Linux pwnz0rz. It's more customizable, so I guess, like Konfabulator, it's "whatever you want it to be". You just gotta type "make config". The only problem with it is incompatibility. My Belkin driver (not to mention iTunes) is Linux-incompatible, so I guess I'm stuck with XP. :( But I'm recompiling my kernel with NTFS support to get the project finished faster.

Are we talking about computers or operating systems?

The MAC and the PC are kinds of "computers" and "MAC OS X", "MS Windows XP" and "UNIX Linux" are operating environments running within an operating system.

If we are talking about operating environments, which is the antiquated but real term for the actual Graphical User Interfaces that we use to interact with modern computers then....the MAC is superior. Because all computers us the MAC GUI.

The Graphical User Interfaces or GUI was developed my Apple for the Apple Macintosh computer in 1985.
You know this little icons and colorful folders and stuff.
The rest followed suit. Therefore if you like windows XP or linux then, really it is the Macintosh OS GUI you like. Because they just made theirs look like the MAC twenty years ago.

If we are talking about operating systems then clearly Unix is above and beyond. The DOS based windows OS is hopeless, and MAC uses the Unix based OS already.

If we are talking about hardware, that is alot more complicated. Processors, graphic cards, hard drives, memory chips, etc. Because Linux uses the same PC technology as Windows. And soon Apple will be too.

Then you have all the different makers, like Dell, HP, IBM, Sony etc. Within these makers are huge variances of quality.

So... In short, what are you all comparing?
Speed? Quality? Software? Ease of use? Interface? Style? Dependability? Customer service? What?

Are their differences subjective?

I think to simply say one OS is better then the other is ignorant, because it doesn't work that way. Linux, Mac, Unix, Windows, Solaris, they all serve different purposes.

The OS you go with should be dependant on what you plan of using it for.

Is you're serious about gaming, and use a wide range of programs, you obviously want to go with Windows because it's most compatable.

I don't know shit about Linux. But like everything else, I am sure it kicks ass in certain spots.

It's really hard to put a spot on Mac. I think it's a combination of everything. It works for the two-bit-soccer-mom who wants to use a digitally catalog her sons life with programs like iDvD, iMovies, iTunes, iSync, and all the other stupid software they're making. It's got great developer tools like xCode which allow you to program in Cocoa and Darwin, and probably owns VB as far as the SKD is laid out, it's also free(preinstalled). OS X aslo has alot of little-shit you never hear about, it comes installed with an Apache Server with the a PHP Module already installed. Bonjour, Jabber, and iChat, Pico-Editor for the terminal; which kicks ass, obviously GarageBand, stuff like that. And it's obviously great for multi-everything. Less compatible then Windows, but more compatible then Linux. Comes at a big price, though.

Linux is good for gaming. It's not a very cluttered OS, so that means less lag.

Pc's for tech and macs dont have much tech devoloped in there comps... PC' S rock. Macs suck!

Macs do not break down easier than WinBlowze XP. My Mac has never broken down and my friend with his WinBlowze XP always breaks or he needs to reformat his WinBlowze.

My ultimate wish list comp? Tricked out Dual 2.5 G5 w/ 8 gigs ram, 30 inch plasma screen, 1024GB HD. Basically I would always spring for a mac because you can put any operating system you want on it. Don't believe me? You can run Linux parallel to OSX, and Microsoft convieniently puts out a program that runs XP on PowerPC chips (Virtual PC)!!!

Couldn't be any more right about that DJ. Found this nice little site that might be useful to those of you who don't want to spend 300 bucks on the 360 just to get Halo 3. Only 39.95 compared to the box (for those of you pre schoolers, 300 - 40 = 260 dollars left over for games), basically you import your games, get an emulator off of Emulator Zone, and run it!

And Pedro's right, Mac OS X don't crash nearly as often as Windoze does. Neither does Linux. If an app crashes, it nicely pops up a little dialog box saying "Audacity has crashed, yada yada yada" and that's the end of it. I attribute it all to Unix. ;)
Speaking of Unix, keep in mind there aren't NEARLY as many viruses for Unix-based OSes (OS X, Linux) as for Windoze. ;)

Has anybody with a well kept MAC ever had OSX breakdown? Is it even possible with the UNIX kernel?
I have run entire computer labs with MAC machines and since the OSX none of the 20 machines have ever ever ever crashed nor have I ever in my life had to reformat a MAC except when the IBM Hard drives becomes corrupt.

There are no Viruses for the MAC OS, so the mere fact that you have to constantly battle the viral attacks on MS WindowsXP, which will lead to reformatting, is the biggest reason that MS WindowsXP is a pain in the ass to deal with..and for what? For a few more games? I seriously doubt that "most people" use the kinds of applications that are PC only and there is no equivalent for MAC OSX.

To say MS WIndowsXP is more reliable than MAC says nothing about the machines that MS WIndowsXP is installed on either. If not for DELL the PC market in the educational sector would be nothing... Zero... Ziltch. DELL is the only PC manufacturer that even comes close to Apple quality and costumer service. When I buy a PC, I buy a DELL and no others. (Although Sony is improving).

So...

In short.
The Apple Macintosh is a much higher Quality Machine and that is why it has always cost more, not to mention aesthetic quality of the designs themselves.
The MAX OS was designed not to crash and it doesn't.
If by any chance anything should go wrong with your Apple Macintosh machine itself you can have it repaired for free or a $315 flat rate if your warranty has ended.

So (?ƒ?1)?ool, before you go yapping about what you clearly have not a clue, perhaps you should consider being a bit more consumer savvy.

...and you like the way the MS WindowsXP interface looks just remember that apple created that GUI in 1985.

Like I said, UNIX-based OSes can have crashes, but the results never cause a breakdown. Just a cute lil' dialog box.
