34 in September - that is if this job deosn't kill me first.
One pissed off wife who thinks my job sucks.
5 dogs that don't half recognize me when I come home...surprised one of them hasn't tried to bite me.
6 cats that don't really give a damn as long as I have the ability to open food.
How do you graph that?
Hmm
On my birthday, in 1965...
The largest newspaper - Sunday New York Times - was published at 946 pages for 50˘.
946 pages! That's longer than 99% of normal books! Yikes!
All for 50˘ too. Don't get why there wasn't a mail carrier strike on my birthday too.

@Stealth, LC50, Vanbuskirk: Yeah, late 20s! W00t! (yeah right. Coming up on 30 is real fun). San Francisco, too, so geographically and age-wise you're the closest to me in this game that I know of. Just thought you'd like to know.
@ Chief 5 dogs & 6 cats!?!! Yikes! Do they play TT? I hear PyschoScrum is looking for players. *Kill Tally... Fetch the scrum... Good doggy*
@ asterik I was only 3 at the time, but the newspaper thing reminds me of being a Rocky Mountain News delivery boy in the early seventies. I used to put all the cash I collected in a coffee can at the end of the driveway every Saturday night around 8pm. The paper guy would pick it up around 3am Sunday morning, leave a receipt and then drop off all the papers I had to deliver.
All this happened on the corner of a busy intersection. Can you imagine anyone doing that now? Looking back on it I can't believe that no one ever stole the cash.
Oh, almost forgot the obligatory "I had to deliver the paper 5 miles uphill in the snow".

Ok Sluggy. On my 1st birthday a famous and oppressing bit of architecture went up in the world. Pink Floyd has an album of the often used name. I threw that in for TG btw as Sluggy probably thinks Pink Floyd is some fizzy drink had at bistro's.

Ah yes, I left for my stint with the US Air Force soon after that monstrosity went up. I was exhaultant when it was replaced by something more open and transparent.

Slug, I went and stared at the thing on and off for a few years then saw a plaque regarding it's date of erection. Sorta bummed me out to say the least. It was such a sight seeing the Brandenburg Gate becoming a gate again! Always open as intended. Freedom rings!
I'm 43.

When I was in high school in Madrid we had to go to the American Embassy a couple of times each year and watch movies about the spreading cancer of Communism.
My mom and I wanted to visit her relatives in Montenegro but we weren't allowed into Eastern Europe.
That bit of ugliness was only a few miles long but it cut Europe right in half.

Damn Commies!
Long Live the Capitalist Pigs! Long Live a wealthy Mars!
Im going back to the original question and im 14 almost 15
I can't believe you're 10 Racer. Doesn't matter, I still respect you. It just went against my assumptions. 8o
33, and I have hope that I will still be gaming when I am 50!! Rock on all you old bastards!!! And you young'uns too.
@ K8: I'm 33 in Brooklyn NY (CTF & TS)
I'm surprised to see so many older folks out there. The age gap is interesting too, it explains why some games seem to be so divided with skill and interest.
I wonder if there is something to be learned about the nature of TT with this data. Something perhaps concerning the success of Bravetree to create a game that is actually fun for the young and the old(er) ;').
Hey K8 maybe game preference would be an interesting variable to include.(S,TS, BM,TBM, CTF) or not if every one is going to present essays like they are with there ages.
MAX-CR
I had some grand plans for what to do with the data, but the incredible number of puzzle-answers has made this a nearly impossible task.
Not to mention that fact that about half of this thread mysteriously disappeared after the site downtime. Wonder what happened? :o
OM
Wow.
I remember a world without CDs, cable TV and cellphones. The entire Internet was mostly text viewed on mainframe terminals. I used a 50lb portable computer while working as a Network Manager. I carried it around like a briefcase. It had a 5.25" floppy drive, a 20MB hard disk, an amber 8" screen and WE LIKED IT!
Oh, I'm 36.

@ MAX CR
The explaination is quite simple as I mentioned earlier. The under 17 and over 30 crowd simply aren't "getting any". Therefore have more free time on their hands to play idle games. Yes, I'm married.
I think the sample size is just too small to really draw any conclusions, and there are to many other variables. How popular is TT really, is it GGs biggest selling game? Is the PTT community really that big compared to other communities.
But its also interesting to note that the 17-30 age group brackets the Babyboom Echo; kids of babyboomers. Perhaps the absence of players in this range reflects the parenting style or the characteristics of a generation, compared to us Gen X'rs. Or reflects that Game Consoles are the games of choice for this group.

Well I'm 31 and only got 2 of Grandpa Sluggy's questions right. Im pretty sure there were a few cars which had a foot switch for the headlights including an early Rover - cant be more specific though.
-Z-
I got absolutly 0 of his questions right. Ohh well.
Last edited: Friday, March 19, 2004 at 8:25:37 AM...... FRIDAY!?!?!?!?!?! ONLY 3 MORE DAYS OF MARCH BREAK LEFT!!! NOOOO!!!!!
Right you are -z-.... My 1965 Ford Econoline had a foot switch to control the lights. Interesting thing is, it also had a little rubber sealed foot pump to squirt the windshield washer fluid, and a clutch of steel.... Driving on a dark road in slushy stop-n-start conditions meant a good workout for the left leg.
Well lets see 2004

I'm 25, and I'm a work-a-holic
OK, time for Stats! If I put you to sleep, it's not my fault, no one is making you read this. ;)
First, a simple frequency histogram:
Seems to be a bimodal distribution, with TT peaking in the 11-15 and 31-35 age brackets. 11-15 group is easy to explain... They are just a random set of the huge group of kids who play video games... This age bracket has lots of time on their hands. They should probably be outside more though, burning off some of those krispy cremes. The 31-35 groups... Hmmm, hypotheses abound here. Midlife crisis 30-somethings? Another idea--- when did the original tank combat games become really popular? Sometime in the late 70's-early 80's, when this age group was in the 11-15 age group themselves. A re-living of their childhood tank games?
The 21-25 age bracket is comparitively underrepresented... These people are probably out at the bar or wheverever looking for a mate.
The right side of the distribution is sloping off because of 2 reasons. For one, older people as a rule tend not to play video games as much, and two, they are getting ready for the big dirt nap and are too busy being nice to their gran-kids so they can get into heaven (as hypothesized by 'Ol Pappy Taters).
Now some univariate stats from SAS:
From these stats and the histogram, it's obvious that this dataset is non-normal. The results of the normality tests firmly (P = 0.01) reject the hypothesis that this dataset is normal. However, the dataset is not significantly skewed to the right or left (P > 0.20), nor is it significantly "peaked" (kurtotic) (0.20 > P > 0.10). Not a pretty picture.
That being said, the best summary stats are given in the lower part of the univariate stats: the median plus interquartile range. This is 29 (15-35). Thus, half of the TT players are above 29, half below. About half of the TT players are in the range of 15-35. 25% of TT players are younger than 15, 25% are older than 35.
The youngest reported age was 8, the oldest 52.
LC50
Cool stat charts LC50! Good work. I'll admit though that you totally lost me in the last 2 paragraphs. I'm no statistical scientist.
Also the standard deviation from the mean is 11 years or so which means mean (27) +/- 11 year deviation... The distribution is so widely spaced, few results can be drawn....i must say that the 18 - 25 group are in COLLEGE and are into STUDYING and GETTING LAID....that explains that lol :)
I'm 27
@LC50, next time you find yourself in So Cal, let me know! ;)
@Ass Hat, SF is one of my favorite "get away" locations... My wife and I take like 8-10 weekend getaway vacations a year. And I hear ya on the 30 thing... But my wife is like 16 years older than me... So I don't consider 30 to be as big a deal XD BTW, where've you been lately?

Been outta college for a few years and don't study or get laid... Crap, did I just say that! This is permanent, right? Once you type it you can't erase it... DANGIT! :S

Hi all,
Please reply with your exact age, or if you do not wish to tell us your age, at least say "More than 18" or "Less than 18". But I hope you tell us your real age.....
PLEASE RESTRAIN YOURSELF when you decide that a mathematical or historical puzzle would be a fun way to tell your age! I don't have time to solve all of the puzzles, just looking for numbers so I can chart this out. Thanks for not posting a puzzle.....just gimme your age or I'll moiderize ya.
Why am I asking for your ages? I need a reality check.
I was in an argument with someone on a different forum, (I removed the details of the issue from this post) but one thing that did come to mind in this argument was the question of what age groups play thinktanks?
So, I thought I would ask what your ages are. Might be kinda interesting to graph out the age demographic. Be honest!
Thanks,
Katherine.
