That was so funny. It's great when life provides its own little punchlines...
Just wanted to take a moment to wish our conservative friends Happy Holidays and a wonderful Winter Solstice! Peace on earth!

Have a Ramahannakwanzmas!!! < Politically correct Holiday Greating...BARF %)
Merry Christmas!!
I just read the first post.
Is anyone still confused but that the Democratic Party pushes these social programs under the guise of various lies only in order to consolidate their own power? Is Social Security not the ultimate government lie? Democrats suck.
^ Uhhh... Are you a little confused here? Which party killed over 12,000 people unprovoked? Which party approved oil drilling in ANWR? Which party is destroying the Clean Air Act? Which party is cutting budget for social programs (i.e., food banks, soup kitchens)? X/ I could go on, but I am wrapped up in a TGE problem.
Is Social Security not the ultimate government lie?
Enlighten us.
^It was created in the 30's under FDR. Now the government uses it as a bank account and has run it dry... Need I say more?
Yes, you need to say more and read more. Try starting with pages 1 -3 of this thread...

Indeed. And Chief, does the impossibility of the "bucket self-lift" also apply to "lifting oneself up by the bootstraps", as the "Honorable" Justice Thomas did?
And Happy Holidays, folks...

Last bucket I saw was the one being used for the Whitewater defense fund....though I think Bill has since lent it to Delay.
Also - I think the intended word was "jockstrap."

Anyone remember this...?
"...cuts to Medicaid, food stamps, student loans, agriculture subsidies and child support enforcement. The House measure would allow states to impose premiums and co-payments on poor Medicaid recipients for the first time."
Remember?
Look what's in the news today...
House Moves to Trim Taxes by $94.5 Billion
Huh? Is this that 'new math' I keep hearing about?
Ya know, its always really hard to determine what the government should be supplying to some at the expense of others, especially when we're talking about quality of life issues. Add to the the feeling that the government seems to have a slant towards wasting the money they do collect and it becomes more frustrating.
For instance, cutting medical benefits to the poor seems crappy, but then at least they still have some coverage. I'm totally covered through Blue Cross/Blue Shield by my employeer, but my wife and son have nothing. To add them to my policy it would be $323.01 every two week pay period. I just can't do it. Fortunately, I was able to add them to my vision and dental plan, so at least they have that. In the meantime, a friend of mine gets a $1000 prescription for $3. He also gets a monthly check for rent and food due to his schizophrenia, which was mostly likely brought on by the mass quantities of weed that he smoked while growing up (sure he may have had a leaning towards it anyway). But the thing is, he doesn't WANT to work if its inconvienent or he doesn't feel like it. Gee, that would be nice. Still, I don't want him on the streets either. Its a hard question to answer.
Sometimes I wonder if we're making it too easy to fail or too easy to succeed. I often think it still comes down to the individual and their personal disposition. In any system, there are those who need the help and those who want to abuse the system.
^ Good point. I pay over $750 a month to cover my family. Talk about making it easy to fail... :o
Do you really support our troops? Or just like yellow magnetic ribbons?

Yeeeeeeeep, that's right. It ain't over 'til the fat lady has sung...and waffles are served for all.
First up - Social Security.
I bring you the following from an email I rec'd earlier today. Slightly partisan, but I though "What the hey...what's not lately?"
SO:
Subject: Social Security
We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like
a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the
handle.--Winston Churchill
SOCIAL SECURITY:
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the
Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1.) That participation in the Program would be
completely voluntary,
2.) That the participants would only have to pay
1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into
the Program,
3.) That the money the participants elected to
put into the Program would be deductible from their
income for tax purposes each year,
4.) That the money the participants put into the
independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the
General operating fund, and therefore, would only be
used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program,
and no other Government program, and,
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees
would never be taxed as income.
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and
are now receiving a Social Security check every
month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed
on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal
government to "put away," you may be interested in
the following:
Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from
the independent "Trust" fund and put it into the
General fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the
Democratically-controlled House and Senate.
Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax
deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic Party.
Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social
Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the
"tie-breaking" deciding vote as President of the
Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S.
Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving
annuity payments to immigrants?
MY FAVORITE :
A: That's right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic
Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at
age 65, began to receive SSI Social Security
payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments
to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!
Then, after doing all this lying and thieving and
violation of the original contract (FICA), the
Democrats turn around and tell you that the
Republicans want to take your Social Security away!
And the worst part about it is, uninformed citizens
believe it!
I haven't had a chance to fact check yet - I'm sure someone will. I deleted the "pass this on" part of the email.
Well? Agree? Disagree?
