Page : <1> : 2 : 3

This was first suggested as a joke in the Is TT a Sport thread, but it's actually feasible to do. Is there any interest in it? One of my other online hobbies is creating virtual cards for the now-defunct Highlander CCG, so I've had a fair amount of practice at creating card images.

The cards I have in mind would be for 'league' events only: PsychoScrum, Team Battle League, etc. Only events with a defined start and end and stats-tracking would be eligible to have cards built for it. Each participant would have their own card, listing their name (online only, not reallife), team, individual stats, team stats, and rankings.

The hardest part of the whole thing would be collecting an image to use for each person. What I'm currently considering would be have the person send me (or another 'photographer') the skin(s) they use - that way they will appear in their card with their own skin - and then go into a server with that person at an arranged time and capture images of them, then use the best image on the card.

Each person would receive a copy of their own trading card, and I could probably set up a website that would hand out a limited number of each card to requesters as well.

Thoughts anyone?

Good idea. How about Team cards? Maybe that would be less work. -RX

Sounds pretty cool! I'd be interested!

IM IN FOR SURE!

So leagues like HomeLan Scrum, Team BM, Psycoscrum ect?

Tuesday, March 09, 2004 at 2:03:38 PM

If it's a league with defined starting and ending times (seasons), and team and individual stats are kept (or can be gathered), then they'd be eligible for a line of cards. Team cards are certainly doable. Actually, what makes those harder than individual cards is getting a pic of all 3 at once. Impossible if we decide to use their personal skins (although compositing the image would work).

Sounds like a great idea TMO! Team Battlemode league would definately be into that!

TMO, this sounds like a very fun idea! I'd be into this. In fact, I'm willing to donate some graphic skills time to making some of these. For example, if you need compositing done as you mentioned above. Or even some prelim designs for the cards. Just let me know.

If I only knew how to create a custom skin...

Tuesday, March 09, 2004 at 3:17:10 PM

Well, those of you that are artists feel free to design a template. The template should contain room for all the following parts:

Player Name

Team Name

League

Primary Tank used

Player Points (kills, goals, etc) & rank

Team Points (kills, goals, etc) & rank

# of games played (for leagues with rotating membership, like PsychoScrum, 4 man teams, 3 man games)

Picture <- this should be the dominant part of the card, naturally.

Skin info (generic, Lightning Flash by Racer445, etc.)

I've started messing around with my own template as well. While all the cards from a set will have the same template design, there's no rule against using different templates for different leagues.

Ideally, all templates should be compatible with Photoshop 5.5, or at least something I can duplicate using it. ;) Depending on workload, I might also need to recruit additional artists and/or 'photographers'. Actually, I'm pretty well definitely going to need photographers.

A photographer will get a copy of whatever skin the player wants used, and go into a server with the player and take screenshots of the player using that skin, then the player and photographer will choose the image to be used on the card and submit it to whoever the artist is (me for now).

Hee hee, nice idea. This should be fun.

Guess we should work in the word "ThinkTanks " into the design. A lot of the above text is on the back side of the card. Look at card examples on the web. The front is pretty simple. Work in a nick name. Ie Sizcus is "Ben" or "Baby Prey"

PREY should be careful about what he jokes about!

True. I was going to make a generic card back for those who wanted to print theirs, but ThinkTanks on the front would be a good idea too.

BTW, some of the comments in the other thread are referring to it as a card game. That's not what I'm designing here. This is more like baseball cards than Magic.

Oh, and for those of you who want to see my card-making resume, here's some samples of the more difficult cards I have created:

Rebecca's Students Front

I've got to get the URLs for a couple of others before I can post them here.

Sounds cool.

If you have a sample template you want to submit to me, please send an email at tmo_2@yahoo.com, and I will respond with an email address to send it to. Sorry I'm too paranoid to post my home email address on a public site. Done that before and regretted it.

SAMPLE CARD:

Although I was building this for PsychoScrum, I think this template would actually be better for Team BattleMode...

I slapped together an Excel sheet to record the PsychoScrum data that had been posted online, but I'm missing a few of the early games. Do you have the data (used in your Team Stats chart)?

While I could build a webpage where captains could enter the data, I'm not sure I want to get into that role for every single league that ever forms, if that makes sense. I was willing to put that work off onto the league organizer/captains - at the end of the season they'd have to provide the stats to use on the cards. I think that it wouldn't really be much, if any, additional work beyond the amount it currently takes to keep the charts current. PsychoScrum is missing info because at the beginning, all that mattered was who won, not how many points did each person or team score.

Very... Uh... Enterprising. Definitely a... Retro... Feel to those cards. Quite a refreshing change from your ordinary graphically sophisticated card. ;)

LC50 - Sounds like a great idea TMO! Team Battlemode league would definately be into that!

Okay, you (or someone) will need to keep track of all the individual scores for each game for the Team Battlemode league. At the end of the session we'll see what Templates are available and which one you want to use. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

I like yours TMO, good job, very slick. How about adding a line for how long they've been playing TT?

I would suggest erasing (masking) the Red Player Name Text over the tanks... That would make it very easy for someone to send in a screen grab of their own tank without having to send skins to the photographer. That way all you'd have to do is just get a screen grab of some other human wearing your tank, mask the name, and call it you.

Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at 5:00:08 PM

It could be done that way. It could also just be a screenshot from the person's entry screen (the tank revolving pic). That's up to them. I would prefer not to have to mask out tank names for.. How many people have signed up for Team Battlemode again? 40-something? Masking out a name and keeping the terrain behind it can be a pain. Granted, going into servers for 40-odd people to take screenshots is a pain too, but I can probably foist that off onto volunteer photographers. XD

A line for when they started playing TT is a good idea.

One for "fo fo"... Ehh loose a lot of color depth as a gif.

Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at 6:55:52 PM

Does either league want a web interface to enter stats?? I could create a web form and captains could enter stats and get a report out. Easy to do in ASP.net...

My image of Tally... Heh!

Too funny. Got to add this to my Tally collection...

That peanut is so much more talented than that retarded banana.

Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 12:37:35 AM

Should be careful about too much emphasis on individual stats. PsychoScrum is a team league, so for that the emphasis should be on team performance. -RX

Yah, that point came up in another forum. Well, stats are easy to rearrange. Will have to consider possible variations.

Gotcha lc

Thursday, March 11, 2004 at 7:09:06 PM

Okay, so here's what we're looking at:

League Name:

Team Name:

Team Score (total):

Team Score (avg per game):

Team Score rank:

Team Score rank (for avg per game):

And then you'd be able to choose between having Individual or Team cards. If you choose to have Individual cards, they'd include the Individual's stats on them. If Team-only, it would only include the team stats.

So, LC50 - what do you think Team Battlemode would like? Team or Individual cards? I can get started collecting screenshots of the players as soon as possible that way. Hrrm. Your teams are awfully big, IIRC. I don't think there's any way I can fit all the tanks from one team in the pic. Maybe make it the captains only? Or the Team MVP only?

Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 2:06:57 PM

TMO, should we send you our own screenies of our own skins?

Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 4:25:04 PM

If you have a screenie of your skin you'd like to use, that works just fine.

Is PsychoScrum going to want a line of cards also? If so, Team or Individual cards? I'll work on another card template, as the one above I think is better for Battlemode than Scrum...

Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 5:12:50 PM

Hey TMO,

I vote for PsychoScrum Team Cards! I would prouldy display my Black Sheep card. Oh the memories...

Excellent! This oughtta be fun. Again, Team or Individual cards?

Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at 12:30:55 AM

I hate doubles.

Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at 5:09:11 AM

Both? Hmmm.... I'd have to charge you double for that... Lessee.. Times 2.. Carry the 4.. Take the log.. Invert..

Okay, the final price is $0.00 plus shipping and handling.

Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at 10:06:48 AM

Individual cards please.

Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at 2:16:08 PM

Racer - who will be my contact for HomeLAN Scrum League? The website I found appears to have 2 whole teams, each with 2-3 players, and I didn't see your name listed...

Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at 6:56:14 PM

The site is old, look on the GG forums for it.
