Good or bad? Does this have anything to do with the Medium tank's stats being so poor that they have to do it?

Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at 8:25:10 PM

Camping is actually a strategy, and a smart one. It just ruins a game, and that's why we all hate it.

Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at 8:47:24 PM

Keep in mind that hunting campers is a strategy too....

I_ () I_ to you too!! I think there needs to be a line between camping and getting to the goal a little before everyone else. Where is that line. Does it exist?

Personally, my opinion is that camping is legit in Team games - that's why you have teammates. I think it boils down to attitude... If you just sit back and wait for the others to bring you the scrum and try to take it without giving others a chance to take it back from you, you're camping. If you are at the goal and drive out to take it, but still leave a chance for others to get it from you, it edges back over the line into marginally acceptable. In this case, maybe they just know they're not a good enough driver to stand a chance at bringing it back alive - although I'd prefer they tried, personally.

Sunday, December 28, 2003 at 12:38:16 PM

I agree with TMO. Camping is a legit strategy if the game is even strength on both sides. However it can easily be countered by having someone goaltending to clean out the campers.

Monday, December 29, 2003 at 12:50:59 PM

Camper hunting can be really fun. Personally in team scrum I like to have a goaly on my team. In singles I dont mind it unless they are waiting inside the green. Then I start head-hunting...

Tuesday, January 06, 2004 at 11:01:11 AM

I mostly camp all of the time. Everyone aims for me and it's really confusing!

Friday, January 09, 2004 at 1:37:17 PM

Camping is cheesy. It does't take much skill to do and it can make a scrum breakaway fail. Just know that if someone is camping, they are either waiting for the scrum to come to them. Or they suck at the game, and that is the only way they can remotly score.

It is still perfectly legal to do it. Most often the best thing to do is go camper hunting. Often they are looking at the scrum melee and not thier surroundings. You often can unload a full clip on them before they can even react. Ventran scrummers can approach the goal in such a way to make camping useless. My favorite is the J-turn and backing into the goal. XD

Cliff diving is jsut cheap. I find it more of a challange to try to score when I am not at 100% health. Also the cliff divers are often doing it because they are no where near the scrum/goal and that is the fastest way for thigns to change.

Demos (limited to mediums) camping and diving is reasonably acceptable in my book. However, a far better ploy is to point out to them that people score consistenly better when they dont just sit at the goal on the offchance of snagging a freebie from someone else. If this means discretely helping them to score a goal or two in the game without them camping then so be it. I'd rather give a demo a couple of goals for trying than to see him forever camping. Once they have scored a few from being out in the field, they should see that it is far more exciting, tense and rewarding - and hopefully won't return to their camping strategy unless forced to because every other player is a talented light tank.

Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 11:31:06 PM

Demos camping is no big deal to me. They are so slow that they can never score on me. But lately they cliffdive real bad and I was starting to get angry last night... The 2 that were doing it ive seen online for 2+ months and I know they have no intention of buying the game anyway so I shot them down and had a few words... I wanted to prove to them that I could win by going after the flag. It didnt work. Sorry to any of u that might have witnessed this...

Sunday, January 11, 2004 at 1:28:05 AM

Ahh. Ignore them. Like -z- said, demo camping is fine by me. They are too limited to use advanced strategies.

Sunday, January 11, 2004 at 4:58:12 AM

I do use strategies. But, please, kill me if you want! I don't mind. I find it kinda funny XD

Sunday, January 11, 2004 at 8:16:59 AM

You don't sound like you take the game very seriously.....

Monday, January 12, 2004 at 2:00:03 AM

Pardon me but I do . It's the way I play it. It doesn't matter what you think it's what I personally think 8(

Monday, January 12, 2004 at 5:37:07 AM

If you start taking the game TOO seriously you may want to re-think your priorites.....

Monday, January 12, 2004 at 10:07:37 PM

Camping IS important too XO

Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at 5:31:44 AM

I only camp when I'm playing team scrum, other times someone kills me and I get put where the goal is and b4 I have a chance to move someone says, "ZOON'S CAMPING!!!!", that really gets on my nerves, and for some reason no one ever believes you when u say u got killed and placed there:(

Friday, January 16, 2004 at 7:31:22 PM

The only time I remotly camp is if I recently spawned and need to get my bearings. Often the first thing I will head towards is the goal. I can then judge where the ball is and how quickly it will come.

But as all goiles learn, dont just sit in the net, you need to attack so they cannot score.

Thursday, January 22, 2004 at 8:29:55 PM

I dont think some people should consider camping cheating....its a stratigy that works...i got 10 points out of I once..... XD

Saturday, January 24, 2004 at 2:36:14 PM

I think camping is just fine as long as you dont do it the whole game

For example.....if your in a pack following the scrum and you get killed and come back closer to the goal than the pack then its not so bad to just wait.

But it is dumb when a guy just goes from goal to goal and camps the WHOLE time.

Camping is fine by be as long as you dont wear it out....

Saturday, January 24, 2004 at 5:53:06 PM

YOU SEE CAMPERS IN LIFE EVERYDAY. THEY ARE THE GUYS SITTING IN THE CORNER OF THE BAR WAITING FOR THE GIRLS TO ASK THEM OUT. GOOD LUCK, IF YOU HAD SOME BALLS YOU MIGHT NOT BE SO PATHETIC.

Sunday, February 29, 2004 at 7:09:46 PM

I think nearby "camping" is nessesary when you have 10 players in a singles scrum. Otherwise It's a slow trek of meaningless carnage across the map.

Sunday, March 07, 2004 at 12:21:36 PM

There is a line between camping and active play - a term I use is "positional play". Though not always possible because you may be killed or the like- but putting your tank in the best possible position between heavy action (in the scrum) and non action (let us say camping) is key- and you see the very best executing this to perfection. Knowing when to move into the action and make a play is delicate and often not easily done but it is the difference between scoring and dying. Of course there is dumb luck too. I like gerbs comment- too true - you bring what you are in the real world into the way you play.

Actually, if you play in a game that has only computer opponents, you can camp and score consistently. I scored 15 points in this way(I'm a demo)

Sunday, April 11, 2004 at 12:10:53 AM

My opinion on camping is that it is fun when there are bots, but with ppl on its bad ettiquite. Now the team camping thing is part of the game, but when teams arent in effect, camping/hiding in survivor is a bad deal.

Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at 2:48:04 PM

Well I haven't seen many ppl camping anymore so I don't care. Anyway when I was a demo I camped. Sometimes I still camp. Hehehehehe.

In a game with all bots you (atleast I) score over and over no matter what I do. That's nothing.

I think Camping from DEMOS is fine, its easy to score on them anyway. Real players that just go from goal to goal and camp, and actually try to say "Its a strategy" are simply just really bad players and can't do anything but. They're still easy to score on, and fun to pick off when you have some time away from the scrum :) :)

There is a line that should be drawn though. I was in a game with Vanbuskirk this morning and apperently he just spent the whole game yelling at people for camping, even though I know most of the players there don't camp. He even called it on me twice, one after I spawned from the goal, and drove far away from it before stealing the ball from him. Then again while EVERYONE was crowding the goal, getting blown up one after the other grabbing for the ball, and I drove thru the goal, tapped it from him, and backed into the goal. Neither situations are camping at all.

Diving.... That's just completely unacceptable from anyone.

@Alien...

I totally understand your frustration with the camping label that far too many players (even vets!) tend to throw out there way too often and incorrectly! I never use the C word because I expect demo's and noobs to camp and always give vets the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the subject of camping. I will assume that they either spawned in or near the goal or just snuck up on me out of nowhere. I do this because the shoe's been on the other foot (or tread) many times. I've spawned in or near the goal or managed to fly to the goal from the opposite end of the map just in time to steal the scrum from someone who never saw me coming and scored...only to be called for camping! Argh!!!!

I wish we would all stop using that term once and for all. I think it is very obvious when someone is camping and when they are not.

There's always a gray area when it comes to camping sometimes too.

Lastly, I've never seen a camper ever win a game! So it doesn't matter whether or not someone is a camper anyway!

I think the ones who use that term too often and get upset the most by campers are those players who can't seem to score on campers much and those who don't feel confident about being able to score more goals.

U havent played a good camper yet.

I think camping is a part of the strategy to large team scrum or even CTF games as would be the blocking to neutralize it but as for individual play or small scale games I fell its just a cheap steal. As for -z- and his heart of gold for the Demos, I say let the Demos fend for themselves. I was a demo like most of us were at one point and I knew no such thing as camping and I'd compete with the players just fine. I developed most of my skills from that period which makes me a horrible camper now but a pretty decent asset in normal play.

Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 12:02:58 AM

I hate it when I'm camper hunting, and then get framed as a camper )-:

Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 7:46:00 PM

The medium thank is good enough, the methd that they 'r using is just the most easy method. Sitting covered and waiting for passengers. I hate it that they stand in the goal, that really sucks :(

Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at 5:10:54 AM

I don't really mind what demos do. Only thing which I don't really like is planned cliffdiving with the flag. As long they dont do that they are free to do whatever they want. And camping by demos dont bother me, I won't kill them if they won't kill me. But if they are pretty new demos I won't even kill them. I'll try to give them some kills/goals in game. Its not really fun when you are yourself way better than him/her plus he/she are driving in medium tank.

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

Another thing I don't get is why people that are on low health, and are being followed and shot at, run over cliffs. Most people will think that the hunting person won't get the point becuase the hunted commited suicide by running of the cliff. But that's wrong. The point will go to the person that hit the suicidal tank last.

Tuesday, August 02, 2005 at 5:58:09 AM

Hmm...
when I was demo (not long ago) I tryed camping MUCH, but when I changed full, I stopped...
I dont understand..

Personally, I dont see anything wrong with camping, because it is a vital part of team scrum. When u r up against a group of good ppl, it would be a waste to go after the scrum ball, so camping would be necessary. I camp at times, I clear the goal at times, and I go after the ball at times.

Now in individual scrum, camping, I think, is still ok, because more than likely some1 will kill the camper(s) and then leave the goal.

Diving is the only thing that is NOT OK , no matter where u r, but that only applies if u have the scrum. If u dont and u have low health, then it is ok to dive.

Nope UR dumb 4 bringing up an 18 days dead thread. Ps -z- about the "demos limited 2 meds" even tho this thread is dead jacob brought it back up. Anyway yeh about that ur only half right. Demos CAN use the light tank. Tho I wanna wait 2 see if u'd allow me 2 cuz it *might* make a em a *bit* more annoying. But still. Heck I'm a demo and see my icon? Thats cuz I use the light all the time. So yeh is it safe 2 post how 2 get the light and heavy tanks as a demo?
