Look I don't mind proper placement

I even have been known to congregate near the path to the goal in anticipation of a steal

But some tankers and u know who u are

Spawn and run immediately to the goal and park it

Not towards the scrum and not inbetween but smack dab in the middle of the goal

Com'n ppl this is such a low tactic

I watched this guy spawn 5 times in succession and run to the goal and wait

Even after I said something....it continued

SO what was an exciting contest was spoiled for me after this guy joined the fray

I left even though the score was close and I apologise to the guys I was playing with

But I dont find "shoot the camper" a fun or competetive contest

Sort of like monkey in the middle with older sibs

Sooner or later if you're smart you stop playing

Next time I bring the winnebago and the grill

Not only is it low, it's stupid. You're abandoning your teammates and a chance to shoot the scrum-carrier for a boring time waiting for someone to come to you.

Sunday, January 15, 2006 at 1:55:44 PM

Roo there is a solution

Host your own indie scrum and kick them I mean yeah they ruin the whole game

And they know they can piss people off because they know that the poeple dont know who it is

And when you do the shoot the camper your lucky to get 1 person start doing it cause everyone is mor eintersted ins coring and then thers those who decide your camping when you just spawned near the goal and ur typing and then continue the rest of the game spamming camper at you and bming you

Grr roo host a indie server :)

Or somebody do :)

With a pass so no demos can get in

Two goals will solve this in a second.

I am tired and need a break

I'll cya on the flip

If I play a pickup game again after vacation it will be a surprise to me

Friday nites and Saturday mornings with my UF buds - yes

And league games are awesome fun - yes

Pickup games are unorganized chaos

Either peeps dont play teams and leeroy or they camp like yogi bear

Enuff!!!

Lol, he's absolutely right, unless you have more than one camper. Then again, there was that old mod (Whos was it? I've forgotten :P ) where you died if you stayed in the goal area for more than 10 seconds. They should bring that back! XD

Sunday, January 15, 2006 at 2:51:45 PM

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Someone guarding the goal can be critical to the outcome of a game. If everybody goes charging at the person with the flag, the runner could easily get past them and score. But with a camper it is more challenging. And if you say that smart people don't camp consider this: if you were smart you would help out your team and clear the goal. Also the campers usually get shot.

Monica, let me compare the camper to a kicker in football: Some people say they do nothing dont help, etc. But they can decide the game.

Sunday, January 15, 2006 at 3:02:57 PM

Well when they settle in and order pizza its just not the same game

Win or lose I am for the thrill of competition

Theres just nothing quite like the feeling u get after manuvering around 3 opponents

Sliding off the arrow and finding a tenent charging a toll

Oh well everyone to their own notions as the old lady said when she kissed the cow

I hate campers, but no matter what you do they are still going to be there. So now I use them for an advantage to myself. Practice some moves to get around people and into the goal. Someone in the goal is one less person to shoot me when I'm bringing the ball in for a score. As long as you can maneuver around the camper it is a great advantge to other players.

Sunday, January 15, 2006 at 4:55:27 PM

But wot if some people at some point HAVE to camp...let me explain...

Lets say someone cut thier middle finger which they use to go forward...and they really wanted to play TT....camping would be the only solution other wise he cant do anything else and therfore be a wasted space. I think in that case it wouldnt be too bad...what do u think?

Lol but then he wouldnt play so good and again be a wasted member of the team...

Sunday, January 15, 2006 at 5:21:42 PM

Id say being a camper is a wasted member

I love my randylion

Sunday, January 15, 2006 at 5:23:48 PM

But if you can't do anything else.....then what would you suggest..?

Sunday, January 15, 2006 at 5:34:21 PM

@ Roo
Hear ya buddy. Just start diving, that's what I'm going to do...

I play alot in the "common" scrum games where campers thrive. I've almost come to enjoy having them there. The goals are that much tastier. However, one must be pretty sad and pathetic to actally enjoy the act of camping.

Sunday, January 15, 2006 at 7:14:00 PM

This debate has been going on since the beginning of time.

In team games, anything goes except diving, cliffhanging, and teamkilling, which are pretty universally poo-pooed. Camping is ok in team scrum. Smart teams have no trouble at all getting around campers, and if you're playing against a good team, camping is probably hurting your team.

In indie servers, I despise campers. Camping completely ruins a good game. It ruins those long runs when you get the scrum swiped by someone who was to lazy to go get it in the first place.

Even worse are the "lurkers". These are campers in disguise. These are typically better players who will go out of their way to stay out of the action or pick up the scrum, usually staying between the scrum and the goal but not actually appearing to camp. They will only chase or grab the scrum when it is far away from the goal, but they prefer to keep full health, lurk near the goal, and wait for their mules...errr....other players to deliver the scrum to them and take it and score. Is this really a satisfying way to play? Is it fun or exciting? Is it fair? I say it is not satisfying, fun, or fair.

I don't care what is going on in the game, if you are camping or lurking, I will stop what I am doing and bm you for the rest of the game or however long it takes for you to stop it. I do not tolerate this behavior. I want good games with long runs, spectacular moves, and good sprtsmanship and I am willing to fight for them. I have been on this crusade for as long as I can remember, and originally, I got a lot of support, but the number of idiots is increasing and the number of decent players who won't stoop to these tactics is dwindling.

I actually find "ass-blastey" (as I like to call it) is all the rage right now. No camping...they just wait for you 'till you get close, watch you drive by, and then...BLAM! I like to "reposition the scrum" to fight this. Hit reverse, and leave the scrum in an obscure spot, a good distance away from the goal. Let them run it in...see if they like "ass-blastey."

I find this technique to be quite effective, and I only use it in the right circumstances. I especially like it when people yell at me when I employ this tactic - I didn't dive or bm; I simply moved the scrum. It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside :P

Don't you just wanna run up to the campers and give them a big hug?

"aaaaw, there there! It'll all be ok"

Wal

An old topic to say the least. Yes, it's lowly (and I assume, dull). Enough campers, I leave.

I guess I gave up trying to deal with it long ago. The amount of time I get to play on average is far too short to waste with camping.

Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 12:09:18 PM

Camping defeats the purpose of Scrum. Makes it less interesting, boring. Scrum is supposed to be getting the scrum and running it to the goal against impossible odds. Instead Campers take the easy way out. Sorta like a cheap shot like spawn killing. That's what I think of Camping. Guarding is important but it's not the same as camping. B)

Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 12:53:57 PM

Plan A:
1 - Grab the Ball
2- Run in the direction opposite the camper
3- Dive

Plan B:
1- Outcamp the Camper and own the goal

Plan C
1- Don't pull a Leeroy when there's an enemy camper

Plan D
1- Wait for a wingman to clear/block the Goal

Plan E
1- Go reload Ammos

Plan F
1- Leave game,
2- Come to PTT and spam

Plan G
1- Shoot the Camper

Etc. XD

I actually enjoy games with campers... Get a kick out of taking the scrumball into goal against the odds and against a big bunch of players camping away.

...that DON'T mean I sympathise with people who sit at goal all game though. It is a valid tactic at the right time (as is bming et al) but people who do it because they get a kick out of pissing people off deserve to be thrown off a bridge because unfortunately it works.

This topic IS old and I have told my opinions on this many many times so im going to wheesht and let you all get on with it

@Roo: your post is valid. Not the first time someone post to complain about campers. All good. I hope you took my post with humour - that was the intent. :)
We all hate campers - but there are many ways around them. I fear much more the well-round peeps -> those who can BOTH camp and run! :'(

Me personally? I hate camping period. I really don't care which mode you're talking about. I too would rather leave a game then put up w/it. I don't run "indie" servers, but would impliment the "kick" method everytime it happened. I know that most peeps accept it in TS, so I would just leave, if it were being used heavily. I mean come on! I remember once coming around the corner w/the scrum and seeing 4 or 5 indies there waiting, and these were vets! This happened in TS. Bahhhh! I've heard the argument about having a "goalie", but why so many?! I'm thinking seriously about doing "something" about that someday. ;)
