Hehe. It's so funny, but I was just thinking about it this morning, saying they've GOT to be announcing a ship date any moment now! And I get in to work and lo and behold! Woohoo!! I'm actually more exciting about Tiger than I was about Panther. Not that I'd really complain if I had to stick with 10.3 for a long time. But Tiger looks just awesome!

The biggest problem I'm having if whether I should order it from Apple, Amazon, or just pick it up at the SoHo Apple Store here in NYC on the 29th. Decisions, decisions…

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 7:40:46 AM

Actually in my past experience the software is at your door the day it's released at the store. No trip necessary.
Unless you want something else too.

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 7:51:31 AM

Yep. When I ordered Panther from Amazon it actually got here a day early :) :)

Yeah, I know, that's happened for me too. I may just go the Amazon route, since they offer a mail-in rebate which sweetens the deal even more.

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 8:01:44 AM

WOOOOOOT!!!! :)

Pre-ordered from Amazon just now!

Speaking of iChat multi user video chat, check out the latest QT movie from Apple's Tiger website:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/theater/ichat.html

Wow! Real time reflections and everything. Very cool!

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 8:45:00 AM

Hooray! I was wondering when Apple was going to do a major update. :)

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 8:52:46 AM

Pfft buying it. My uncle is a Graphic Designer who gets to try out all these really cool software, I will just use the copy his Office bought. He also got me Maya 6 !!!

Sounds like your stealing.

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 10:21:31 AM

<---- educational discount in effect, rolls plastic...

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 11:21:39 AM

Its not stealing Nap, because theyre not going to use it once its on thier Macs, Im just borrowing it to install Tiger and giving it back to them. Do you call it stealing if you borrow your friends Game then give it back, I dont think so.......... :)

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 11:55:39 AM

Just curious, what are the system requirements? And how many effects are in Core?

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 11:57:06 AM
OM

^ Yes Pedro. It's stealing, unless you plan on installing it and then promptly UN-installing it. The single user license of OS X is supposed to be used on one machine. It makes no difference if you give back the CD, whether it's a game or an operating system. You're still using the software without making a valid purchase for it.
*sigh* I'm so tired of some of the younger generation not understanding the basic concept of buying what you intend to use.

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 11:59:14 AM

I'm intrigued by the automator...

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 11:59:24 AM

I hate all of you how have enough money to buy this!!! I have been waiting for months for this to come out.
Until today my best bet was they would release the Powerbook G5 along with Tiger, but this disappoints me some. Maybe they will the day it begins shipping..... :o

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 12:12:06 PM

And.....

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 12:18:05 PM

Pedro,
You don't make an illegal copy of the game you borrow and then give it back. It's not at all the same thing.

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 12:22:53 PM

Die Mac users.

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 12:38:34 PM

NO!! Dive's in the path of gun, and saves the apple community

I've been checking everyday and alas.

April 29 is an ominous day.
- Tiger available
- Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy released in theaters near you.
- I defend my Masters thesis and the end of my educational career.

It will be a good day me thinks.

I'm with Tally, I'm getting my educational discount while I can.

@ St Jimmy - Dude that's the LINUX Penguin you fool.

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 1:26:44 PM

@Nap,
Yea but I'm friendly to BSD too. I'm not saying Mac is BAD, I'm just saying that I'm a Linux person.

Ever wonder where that bite out of the apple logo came from?

-sigh-

I remember the educational discounts - makes me want to enroll in a night class sometimes just so I can get the discount again...

This software is incredible. I am so happy I ordered it as well.........hey...What are you Window users doing in this forum..don't make me take out my IPod, and blast you back to Microsoft with the power of music!

Here's some info you may not know about us Apple users:

All Apple users are considered to in a Cult. So I guess all of us Apple users are in the Apple Cult. What shall we plan to do against the lowly Windows today?

Racer, I don't think the average Mac user has anything against Linux. In fact, in my case, I feel a sort of kinship toward the Linux crowd. After all, OS X is a *nix too, so we're both the minorities who can see that MS is not the answer. If I couldn't use the Mac OS, I'd seriously consider using Linux. Anything to avoid Winblows.
But don't go dissin' the Mac, and we won't take Tux hostage, ya see? :)

BTW, here is a good comparison page between Jaguar, Panther and Tiger:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/compare.html

Looks like the new cat comes with some very nice goodies!

^ This is true, OSX is a *nix too.

I DO use Winblows (Gasp) for my gaming, because I've ran it for many years and everything is set up how I like it. And that is the *only* reason I run Winblows at all my my system.

(PS: I killed the ugly XP Blue and Silver skins by using WindowBlinds)

You may know that Windows will also try to make something like the Tiger, but they will take so long, that the Tiger will be out, and Mac will have already made something even more powerful! Let us mourn for the ones who were taken in by the Window's dark shadow, that shackled and decepted their poor feeble minds..

Tiger is being ordered! Two months before the ultimate TT Convention iChat broadcast! WOOT! I'm really excited about tiger, a much more "bold" OS than Panther... :)

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 2:36:06 PM

Yay! MAC! XD

Lots of you were nostalgiacally remembering about the educational discounts. Did you know Apple allows parents of k-12 students to buy through them with educational discounts? Check out the education tab at apple.com and go to the education side of the apple store.

They also have homeschool pricing...

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 3:43:54 PM

@Max CR (from a long time ago)

I know its the linux penguin I'm not that stupid, I just never pass up a chance to rag on gates and the crappy software he makes (besides I love linux).

And april 29th does seem ominous...

It also happens to be the day our school goes to Kennywood for a day.....

I'm getting a Mac mini as soon as it is bundled with Tiger.

Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at 4:20:08 PM

Me getting Tiger the day it ships at the nearby CompUSA. Looking forward to using Dashboard & H.264 video and the devices/applications Apple will create to utilize the codec. Si, the Apple cult got me too.

It do.

I'm with BlindCide, I want both, but don't have the money for them seperately... So I'll get 'em together at a cheaper price!

Uh oh, I smell a lawsuit coming up... The company that makes Konfabulator could sue Apple for including software with the same basic concept as Konfabulator and putting them into bankruptcy.

On a lighter note...

Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy comes out May 6th. I know that because my birthday is May 7th.

OK, I know there are lots of school age people on PTT, and also many parents. If you go to the education part of apple's website, you can order Tiger pretty cheap! How cheap? Take a look:

Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at 10:06:27 AM

Power to the peguin!!!
also apple is ok but only because its based on unix.

Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at 10:23:29 AM

Doh! No, no, Windows and Linux are OK because they are based on DOS.

BTW, got my pre-order in for Tiger!

I think I'm mostly jazzed with the new Spotlight. But Dashboard looks cool, and Safari RSS. Gotta love the way Tiger will handle PDF's. And iSync and.Mac Sync; good grief where do I start...

{WalMart free for over 24 months!}
