Now that the draft is almost done, it's time to look ahead to the start of the season!

Updated Team Rosters
Please look this over and check for errors. Also please submit your team names ASAP. Captains should be contacting all their team members to check in and make sure all folks who appear on the roster are truly in for the season. Several folks are missing in action - if there is any update on them please post.

Game Schedule

The first game of the season starts on Wednesday 1/5/05 at 7 pm PST. The schedule is 14 weeks long. This allows each team to play every other team twice: once at Home and once Away! Each team will have two Bye weeks.

Team Schedules

Please look this over for errors and make sure your team's schedule matches the master schedule above.

Home Fields

Each team will select a Home Field Map. The Home Field will be chosen from one of the 12 PSL Approved MonkeeMod maps (see below). You will play all of your Home games on your Home Field. In addition, each team playing on their Home Field should also host that game if possible. That way any 'advantage' to hosting one's own game will even out over the season. Does every team have someone who can host? Select the map you want. Priority will go in reverse draft order if there is a conflict.

PSL8 Approved Maps Released 12/30/04 12:30 am!

This season will be played on 7 maps. They need to be chosen from a set of 12 PSL Approved Maps. This set of 12 maps has been assembled into one convenient package called the PSL8_Map_PackŪ (thanks MonkeeMan!).

The PSL8_Map_PackŪ is now available with detailed instructions here !! It contains the 12 PSL8 maps and will allow you to easily serve up the full rotation or individual maps.

PSL8 Official Home Fields

Delicious high-resolution screenies of all these maps can be viewed here .

Out Of Bounds Script

Game Hosters Only: Here is Slugthog's Out of Bounds script which we have used in past PsychoScrum seasons. Please make sure you install this script for league games! It is called "Antidiver.cs.dso". Despite the name, this script only affects the position of the scrum spawn after it goes out of bounds (i.e. Over the edge of a cliff) for any reason. It causes the scrum to spawn at the center of all alive players. It does not change where your tank will spawn or your health or ammo or anything else.

OutOfBounds Script

Installation:

Unzip the file and place the Antidiver.cs.dso file in the Contents/Resources/Game/Server/Scripts folder of the TT application you are using to host. Then add the following line to the end of your main.cs file:

Exec("game/server/scripts/Antidiver.cs");

Looks good. Will you need my scoreboard again for this season, or do you have that taken care of?

Pimp-a-riffic! The pimp cane will keep da Ho in line. :P

Is there any way I can run these maps on my own computer using the Create Game option within TT? Or do I have to learn how to operate the full Hosting to do so? It's not a problem to do so, just a pain.

Tuesday, December 28, 2004 at 9:29:04 PM

@TMO: Yes, you will be able to do it rather easily. The only limitation is that you can only serve up 1 map at a time (not a problem for PSL games).

MM will be releasing a new missions folder. I would suggest that everyone hosting (whether a dedicated server or one started with the Create button) make a duplicate copy of the TT application for PSL hosting. That way you can simply replace the whole missions folder with the new PSL one. The reason for this is that the MonkeeMod mission files will have the exact same name as the normal maps (e.g. TT1_1.mis, TT1_2.mis etc.). By having a duplicate copy of TT named say "ThinkTanksPSL" you can keep everything separate from your normal TT application.

I noticed this thread is call Preseason mode ! Are we going to start another thread one once leagues starts or we going to just use this one ? B)

Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 4:12:50 AM

We are the "Scrum Society" same as last league. Please adjust your records accordingly. Thank you for your assistance in this matter. :)

Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 7:28:09 AM

Will do.

Lonewolf: The preseason Mode is just to tighten everything up before the season begins. Like rosters, homefields, map distribution to hosters, etc. Now is the time for captains to contact everyone on your teams so we can and make sure all the communication channels are open. I have already uncovered one MIA player. We need to be picking Home Fields too. There will be a new thread at the season start.

Great job Tal! Thanks RX and MM too!

We need the.mis files! Baaa seems to me like the Sheep and Bo's squad have an advantage here without that being distributed yet. You can't really expect everyone to necessarily have a HF pick without the ability to see the maps in real time at their leisure.

What would be real swell would be a server rotating the 12 at say a 3 or 4 min interval so teammates can see the landscapes in a real comparative scenario. Perhaps the more industrious caps might consider that.

Just wondering what exactly the green rings are on the overheads? Spawns? Goals? Both? Sorry if I'm late in the game here. It's just need to know stuff. Geez I hope they're not goal spawns that would diminish what home field is about sort of.

Woot errr Woof! :)

Az

Lol PS one mo thing. I would have maybe thrown up a few stock maps and not so many MM Lushies. Some players that don't really play evenings don't get a chance to play on RX's server ever. Just a thought.

Happy New Year!

@ RX
Thanks for the info ! Just like last year though the Wolf Pack is ready to tan some tank hides ! :P

@ Wolf Pack
Once again thank you all for keeping your Captain up todate ! B)

Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 11:09:39 AM

Hey Az,

Agreed! The success of all this depends on the release of the.mis file pack. MM assures me this is happening. Should be out tonight. This will allow many of us to host this set of 12 maps. Great idea about faster cycle time for just cruising around. Anyone know an easy way to do this?

I know you can use the "cyclegame();" command in the Terminal to advance to the next map. If you use that command, beware that it will throw off the game clock until you restart your server. An effective tool though for some occasions. (Don't use for league games though - we tried it once last season to restart the game and then the next game was only two minutes long!).

So the green rings are showing not only the goals, but where both green and blue players spawn. That's why there are sometimes 3 "goals" clustered together. Only one is a true goal. The others are player spawn points as I understand it.

We need to get several servers with this rotation up!!! I will make sure the Pack comes out tonight!!

Ok then RX TY! The rings make more sense now.

Again thanks for all the work guys.

Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 11:23:52 AM

If the mod pack is out tonight, I will have a server up and running for everyone to evaluate the maps. If someone does figure out a way to shorten the game time, I will incorporate that into the server as well.

It most likely would be called P.S. 8 Evaluation Server or something to that effect.

E-mails sent out to remaining MIA players: supra & ACA (via addresses listed in their profiles).

Anyone else MIA? Let's make sure everyone is 'checked in' before the season starts.

EDIT: Just got an e-mail --> supra is in!

I have sent emails to all my gents. The following have yet to reply: getsome, Oddball, Hercules.
I am pretty sure getsome and Herc are in, but I would feel better if they replied to me (as requested in the email).
Oddball...you out there?

Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 12:44:02 PM

A little more clarification of the "green rings." These are ALL the spawn/goal locations. The code in TT is set up so that every "goal" is specified as either a green player spawn point OR a blue player spawn point. I always put opposing team spawn points in very close proximity to each other or directly on top of each other on my maps. This explains the clusters of goals. This reduces the chances of only one team "goal spawning" during a tough scrum match, but can increase the amount of times a goal shows up in a given area.

As for the release of the maps. I will have the set ready to go tonight. I will probably send a copy to RX to try first to double check everything is in correct working order and a copy to Ho to help make sure that the installation is easily understood. ;)

Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 2:44:21 PM

Yup, sent Reagent X an email.

Wednesday, December 29, 2004 at 3:08:03 PM

X, I believe mm can host on our team if need be

Aca is mia as far as I know. I think the rest of the players are in....but I dont have my last pick yet

I think sluggy used to host some 10 minute games...i wonder if he could provide the method of doing a 3 minute game for the map cycles?

Im sure that one of the server dso's has something in it to do with the game time...i would take a while to figure out...i suggest asking laggy if nobody else knows.

Seems I recall stumbling across the timing function once. Perhaps I'll take a look once I have the map pack completed tonight.

And yes, I can host if need be.

Good Luck all. Test it out and let's see how it goes.

I e-mailed Sluggy about the timer thing.

IIRC, Game Time is set with a pref like so (time in seconds):

$Game::Duration = 900;

@Monkee: FYI, On spawn points. The team color of the spawn point is ignored in scrum, so you needn't worry about clustering them to get fair spawns. That only comes into play in team battlemode when you don't want to spawn in enemy territory.

Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 1:06:07 AM

Wow couldn't be easier 56k!

Just enter that command in the Terminal after you start your server! Then all games will be that amount of time. Thanks!

EDIT: Also, Sluggy says you can add 56k's line at the end of the main.cs file.

EDIT#2: 3 minutes is 180 seconds! Thus you can use the following:

$Game::Duration = 180;

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

Fp, we need your email, foo.
( the current one ))

Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 10:40:17 AM

I have the danceHall set up rotating the 12 maps on a 3 minute interval. The password is last seasons game password. If your new this season just ask your captains. If any teams would like to reserve the danceHall for a reception, please email me and I will change the pass for you.

FYI: To change my games duration I actually placed 56k's "$Game::Duration = 900; " in my main.cs in my dash folder. Not sure if that's a linux thing or a dash code thing, or a Nutty thing.

NUTS! :P

Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 11:05:47 AM

Ah 56, thanks! That's good to know. Although I have a question. I set up a map a while back to test the spawn points of teams in scrum. I had only two spawn points specified (one for green and one for blue). I repeatedly killed myself and always respawned in the one goal and never in the other. Was this purely a coincidence then?

Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 1:46:31 PM

1. The quick server is up. Everyone run through the maps; no excuses for ignoramus when its time to pick.
which is now.
send me your selection dar/kj whenever you can. While waiting, captains, consult with whomever you consult with and make a list so you are ready when it is your turn.
2. What was 2...
o ok, 2: toss-up on the remaining draft picks. If you want one, email or post here. First come / first serve.

I have a quick Scrum rotation server in place. I tried 5 minutes today but I didn't feel it was long enough to really get a feel for the terrain.
I have Nap's 7 min Scrum rotation in place ready to go.

I also have the two minute abs server which will help with that always expanding waistline. (LOL)

Please let me know if there are any problems. Thats!
