Forums Index >> General >> Demographic survey..... How Old Are You? Please re...

Page : 1 : <2> : 3

Hi all,

Please reply with your exact age, or if you do not wish to tell us your age, at least say "More than 18" or "Less than 18". But I hope you tell us your real age.....

PLEASE RESTRAIN YOURSELF when you decide that a mathematical or historical puzzle would be a fun way to tell your age! I don't have time to solve all of the puzzles, just looking for numbers so I can chart this out. Thanks for not posting a puzzle.....just gimme your age or I'll moiderize ya.

Why am I asking for your ages? I need a reality check.

I was in an argument with someone on a different forum, (I removed the details of the issue from this post) but one thing that did come to mind in this argument was the question of what age groups play thinktanks?

So, I thought I would ask what your ages are. Might be kinda interesting to graph out the age demographic. Be honest!

Thanks,

Katherine.

I remember when TV came on at 8:00 am and went off at midnight!

Sunday, March 07, 2004 at 11:14:29 PM

I remember rotory dial phones. All TV's came in one color. Black or white. Portable radio's had 7 or 9 transistors and were made in the US by Philco. No one had heard of FM or Stereo. That "made in Japan", meant it was junky... Or cheap. The first NBC Disney peacock, before the Wonderful World of Color would begin. The Paul Winchell show. Jerry Mahone and NuckleHead Smith...

What as the theme song for No School Today? What was the name of Big John's littl pal?

Where did Buster Brown live? Who lived there too?

What did Froggy the Gremlin pluck?

What kind of retail stores had X-ray machines for their customers?

What was the name of Chief Rainintheface's daughter?

What was the theme song for The Green Hornet?

What was the theme song for Gangbusters?

Name Blackhawk's teammates.

What was the name of Roy Roger's ranch?

What was Red Ryder's sidekick's name?

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?

How many engines on a B-36?

Where was the headlight dimming switch on a 1953 Chevy?

Who was Curtiss E Lemay?

Who was Luigi and why did we care about his life?

...sluggy the reminiscent

Monday, March 08, 2004 at 9:03:59 AM

Sluggy's questions only work in the $tate$, I'll have to come up with a Brit version. But one thing was the same - shoeshops had X-ray machines in the 1950s here too. Feet that glowed in the dark were considered really cool for a while daddio.

Monday, March 08, 2004 at 10:12:24 AM

At 33 the only question I can make a go at on sluggy's quiz is... The Shadow knows.

(good try, fo fo!)

Geez, I don't even know who Froggy the Gremlin was. Or what he plucked. BUT, if by Luigi you're talkin' about the little Italian plumber of vid game fame, I do know who he was. To tell the truth, I'm usually pretty careless with his life when it gets into my hands. I play poorly as Luigi...

Monday, March 08, 2004 at 3:59:43 PM

PS: I can remember my dad giving me $1.00, to get a gallon of gas for the lawn mower. I did and brought him back his change, he got 75 cents back.

I'm 47 but Mrs. PEST says I act like a kid when I'm being wiped out at TT. I can remember those X-ray machines in Clark's shoe shops, back in the days when my mum would press the end of the shoes to see if there was enough room for my feet to grow. Little did she know that the radiation had stunted any future growth. I still keep falling over in the pub due to my small feet.

Great idea for a thread Katherine. So far the graph of ages would have an interesting look, A focus around 14-15 and another above 30. Im sure one of you will give me the proper name for this kind of graph but I forgot a lot of my statistics( yes I know I am of the older focus). Im sure you can provide a wonderfully detailed graph for us later Katherine. Keep up the responses.

I'm 38 with 3 future TT'ers and I remember when play by mail (snail mail) was the latest in interactive multiplayer game technology.

Tuesday, March 09, 2004 at 1:14:29 PM

Kind of weird. Game I was in last week, we had the same conversation about age. "How old is everyone?"

Guess for the sake of an accurate graph, I should add that Larth & I are both 41.

DanMac, it's referred to as a histogram... Please post!

TG: Good thread! How about posting a summary table of everyone and their ages in your top post? Would be fun to look at in a glance.

Wow, this is an interesting thread! So far, from the postings, about 46 members have given at least a relatively accurate age (not some obscure puzzle post) Tallying them up we get a total of 1307 years divided by the above mentioned 46, and we get an average age of 28.41. So, it looks like there are more bona-fide adults playing than youngsters (at least those who are posting) However, I get the feeling there are many more youngsters out there playing who don't post on these boards, so the average would probably need to be adjusted downwards a bit.

Still, this is good information. I can now use this to prove to my wife that sitting at home in front of my Mac on a Saturday playing ThinkTanks is actually a form of social interaction with my peers! XD XD 8o

Hi all,

I plan to graph out the age groups, but I need a favor. For all of you that left puzzles instead of a simple number, could you please just gimme your age!!!

That is the problem with having a community of creative smarty-pants members.

Lol

35, but I'll be 36 in April

Interesting statistic forming indeed, younger than 16 or older than 30, probably because the 17-29 group is too busy having sex.

@ Tankgirl, according to your birth date in your profile, your 41?

@DanMac and LC50: I would guess that histogram would be bimodal ("...characterized by two distinct, separate populations" - statistically separate, that is!).

Go here . I share my B'day with two guitar players (hey, so am I) and an actress.

After you sort it out, you can go to the home page and look up your B'day to see who you share it with or what event happened on your day.

Have fun :)

1892 - The longest boxing match under modern rules; 77 rounds in Nameoki, Illinois, was held between Harry Sharpe and Frank Crosby. (Who won?)

1905 - Born this day, Ayn Rand, writer (Atlas Shrugged, Fountainhead)

1913 - New York City's Grand Central Terminal opened

1932 - Al Capone was sent to prison in Atlanta, Georgia

1955 - Born this day, Brent Spiner, actor (Data-Star Trek the Next Generation)

And much much more

STOP! Grad school statistics nightmares are returning.

Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 6:22:46 PM

@LCfiddy:

Statistically: quite probable! (although the sampling for the <20yr population is rather thin...)

Characteristically: HELL, NO! I mean, look at our commonality for Pete's sake! P-)

@fo fo: A "grad school pizza" fo you!

NOTE: correlation decreases with increasing lag! How about THAT for a universal truth!
