Anyone interested in creating a total-mod for ww2? Post here w/interest and ideas.

Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 8:23:20 PM

I think a WW III would be better as so we could try to imagin what it would look like rather then what it did look like.

Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 8:51:29 PM

Ah NICE. That's a good thought. From what you've already done, do you think anything would be reminiscent of what things may look like? Ill scour and post a collection of scraps.
We'll call it a mood board.
Find anything to inspire. Images, letters, photos, whatever.

How about put up the Japan Flag? Same for the USA flag.

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 4:09:22 AM

I think its a great idea, but its gonna hafta take a while.

Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 2:07:46 PM

If there would be a mod made, we'd have to have the Japanese side have Kamakazi troopers.

Evil tiwn makes great maps. And I like the red terrain criss-crossed over that little frame of white. It looks alot like WW2.

Evil twin.. Thats a great medium skin - very few medium skins out there too! Is it in the skins library?

I remember doing a japanese-based skin as a collaborative effort between myself and Dan MacDonald a long time ago. Here is a derivative of that skin:

Friday, July 30, 2004 at 9:52:07 PM

Ok Tal, here ya go. Here's my German Light Tank... Or at least what I have done with it so far. I'll make a skin library for it when I'm completely done with it.

Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 4:35:03 AM

Looks good...

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 10:44:32 AM

That's nice MM. Real nice.

Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 11:21:12 AM

Anyone have the game-engine knowledge?

Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 4:08:35 PM

Game engine knowlage to do WHAT?

Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 6:08:21 PM

Ok, so here's what I am thinking [ I am making this up as I go ].
In general, more strategy, less cartoony, more lethal encounters.
physics which are more approximate to the real world
tanks absorbing fewer shots before they are dead [ varying by tank class ].
guns that fire one shell every few seconds [ varying by tank class ].
increased inaccuracy as the tanks move about [ varying by tank class ].
an increased emphasis on team play with a focus on things like high ground and terrain usage.
shot recoil affecting targeting.
more assault-type game play

Nice skins so far, keep going. We'll soon move this away from boards and towards the email zone for more controlled chit chat as we determine who the group is going to be.
{ and if any of this is possible }

Add your thoughts, as I will add as things twinkle.

Saturday, July 31, 2004 at 10:31:59 PM

I don't like the less shots to kill the tank. I think it's too easy to die as is, though I understand what you mean about the one shot item.

What this game needs desperately (all TT actually), is to have viable bigger tanks. Let's make them worth playing. Possible suggestions for the Heavy Tank:
Make them heavier. It's ridiculous that light tanks can push them around like nothing, no matter how fast they go. They Heavies should be the pushers.
If possible, make the Heavies' shots hurt more. Maybe 3 times as powerful. Why would a smaller tank have more power (i.e. More shots per reload)? Doesn't make any sense. There is NO WAY that small tanks should be able to go head to head with a Heavy.
If not possible, what about making them (HEAVIES) have permanent Area effect (and, if possible, having the area effect do no harm to the shooting tank...is that possible?)

I would love to play a game with a variety of tanks, increasing by multitudes the possible strategies. It would greatly vary the games...and you can have crazy strategic mixes.

ALSO: I think we should stay away from Nazi symbols in general. Just a thought. I like Tally's German Tank.

Okay, here's a quick heavy tank in anticipation of the heavy rules being changed as above. :)

I was going to make this an Italian tank (as I'm sure no one will make Italian WW2 Axis tanks), but chose for the American instead.

And here's a quick sky shot with the Heavy

Ror:
all good and well, we all know the game balance has problems.
I'm not interested in addressing those here. We're trying to do something different, increase the realism somewhat with historical connotations.
Nice skin btw, though that camo pattern is post ww2 I believe and the torn away parts look more like rock than metal. Keep plugging.
as far as the nazi symbols go, my first reaction is always similar when seeing that, especially as a jew. However, it's not like it's written on the bathroom wall or something; it's in proper context and not meant as an attack or slur.

Sunday, August 01, 2004 at 4:47:07 AM

Gotcha about the camo. I have an actual camo pattern from WW2 that the Italians used, but it looks more like snake skin.

As far as the Tank suggestions, those were also made to imitate real life more, by making the Big Tanks more lethal and realistic (well, except for my area effect request...)

I'm actually pretty new at making skins (that was my 2nd or 3rd skin), but I've been using Photoshop for over 10 years....so it's alot of fun for me. I use PS about 10 hours a day anyway....so I'll make some more.

However, it's not like it's written on the bathroom wall or something; it's in proper context and not meant as an attack or slur.

Of course my German skins or the symbols used upon them are in no way a reflection of my beliefs. I simply figured that a) I have not seen a German tank yet so I thought I would create one b) for realism, the symbols will be a part of the design as they were seen on german tanks of the period c) I wasn't sure if anybody else would actually want to create a german tank for the reasons that Ror and Tal stated and d) the germans had some interesting and different color schemes for their machines than some of the other powers involved in the war so I thought it would be more interesting from a designers POV. I made the decision to only use the German cross on my skins; I will not use any swastikas.
Anyway I have a Brittish tank, a Russian Tank, an American Tank and others in the works. Plus I have done more work to the German light skin (above) and am working on German Medium & Heavy skins.

Heres some ideas I've came up with after some brain-storming:

Perhaps put some "tents"(if someone with Milkshape or TorqueGE can do this) and a hospital tent where a health gate can be found. Perhaps we can even go into the hospital tent?

If anyone can, make a an object shaped like a missle and make it a projectile for a power up.(make fire at the end to make it look like its using fuel to go)

No ufos.

Make a new terrain with ditches so you can put rocks or a flat object to make it like a bunker. (kinda like IP's troll prison mod)

Make an even different Playing mode(Something like survivor)

Sunday, August 01, 2004 at 6:25:22 PM

Okay, here is my updated Light German tank. I think I might call this one done.

Ditto :)

Sunday, August 01, 2004 at 11:23:12 PM

I like the German tank...though I kind of like the lighter one above also...

Monday, August 02, 2004 at 1:28:36 AM

-z-....thanks for the feedback- I really dig that rising sun skin. Unfortunately I cannot post in the skin library due to my new PTT account.

Rabban...great skins, how could we forget them? As soon as I learned how to change skins, your flying tiger was the first I used. The ufo is great! Really like the camo & the markings...methinks the Ho was thinking along the lines of tank warfare, so no p-40.

CptRik.... I was thinking the same...sherman light- im working on it now, check back later today.

Creamer...no missiles back then, but maybe rockets/ smoke grenades/ mine launcher?

Rorshoq...killer sky- is it seamless on the edges? If so would you mind posting it ?
