I got this on my back about 6 years ago. Drew it myself, this was the original sketch.
I dream of getting the rest of my back filled in w/ this (my back is a bit more proportioned like that, I'm just flexing it out for the picture) and possible a moon on one arm and a matching star on the other.
Nice to see two sun, moon, and star posts right off the bat :)

I think the one on top means big (ookii) and I don't recognize the bottom one. I'll have my Japanese wife check it out.
Actually, I think it might also mean fire (Kai)

The basic meaning is "The Sun" and the long definition breaks down into a few things… "The one true star".
First character means grand, the same word Tai as in "Tai Chi" (in Chinese pronunciation) Second character is Yang as in Yin/Yang, which generally translates into bright or light, so yeah, I guess a way to translate the whole set would be "grand light" or "the sun"
BTW, LilAlienD, nice tat. I've always thought about getting one, maybe on my shoulder or someplace like that. Someplace a little inconspicuous. I'm not sure why I haven't. I think the seeming permanence of tattoos scares me away a bit.
@ All
I will have to find a way to post it, due to the fact its not in my pc its a photo and have not learned how to do that and we don't have a scanner. Any one with info on how to please input. Would love to post mine I drew it myself, also would help explain my nick name too. :P B)
I was in Amsterdam the weekend they had the tattoo convention so I stopped by the convention hall to check it out. OMG, I had no idea about the scope of what goes on with tattoos these days! Personally, I don't do the adornment thing (jewelry, tattoos, watches, etc.). My body has been personalized by 40 years of hard knocks.
It was good to have a plane full of completely tattooed people to divert attention from me though. ;)
I'm thinking about getting a tattoo. I can't be too sure though, ya get it on and then ya can't get it off. I'd have to find a really good design. I'd be on my back, right between my shoulder blades.!. %)
A friend of mine has a story about a guy her dad was in the military with. While young and in the service he got caught up in the moment and had a large impressive eyeball tattooed on the top of his head. Thinking along the lines of, "when I rejoin civilian life, I can let my hair grow out and cover up this intimidating tattoo."
When he got out of the military, that's what he did. His hair grow out and and nobody knew. Over the years, he became a successful respected business man. Clean cut, suit and tie, etc. That's when he started to lose his hair. Slowly his now wrinkled eyeball started to peak out from under his receding hairline....
I wanna get a tattoo of lines of blood, running down my back. I already drew it, and it looks really amazing in comparison to my back. Too bad I'm not allowed...
Mark, might look cool now, might look really lame when you get a bit older... Might regret it immensely.
I have a small (1") tattoo in a very private place. It is a crescent moon with an eye, it is just north of the bikini line and only noticeable to a select few in my lifetime. I have been told it appears to make eye contact... And that it likes to watch.
I will not be posting a picture of this.

Well SOMEONE post a pic or two.
Mark, although it sounds cool, that doesn't sound like something you'd appreciate in your middle ages. I think it'd be freakin' awesome to tattoo a 'tear' in my calf with a bunch of computer chips and wires showing thru, but same thing, cool now, not so much in 10 years. Figure out something meaningful in your life that you know you want to stick with you till the end. My sun represents what my mom has called me since I was a wee newbie.... "Sunshine" and was done in Japanese Kanji to represent my japanese heritage from my father.
Lol 56k!
I'm with Blind Cide, my body has been personalized by 42 years of hard knocks. Last year my Brother-in-law had a booth at Harley's 100th Anniversary. He made large 20" x 30" poster-sized photos of the bikers and their rides. Being the photoshop guy, I got to design the posters and pop people in. Seemed like every other booth was a tattoo parlor. Met a lot of interesting people, and saw some of the WILDEST tattoos ever!
The strange thing we noticed was that a lot of the Europeans would have tats above the neckline, but no one from the states.
I hate all tatoos and piercings
I'll have to agree with Bolo on this one.... Not piercings as much becasue they go away easily. But I think it's essentially marking yourself as something you may not want to be in the future. Also, it's permanant, even with laser surgery. So, if you went in the military for instance, you would always know how to be identified. You could never successfully change identities with something like that. And it's gross when you see an old, saggy man or woman with tattoos drooping down his/her back or front at the beach or something.

Will some one please read and answer my question that I asked up above, so I can post my tattoo! Thanks B)
@ LONEWOLF, I seem to remember Walgreens having a service that will scan photos for you. I think they even have something like a kiosk that you can walk up to and scan things into. You can also try just about any copy store. Most of them offer scanning services.
@Hanksta, Lol! Another great Tank Skin!

Yeah sorry bout that LoneWolf,
As KBC said you can take em into most newer photo centers (Walgreens, Walmart would probably be cheapest) and use a kiosk to scan em and save em onto a CD. Or if you have a little $$ to spare, head out to CompUSA and get one of these . Great line of scanners ;)
Rabban,
Yeah seriously. Only 4 people so far? Tisk tisk.
Hanky,
Well at least you finally shaved your back.

Here's one, an old fashioned needle, thread and ink of India. Neither proud or ashamed of it. ("Feed The World, for you "yoots" out there, LOL). Never faded, was done several times over, (had some time to kill back then). May get a pic of a Dobe on the right arm this fall, "RIP My Sam" for my beloved Samantha, gone almost 6 yrs and never forgotten. For the record, that is not the tattoo of a computer nerd, nor the arm of one either. An old school deal mounted on a 16"+ bicep.

Naplam, is that tatto REALLY on your bottom?
Last edited: Monday, December 20, 2004 at 8:30:32 AM
@ emily8(R4)
That is on my shoulderblade, my ass has a tatto of a crack and an anus. (jk) 8 year-old girls should not be inquiring abount mens asses! Where are you're dolls?
My left shoulderblade to be exact.
Napalm,
Don't you notice I am not cute???? Well... Not ALLWAYS
Sigh... As I should say:
Why don't anybody understand?
I'm sure you are! (I beleive I viewed your photo in a post a while back.)
I don't know maybe I'm missing it a bit. Just seems weird. If you recall I posted a racy, but not nude photo, a while back and you made a stink of it. When I found out you were only 8 years old (I at the time had no clue 8 year olds were in this forum) I removed it and have not posted suggestive material since. Do you want to elaborate on the humor I missed somewhere?

@Hanky, your back looks like you have a family of gerbils scurrying around just under the skin....
@emily... How old are you?
@PEST OMG that is funny... Is it real? If so, you will live to regret it some day... LOL.
@LONE... Nice TAT.... Nice back too.... How is your butt?
:-)
LOL@TG, I was going to say something along the lines of that too... Misread it at first.
Very nice LoneWolf, at first it wouldn't load but that is amazing. (Nice hair, too :) )
^ It is much longer then what you see I will see what I can do about getting a photo with my hair down and not in a braid ! Be watching for my web site, I will post new pick there and send one to Paisano to add to my file he has !
@ TG

Here's the one I have, just above my outer left ankle.
Mrs. Rabban has the complementary moon tattoo in the same style. A friend gave them to us. We did it as a bonding experience as a testament to our love (since wedding rings come off) and we often joke about adding a star to our son who wants one at 6yo .
PS - I you look along the left edge of the photo, you'll see a bit of a scar on my leg from when I put my ankle in some bicycle spokes way back when. :S
