Forums Index >> Modding >> Bot Brain Builder Competition?
Sure. Doesn't take much work from me to run this. The hardest part for me is building my entry, as the evolution stuff I do takes a significant amount of time. Fortunately most of it can be done while I'm at work or asleep.
And if I do get too busy to build a new entry, I can alway resubmit an old one or even just pass on a round.
Speaking of which DJ, are you in for this round of Scrum? I don't have you on the participants list above...
Speaking of which: what do we want to do for Challenge #5? My two ideas are revisit challenge #1 since there were only two of us in it, or move up to Medium or Heavy tanks in battlemode.
What are your votes?
Sorry Master TMO, but I can't play TT that often anymore. I have to get ready for Grade 9. Please withdraw me. :[
You all are great people! :(
- b20
No worries! Come back when you've got the time.
Mediums - Battlemode - Greymatter Gorge - October 11th. Be There!
%)
I've defined the Challenges up to December now:
September: Light Tanks @ Indy Scrum
October: Medium Tanks @ Indy Battlemode
November: Heavy Tanks @ Indy Battlemode
December: ANY TANKS @ Indy Battlemode.
The last AnyTank challenge we had everyone did Light Tanks, because that's all we had built up until then. After October and November we should have plenty of variety available. I might also allow multiple submissions, although that will be tricky to arrange. I'll have to see if I can come up with a good way of handling it.
Big Show - what challenge(s) do you want to sign up for? And it's best if you email me the settings for your AI for the challenge you want. My email address is in my profile. That way your AI settings are as confidential as you want to make them (if you want to publish them, that's up to you), and I have them all in one place and don't have to go digging through the Forum trying to find them and guess which one you want used. ;)
Racer - looks like I already have a submission from you. I'll double check later on and send you an email with what I've got.
Forgot all about this yesterday (busy day). Challenge 4 is now closed to new entries. My AIs are going through their final testing right now, and will be finished today.
Tomorrow I will run the challenge; so today is the last day you have to update your AIs if you want to.
Good luck to all!
In my testing, I'm noticing there's not a huge variance in scores between the bots. My bots seem to be striving to reach an average of 2 pts per game. :( And that's the GOOD ones. :S
Either my method just hasn't produced a good scrum AI, or bots just suck at scrum. %)
Pretty sure it's just bots suck at scrum %)
The Match Has Begun! I'll post the results later tonight or tomorrow morning.
Racer has won the first three games. While it's not conclusive, it doesn't look good for the rest of us.... :'(
A very close game! I think we've reached the limits of ScrumBot AI design here. :S
CHALLENGE #4: Light Tanks @ Scrum on Synaptic Slopes
1) Racer 445; 5pts
2) Master TMO; 4.67pts
3) Big Show; 3.67pts
4) Trivox; 3.36pts
5) Gold; 1.88pts
Congratulations Racer!
I'm looking forward to the next few months of challenges. After we've done all of the Indy matchups, we can try out team challenges if anyone's interested. We'll have to see how it goes.
Just a reminder to all that the next challenge is awaiting participants. If I have time, I will see if I can bust a hole in my firewall so that folks can watch the battles some if they want to. I can make it so that no one can affect the outcome quite easily (any player that joins dies automatically, just use the observer command to zip around).
Bot Heavy Tank Indie Scrum=Big challenge??? I think it's best to leave it Heavy Tank Bot Battlemode.
Your name has been added to the ranks. Welcome aboard!
I don't want to enter yet, but didn't someone upload their programed bots awile ago? Where can I find them. I just want to use them so I can learn to make better bots.
Don't expect anything from me anymore as I am not interested to participate on this anymore.
You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.
Dang - I leave town for a week and the thread comes back to life. %)
CannedSplam - welcome aboard. I see I got an email with AIs in it - I assume it's yours, but haven't checked yet.
Triv - I'm sorry to see you go. Thanks for participating in the challenges so far. I have an open door policy on entrants, so if you ever want to compete again just sign up. I'll even waive your entry fee. XD You have been a worthy competitor.
Done! I'm trying to see if I can open a hole in my firewall so that you all can watch the match as it's running.
Still trying to push a hole thru the firewall. I'll let you know if I succeed. Oh, and I need to update that I did get your submissions...
Whoops. Yep. Sorry about that.
Saw your server today tmo, went in as 99% efficient
Ah. Wondered who that was. How was it? I noticed you didn't stay for the full round. Was it ping, or just didn't want to Battlemode that much?
I'll have 2 different kinds of servers running normally. I need to name them better. One of them will be the server I use to evolve my AIs for the challenges. These will be kinda boring for most of you, as all human players will die immediately and not be able to participate.
The other is a project I've been working on as a sideline for a while. I'm trying to evolve a bot AI that's good in Battlemode against Humans. That means that all the versions have to be tested against humans, both the good and the bad. This is what I've got running right this second.
No, I just get bored playing with bots
Well, I'll leave it running on and off, so if you ever feel like the challenge and it's up, please feel free. I actually need to redesign it's methods, but the more data, the better.
The current batch of bots is actually kinda weenie. I scored 35 against them. The best bot got 5.

Hmmm.... Lots of people are logging in, but nobody's staying the full 15 minutes. Can you think of any way I can make it more fun for the people so they'll stay the whole game?
In short: Most players prefer to play with other players, not with bots. Playing with real humans are more fun than playing with coded bots.
You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.
Yah, I understand that. Unfortunately that doesn't help me develop better AIs though playtesting. :'(
A shorter timelimit might work. I think I'll also post the scores in a thread of their own and see if people get interested in the challenge if they can see how they did compared to other players.
Received them. Main status entry updated. Thanks!
DJ Wings - Still missing your AI! Please turn it in as soon as possible.
DJ - will give you another day, maybe two, before running the competition without you.
Okay, I have them all. I don't have time to set it up to run right now, and I have PSL games tonight, so I'll set it up tomorrow morning and leave it running all day and evening for anyone who wants to watch part of it.
No problem. It'll run with or without you there to see it. Having an audience won't change the results any. But now you'll be able to see where your AI is performing well and where it's not.
I have begun the match! You may join and watch it. Use /OBS to move around and watch the fight if you like. It should be impossible to affect the match at all. If I find that anyone has found a way to do so I'll restart it and lock it down so no one can get in.
I joined it tonight.....it looked like racer's and dj's were kicking butt....
Only lethal on days that end with "Y"
Rules:
- Each Builder can submit 1 AI per Challenge, unless a Team Challenge is issued.
- All AI's will use the same tank stats; all you can customize is the AI. The AI settings can contain any value that will not crash the program.
- AI's will be submitted by email, and will be confidential. I will erase them from my computer after each Challenge.
- Each Challenge will consist of at least 10 games, to minimize randomness and luck.
- Individual and total scores will be posted.
- Winner will be determined by Average Points Scored per Game.
