) fast? Is he the person we need? Does he have the skill? Therefore you must (kinda) spy on him, to get your answers on these questions. But please notice, that guy will be looking for you to join your clan so I recommend to use an alias (because these guys get a lot nicer when you are there...).

7. Remember clans need skill
It is very important that you get skilled players, skinning and modding are skills to but they don't improve your clan as there are many skinners that make skins on request (same for modders, you can come to me for a training mod..). TS and TBM skilled players are those you need, CTF too but that is less important as there are hardly CTF games nowadays.

8. Don't ever let DEMO's in
They cannot play Team games and are useless for you clan.

9. Request LOYALTY
If you don't get loyalty then this player isn't worth a lot for you army. You need to be able to count on him. I suggest to add a rule similar to this one:

You CANNOT be in OTHER CLANS

or limit the number (the lower => more loyalty you get!)

10. Allays be open for input from members
They always know what is better for their position, because they are in it. That is the mistake made by many kings in the past, they just didn't know what the people wanted! So always stand open for input from your members or let them vote on important decisions. This will keep them happy and interested in the clan-life.

11. Chose your (co-)leaders well!
If you have good co-leaders who have their own ideas so you can rely on them. You can discuss everything with them and so get a better vision on things. I myself have 2 extra-ordinary co-leaders and together we ve made ST strong.
Don't ever give those who first join the co-leadership, choose those who are capable to do it.

Well that is it for now...
any more tips are welcome, as long as I can consider them ;)

@ Scythe:

Wow, excellent advice and layout there. I was just poping in to ask one small favor. Could perhaps add a link to my thread which also has some "keeping active" tips? LINK

Thanks and good job. :)
