Just a lil hint from a retired ol war mogul.

I came across this thing. May be sumptn for the more tech savvy dudes to look into, if you want to avoid repetition of what happened (or did not happen) during last seasons schedulings... ;)

Leop, I have a map that I made a couple of months back called stonewalled. It's kind of a ruins sort of place. You may want to check it out and see if you think this would be good for TBM. I think it's a stratigic kind of map. It was made for scrum but would adapt well for TBM. There are lots of broken walls for cover, some elevated areas for sniping and a few speedpads. The spawns should be balanced too. I always set a one-two (grren-blue) when I'm adding spawns.

You may want to check it out. I have in running in my server.

@CB

Shipwrecked is not bad, however make the beach around the whole map and distribute the spawns/hills a little bit more equally

Thanxs

@ Lep

That map is already released, I will build a new Island one similar with beach all the way around but not sure when im going to havet the time. Liquor is working on some burnt out tanks and buildings for burnt out city mod but they will never make the deadline

No problem about urban we can have it occur down the line in the season, we can start out using the other ones we have to date

Thursday, March 02, 2006 at 4:15:23 PM

I took a look at some of the maps for TML6 and as much as I was impressed with the artwork, I was sometimes struck by the inadequacy for BM. It is one thing to make a strange, unusual, different kinda map and quite an other thing to make a good TBM map. The two are not mutually exclusive but you gotta be cautious. Absolute priority should be given to practicability or all your nice features and ingenuity will be wasted.

Examples:
- Dazzle's bridges map. 3 very nice looking bridges looking very real and all. But who's gonna cross them just to be trapped in a narrow corridor? I think 1 very wide bridge would have made a much more fun and playable map.
- Black forest. Many trees, and more trees and even more trees. Don't even try to go backward on that one and for some reason that map is hard on the eyes too.
- Shipwrecked2. This is such an awesome map you feel like moving there. But hills are very steep and I know some players will just won't budge from these high tops. By the same token I know who's never going to be on the beach.

One thing has to be understood. Rough terrain, sharp angles and steep hills helps the unskilled and defensive player. Though there's nothing wrong with playing more or less defensive at times, it is wrong to expect one team only to chase the other because it is always hiding. Of course both can hide, but this isn't the most fun you can have with your pants on. Therefore map designs should deter this behavior instead of encouraging it. Strategy is welcome in TBM and you don't necessarily have to fight heads on but every team needs to do it's share in making the fight happen. TBM isn't about holding real estate.

I'm afraid many of these maps aren't suitable for TBM as they are today.

But who's gonna cross them just to be trapped in a narrow corridor?

If your on the other side, me.

Some reason that map is hard on the eyes too.

Get glasses, happens when you get older

By the same token I know who's never going to be on the beach.

Thats ok if your not on the beach. The thought of you in a skimpy speedo scares me. But if you want to meet there and compare turrets......

Honestly though all good points. I have only had a glimpse of some of these. Has any take a look at spawn points? I myself prefer to have spawn points diveded up by color so you don't have the other team spawing behind you.

BTW- I am against an all euro team. I want my wiz and bedo dang it.

While I differ with Stan on some of his latter statements about play, I do agree that the maps need to be looked over carefully for playability in TBML. Most of the points he makes could be legit and make for poor games and bad playability for the league. This does not mean that they are BAD maps - just might not be just right for the league.

Perhaps they need to go onto a server for evaluation by some vets...

Thoughts?
