TD's statement was actually reflexive. Someone was on their way to a goal and he got him within a length. Does that ever happen in TBM? Also, when is the last time a TBM match came to a halt because of a conversation? Try that in TBM mb :).
A] what is bolo lying about?
B] rogue, easy, I know your are not a noob, as does everyone else here. I think FF changes the game, makes things too easy. You see atank on your own team hounded by a couple of smoking cripples, so drop a few AEs on them, score easy kills, leave your teammate usncathed.
Where da fun in dat?
Some random additions to the discussion:
I'm curious if the team battlemoders spend more time communicating out of game. Strategizing, congratulating, etc, over email, rather than in game?
I think that's the case. The Zombie Squadron does it's share of planning and strategizing the week leading up to the game. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't... But it's fun to think about.
This is a map I worked up for last week's game when we were playing as blue team on Synaptic slopes. There was a lot of strategy going on as far as when and how we would attack, what positions to defend, etc., but you can get a general idea from this map:
Anyways, I like scrum too. Az's Friday night games were always the best (Az whereforart thou?). I even remember jumping in as a sub in the first Team Scrum League on Tally's team.
A bunch of ppl though I was crazy for drafting Scrum veterans Bolo and OM to my Team Battlemode League Team, but I recognized the skills and it is paying off! There are transferable skills among the worlds of scrum and battlemode... And people who play both regularly can develop an edge over other "single-minded" types. For example, there is a certain knowledge of the field that I get from scrum that helps in battlemode. On the other hand, some of the close combat/manuvering skills I've picked up in battlemode help out in scrum.
BUT - Until you can battlemode and lay waste to the field while in the heavy tank and then switch over to a light tank and keep up with the hard-core scrummers, all of you will be beneath me. ;)

Understand that FF would dull "real" games. I'm talking about the everday servers. I would be against having FF off in a league game, but for everyday play I'd be for it. Similar to another game I play with some friends I grew up with, Medal of Honor. When all of us are together we turn FF on, when we play with idiots it's off. No worries, not gonna happen anyway. Just thought some of you techies that host may know how.
I think most BMers would agree that we do chat a lot. There are a dozen or so of us that will chat rather than play seriously. In fact on Tuesday there was a tank named Jerry in BM that was rather disgruntled. "He kept saying, "It really pisses me off that you all are still whacking the hell out of me while in the midst of a conversation." I thought it was funny. It seems that later at night when the older crowds plays you get more convo. I think we could all agree that there is much less BS later in the evening once the kiddies are fast asleep. Hell I won't even go into a server if I don't know half the tanks. In these servers I could probably tell you where they all live, marital status, occupation and some of their hobbies. LC for instance likes to head over to old folks homes and steal all of their colostomy bags. What he does with them, I haven't the foggiest.
Please consider me a noob. If I'm now a vet or regular I may be getting a letter from my wife's lawyer soon.
Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.
Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.
Liar is just playing around, friendly lier.
Wow! LC50 should post the details of his livinghood in the thread 'what do you do for a living'. :)
@ Reagent X: I like to rally the troops. WE MUST WIN - but will we? Minced, aye, we were. ;)
@ Rogue: I don't care for people telling me when to shoot my foes, and you shouldn't. Really. Whiners, aye.
If they're blue and you're green or vice-versa, it is enough evidence in court to allow you to knead them out.
This said I like to finish off my foes closer to the scrum or goal, since to kill them too early might mean they will spawn in a better place with a new tank, and consequently it was foolish for me to kill them so far from my objective .
About which game is more complex: In TS you have to do both: to kill AND to score. Wow. IQ churning out synaptic sloping all over the mesa! :P
TMBL, especially in the league, was starting to develop deep strategizing and real synchronizing in the early winter. I can only guess how far this has been pushed now! Must be awesome. That for sure no need for such planning in TS! The TBML thread is quite cool (apart from the recent flaming) too, with the usual ranting and etc.
As to me I don't care to play just to kill other tanks. I think it's because I played lots of Space Invaders when I was 8. XD
THe only good hugo is a dead hugo...unless he is on my team which he never is....:)
@LC
Glad u picked me for your team....really starting to make a name in the BM community....getting pretty good with a heavy myself....if only they wouldnt bump us all the time....
I am all for a 5 on 5 team league where we play CTF, TS, and TBM and use ALL maps..think that would be a blast!!
B
I'm exclusively a scrummer. I never touch BM. 'nuff said.
@Tally
Why do dat map look familiar. Gotta start copyrighting stuff. XD
@Brainiac
Heck when I was eight we played with rocks. Of course, rocks is all der was in dose days.
We woulda played cowboys and indians but cows hadn't been domesticated yet and dere were no Indians. Heck, twe were llucky not to have tails.
Instead we played humans & baboons. Mostly we lost because the baboons were better organized than we were in those days. Very social animals baboons. I was complaining about the unfairness of it all to my uncle Urthogg, who was working on his latest invention, wheels without corners. I'll never forget what he said. He looked down and me and smiled, "Don't worry about it Sluggy. As soon as evolution kicks in you'll leave those baboons in the dust."
Danged if he wasn't right.
Though I still see the odd baboon now and again on TTanks. They don't survive for long on the Frantic Slug
That said. During the short period I played BM League I throughly enjoyed the pre-game strategizing. The map making. The plotting, The planning but as much as I enjoyed that part I pretty much sucked as a BM player. My, throw yourself on the handgrenade, style of play had a very low profitability and there was hardly a free moment for the a clever aside.
As for tactical versus strategic. Naw. There is enormous strategic and tactical breadth in both TBM and TS. Whether to pursue the striker or protect the goal. Whether to approach the goal in wide sweeps, direct thrusts. Whether to charge the goal al fresco or with team support. When to pass. When to receive. When to kill and when to leave smokin. From my perspective Frantic is the most strategic set of maps for TS. Boost and pad placement, ridges, bluffs, valleys all providea bevy of choices for long term planning.
...granpa sluggy the still verbose

Ever notice a different atmosphere in BM vs Scrum?
In scrum, most people start with a greeting when they enter a server (hi, sup, etc)....and provide a closing when leaving the server....(cya, later, etc)
In battlemode if it wasnt for the dialogue u wouldnt ever know who came and went....
In scrum when somebody gets a skillful goal u usually hear "n1, gj, etc"
In BM u dont hear anything unless it is "lucky shot"
In scrum after every non-asshole penetrated game u hear "gg, vgg, etc"
In BM u dont hear anything unless it is "we were outnumbered, etc"
In scrum mostly everyone participates to balance the teams
In BM if it is 1 player and 4 bots vs 5 players then it is "EVEN"
In team scrum when there is good passing, blocking, etc u hear "gjt, nice pass, etc"
In TBM when u protect a smoker on your team and waste their attacker.....nothing
In TS usually the healths are given to the flag carrier or someone in need....
In TBM it is FIRST come FIRST serve....
Same with the powerups....
In TS usually bounceback and area effect are used to not injure your own teammates unless the opponent is about to score
In TBM u get in the way u DIE
My latest pet peeve in TBM is when you are about to kill an opponent and your OWN teammembers shoot u accidentally while trying to get credit for the kill....i dont really care who gets the credit for the kill but PLEASE dont shoot your own team in the process!!! Also people who leave the game right before you kill them are MORONS!!!!
