Train, train, train, train & more training
Can never train enough
Try to make every one in Army all around players
Don't limit your self or allow any one to be one suited
Meaning, play every thing from TS, Indie, BM, TBM, CTF & Surivior(if it's every up)
Don't make promises you cannot keep
All ways give praise when it is earned

Yea, like:
Never give up when it gets hard or u get told your army will fail because the only reason an army fails is because its leader is either: Incompetent, A n00b, stinky player, swears, or ppl just plain don't like the person.
Like it?

Yes I do! I changed the wording a little bit but its # 30 on the list if you want to look - I gave credit for it to you as well.

Main post updated - guidelines 33 - 36 added.
33) As a leader, you must be flexible - there will be some times where a couple of members are on leave. If this is the case - don't go off all angry, work with who is available and keep the army up to speed.
34) Know when to push and when to back off - we all have different personalities. If someone is out-of-line, gently encourage them to observe the army's rules. However, some things can work themselves out be their own, so don't go to hard on your members.
35) Set a standard for your members to follow - they will follow your example.
36) Keep a regular pace to the army - don't go and schedule 3 wars in a week, for example. Get in at least 2 practices every 2 weeks, and schedule wars with at least 3 weeks in between them.
:)
Good ones spirit, You have the spirit spirit! (I know someone said that before XD )

Thx USS - lol.
Main post updated - guidelines # 38 - 43 added:
38) ALWAYS keep your army members updated - I cant stress this one enough - if a member thinks that an army is becoming inactive, they will most likely leave it and join a different force
39) Be careful who you recruit - another disaster would be to recruit someone that seems to be tempermental and power-hungry, these are army-killers. Don't recruit someone based solely on skill, you need to look for people that are devoted, cheery and serious.
40) Don't be afraid to worn your members if they do something wrong - if you become lax, your army will simply crumble.
41) Always make it clear who you want to play in wars and special events - make it plain otherwise people will get testy.
42) Don't be a show-boat - members don't want a over-ego officer or leader that proclaims that the army is the best and that it wil dominate every time - it just isnt going to happen.
43) At the same time, take pride in your army - lead it with spirit and some spunk.
;)

@ Cassie: I'm on YIM now, if you want to talk to me. I can't remember if we talked about ^ before I left on Wednesday or not. Anyways, I'm on now if you want to talk - and I actually really want to talk to you too.

This is kind of a "next stage lesson" if you want to call it that, from my other two threads about main posts and suggestions from TTers to new players.
Here are the links:
What a good main post looks like
Anyways, here are some of my suggestions for how to keep an army active:
1) Remember to always update your first post, INCLUDE: War results, new recruits, general updates, practices info etc.
2) Organize wars carefully - by that I mean make sure everyone knows if they are playing or not and what the password is
3) Try to post in ur army forums at least once per day - it helps keep the thread rolling with dicussion
4) Establish an army forums - this will help keep the PTT army thread clear of any passwords, codes etc that u don't want other TTers to see except army members
5) ALWAYS compliment your army members as much as possible - if they do a good job at a practice, say "Nice work ____!"
6) Make sure to give out promotions to those who qualify to have them - this will show army members that you care about running a good army that rewards its members for hard work and dedication
7) TEAMWORK - this is key for an army to jell well - help your members out if they are having a tough time, support them
8) Be on the lookout for members that don't follow the rules and keep an eye on the spam - if someone cosntently spams or breaks the rules, don't be affraid to be the disciplinarian
9) This one is important: Stick to your rules. Rules arent good if they are just on paper - they are good if they actually are upheld
10) Maintain a standard for ur army - don't let "laziness" affect the way u run ur army
11) Control harsh treatment to members - we all are different, so don't go off at some poor guy that is just trying to be a good member but perhaps screws up one or two times
12) Regulate activeness - If someone is becoming inactive, email them ASAP and explain the situtation
13) Keep track of ur members outside of ur army - repuation is key
14) Maintain a discipline policy - warn those who have done wrong repetedly and stick by what you believe
15) Hold practice at least once a week, keep ur members active and developing
16) hold meetings sometimes (like maybe 2 a month) to go over major updates in the army
17) Create a website for ur army - this will get it known to other people and can be a great asset for making ur army popular
18) Appoint Co-Leaders and other officers carefully, these people need to be active, aware and helpful instead of hindering
19) Don't be afraid to challenge veteran armies - this again will get u and ur army known more
20) Establish at least two hosters who can be counted on to host wars, meetings and practices - Opposing armies HATE no-shows, and scheduled practices are only good if they actually happen
21) If you need to leave PTT and TT for a period of time, entrust ur army to a suboordinate who you trust to handle the army well untill you get back
22) Don't be shy - talk to other TTers and veterans, heck - you might just pick up some valuable tips
23) Offer training services to new recruits - let them now that you care abou them
24) Treat new recruits with respect and courtesy - they will most likely want to make a quick impact and impression, let them know that they are valuable assets
25) be reasonable- control ur army with a steady hand, and treat others the way you want to be treated
26) Your army may go through "rough spots" - perhaps losing a tough war or losing 1 or 2 members. These are the timese you must pull your army throough as a leader - keep everyone upbeat
27) Constantly update what is happening with the army - members don't want to be left in the dark
28) Listen to veteran army leaders if they come to you with suggestions - you want to make a good impression
29) Go easy on members who may never have been in an army before - remember, we all have our different learning paces
30) Never EVER give up - leading an army is not as easy as it seems - you have to deal with a lot of different people and situations, its how you deal with them that determines how other players view you as a leader*
31) Treat army officers with respect - nothing is more problematic in an army if the officers / leaders and members don't mesh well together
32) Keep an updated list of people who are unavailable for wars/practices etc. - that way, there won't be the need to search for an extra player to fill in for someone that cannot come at the last minute.
37) Always stay upbeat - the last thing a member wants to see is a officer or leader who has "lost it"
38) ALWAYS keep your army members updated - I cant stress this one enough - if a member thinks that an army is becoming inactive, they will most likely leave it and join a different force

There is obviously much more than I have mentioned here, but most of that is mental stuff, like for example, USE COMMON SENSE. C'mon people - we all have some of it.
Please feel free to post additions to the list and I will edit this post with more when I think of them.
@ new army leaders: I hope this helped you, g'luck with your armies!
