I would donate a ton of money if I had a credit card, but I'm only 13. :[

Sunday, August 01, 2004 at 12:39:26 PM

Is there any way to pay without a credit card?

Sunday, August 01, 2004 at 2:07:59 PM

What bak said...

Sunday, August 01, 2004 at 4:28:24 PM

Do I pull around to the next window...?

Good idea JJ, but how about a bake sale instead? I know the perfect pastry

Monday, August 02, 2004 at 1:30:56 AM

This thread is a waste of time, I would never even consider DONATING my precious money to a site, where I have restricted services, and I want other people to follow suit.

Monday, August 02, 2004 at 2:16:35 AM
MOE

@nukleuz
This fund is to set up another server for CTF & survivor to eliminate lag. You post more than most but still bitch about restricted services? If you don't like the threads..don't post. It costs money to run this!! -z- & Dan MacDoald spend their precious money & time to keep this going & you bitch about it?? XO
Whatever
I'm willing to donate $5.00 a month or a lump yearly amount to help out.
Thanks -z- & Dan

Monday, August 02, 2004 at 10:57:18 AM

What MOE said. Chalk me up for $5/mo. Or a lump $60.

Monday, August 02, 2004 at 11:08:21 AM

As MOE stated.

Nukleuz, considering how much your ignorance shows everyday, I'll point something out for you. As -z- said in another thread, Dan funded this site in the beginning by dropping a whole years total of $1,800. He did this so that we could have this forum and they were nice enough to make it on a Donation basis. Now people like you take advantage of it and post out the ass all day, making the database larger and larger, make the lag and load times longer and longer, and to compensate for that they would need another lump some to open a few more doors for bandwith. You think they should just do it for the hell of it?? Especially when they're getting the kind of appreciation that your showing from people??

I personally vote that -z- delete your account all together. Unless your one of the 13 yr old kids on here and don't have any of your own money in the first place, but if that's the case you should just shut your mouth all together.

Monday, August 02, 2004 at 1:06:10 PM

@ MOE

Couldn't have said it better myself.

I'm in for 30/mo or 360.

@ -z-

When you get a chance could you email me the address I used for the last donation? Paypal is being a pain in the ass.

Monday, August 02, 2004 at 1:29:59 PM

I've already donated, but if it's going to be on a monthly basis I'd like to hear from z or Dan McDonald exactly what they need to get another server running.

@bak You can get Paypal certified status by simply giving them the bank routing number off a check. It's all explained on the site.

Lay it on the table z and Dan

@ eLFuEgo
Here is a quote from -z-. It all depends on how many people are willing to chip in and how much. Hope this clears it up a little :P

I know lag has been getting progressively worse over this time, and it has been a major concern of mine at at the moment I have had to resort to putting PTT offline (maintenance mode) for the hour at which the CTF league is on every week just to minimise lag, and that makes all the difference.

If enough people are definately interested in chipping in to finance a separate server then I am more than willing to try and help set that up. It would mean a fair bit of extra work to get stuff like nick protection and so on linked across the servers so that those who contribute from PTT have priority access on those servers etc, and its not something I'd want to really do as a 'trial'. Also, generally its not simply a 'monthly' fee, but comes with a fixed contract of leasing it for a year (or set duration) Dan MacDonald was generous enough to take the chance that this server would pay for itself, but had donations not greatly contributed, would have been left in the lurch paying $150/month for 12 months, and thats a lot of money to cover especially as there is no 'profit' involved. Certainly not something I could afford to do.

If those who are interested/willing want to email me what you'ld be willing to contribute so that I can get an idea of the number of people interested and how much there might be available to pay for it, please do. Be realistic, what you'ld be willing to pay and I'll do the math and let you know where we stand. I know some people can afford more than others, and that some people really cant afford much but I'd rather keep it loose and based on what people can/would pay rather than proposing any particular fixed amount.

It may transpire that 100 people all say they could pay $50/yr in which case that generates way over the requirements and it can be greatly reduced, however, conversely we could fall drastically short on numbers.

Monday, August 02, 2004 at 2:01:32 PM

Ok thanks MOE. Let's get this going. Anyone interested please email z so he can get a ballpark sum of what can be contributed monthly. I have a feeling (just guessing) that the final figure would be $5/month or less if we all just make a commitment. PTT is growing so you can also expect that to be even lower in the future. Ante up!

-z-

Not sure yet Max (non paypallers etc). Will be chatting with Dan MacDonald about that to see what we can come up with.

I think a good way to keep this server well funded would be ads. You could use the good adsence program to put a small ad along the left sidebar, it would be green, and would appear to fit the site perfectly. You can customize size and content as well.
These types of ads are not intrusive, and fit with the site nicely.

Tuesday, August 03, 2004 at 2:46:11 AM

I HATE ads (not that I would see them)....but if it helps im all for it

I could give 5 bucks a month. Thats only 1 less 6 pack a month....im broke right now...

B

Tuesday, August 03, 2004 at 4:01:00 AM

5$ a month... Hmm. Kinda a bit when your income is 20$ a month. And I don't even have a bank account, so I have to get my parents to donate and then pay them.. I dunno. I could go for 20$ a year.. Sounds good. -Z-, I know.. Run ads and then have a fee per account to turn them off ;)

Does anybody know if BraveTree has a donate page? They need money too..

Tuesday, August 03, 2004 at 4:51:28 AM
-z-

Ads really dont generate all that much unless you have truckloads of unique visitors and lots of click-throughs. You generally also need to have a certain (provable) number of unique visitors/page hits per month to qualify for many of the ad sites etc. (This is all aside from the fact that a. They look ugly and b. Slow pages down.)

Tuesday, August 03, 2004 at 5:01:43 AM

Yeah, I'm against ad's. In my initial suggestion I thought about paid accounts that would give people more features, and ad's would fall under that. I like the idea of PTT Server subscribers MUCH more though. This is a free site, and I think that any changes to that would make people leave. I didn't consider the 12-15 yr old kids that don't have any money themselves to pay, and that wouldn't be to fair to them.

Tuesday, August 03, 2004 at 11:06:37 AM

I can see where a "co-op" plan may work once -z- has the second server up and running.

Donations / pledges so far (for discussion purposes annualized):

- Moe 60 (total annual)
- Blind Cide 60 (total annual)
- ElFuego 60 (or am I on crack?) 5/mo
- Vash 60 5/mo
- Timbo 180 15/mo
- Bolo 60 5/mo
- Asterisk 20
- Chief 360 (semi annually or whenever needed)
- LilAlienD (FU) 60 (total annual)
- Cat 60 (total annual)

Total so far: $980.

Not bad considering this thread's less than 48 hours old. This can work.

Once there is a P.O. Box set up I will kick some green.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

Wednesday, August 04, 2004 at 12:24:36 PM

More than halfway there....where the hell did everyone go?????

Thursday, August 05, 2004 at 9:41:47 PM

Is there a way to send cash money? I have 7 or so dollars (No allowance), and would like to send all my money to this site. Whenever I collect about 5 dollars I'll send it over. Just need a way of sending cash.
P.S. This is a 12-15 year old kid speaking, so don't expect miracles. If I get christmas money I'll send it over, this year I got 70 $ but I already spent it on this and orbz 2 and some other junk.

This is an interesting thread. I like where it is going. As the ThinkTanks universe grows, we would be interested in seeing how far we can take this. If there is enough interest, we can look into implementing a more robust 'subscription' system with servers devoted to 'subscribers', small sub groups of friends who want to subsidize a private hosted server, and even play on demand hosted dedicated servers that you can launch one time in a 'pay-to-play' way.

I am amazed at how much some of you are contributing to PlanetThinkTanks. The amounts some have donated far exceed the cost of the game itself. This is very interesting to us as the good response so far is making me think that adding in special community features and charaging a subscription to use them might not be a bad idea or an idea that would be rejected out right (so long as the services you get with a paid subscription are worth it)

Anyway, good to see people donating.. And also note that BraveTree could always use soem donations as well.

Friday, August 06, 2004 at 1:04:25 AM

You can put me down for at least $5 a month. Can't really commit to more right now, but I'll donate more if I can.

Joe: I have noticed that the donations here on PTT directly correlate to the improvements -z- makes on the site. A large spike of donations when something new comes out.

Im just wondering if bravetree started producing any of the aforementioned features into TT if the same correlation would be present..

Lately, discussions of future plans is all BT has produced...as of now it looks like -z- is the wiser investment...

Please dont interpret anything as negative...im a fan of your work

(nice donation chief...wish I had that kind of $ )

Pokemalo,
I've been thinking about/worried about the same thing too. I'm all excited about this, but A) What about BraveTree and B) What about donations to the forum??

MAYBE, even consider co-opping with -z- for the dedicated servers, OR what would be nice.... Start selling plug-ins for TT's till you release TT2.

Just an idea.

And yes people.... DONATE DONATE DONATE!! Alot of you guys use this forum EVERYDAY!!

Friday, August 06, 2004 at 11:06:39 AM

You know I have been meening to drop in here and lay out my thoughs but for some reason kept skipping over it so... Here we go
as proposed I would be all for a members type server... I would do $5 a month, or I would do a little more at $75 a year... That seems reasonable to me, I just get 4 less cases of beer a year... O well :(

There are a WHOLE lot more people playing than you think....I play someone new everyday. -z- would be the one with the stats.

Friday, August 06, 2004 at 12:35:24 PM
MOE

@ Chief
I think what Cat is saying is the lag is so bad in CTF that if anyone goes there to play they leave because it's almost unplayable. I run into that every time I play!!! People "drop in" and leave cause the lag is so bad :[ :[ :[ :[
Keep up the good work on the donation list Chief... And come on everyone...donate...lag free CTF!! If everyone does a little it will add up fast :P

Friday, August 06, 2004 at 10:02:14 PM

I can't even get in the CTF server, that nickname protection thing comes on.i tried updating profile info but nothing happens...ANY SUGGESTIONS WHY???
