I remeber when I was new to modding... Had no idea how to do things that are so simple and didn't know what most of the things meant in the modding resource.
I started scripting at 11, being a kid isn't a big excuse for me. Its possible for an 11 year old to reverse engineer a game and produce scripts without help. I'm just tired of all the questions being posted, they say the same thing over and over and over...

^ ditto!!!!!!!
man! I was introduced to TT by the torque bible, also known as "3D game programming all in one" by kenneth C. Finny
the first day I figured out how to host a server as a demo!
and the rest falls into place.... I became a scriptor... Sorta...yadda yadda yadda
although it isnt as impressive to say I had help from a book compared to Ishbuu |Bot|'s statement, we both have our weaknesses and strong points (as found out trying to script survivor)
all we need is the rounds to restart right and we're done!
Well Ishbuu you are the exception to the norm
Kudos sir!
But most kids are impatient and deserve the consideration of those that know better
If the questions bother you - then point them back to do more research
Giving no answer is better than giving sarcasm
just my 2cents
Ah stop picking on the kids Rooster ! You Big Old Meanie ! :P
You know, I need to make a modified version of the modding forums page that has a direct link to the modding resource. Nice big button. :)
You know what we REALLY need, is a form e-mail service that, get this, e-mails their question to all of the 'experianced' modders (Art, Ish, Warfare and myself) and any one of us can reply! Good idea? I could create it...
Can't argue with that rooster.
Personally, I just decided one day it was not my responsibility to answer every question... Or any question for that matter.
But lately many of the question are not in my area. They are questions about TGE and map making or scripting, areas I never got into, so I am not very helpful.
The problem with the MR is that noobs (some semi noobs) never actually read the 1st section "START HERE. THE BASICS SECTION. A MUST READ "
If only they would read it then they could begin to have a broader understanding of how the game works.
But they don't!
So some have a very limited and narrow understanding of the game, therefor they only ask questions about things that interrupt that narrow understanding.
They are piecing tiny bits together into a tapestry of chaos with absolutely no understanding of the connections between files and lines of code.
Sometimes I see that they have spent enormous amounts of time rediscovering stuff, that with just a simple pass over the documents in the Basics Section, they would have seen it.
Sometimes those with knowledge fail to teach because they pass on the information without forcing the learner to think.
Too often I see stuff (codes, etc) being handed around and people not knowing where to put it. Which seem bass-ackwards
ex. Weasel
needs to know how to get power-ups to shoot fast and be unlimited but knows how to do it with bullets but not power ups.
One would assume with such an advanced question that he/she knew what they were doing.
Yet it turns out that he/she does not yet even know where to make these changes or where to put the code.
How did they ever get to this point without ever looking at the Basics Section of the MR?
Did they just piece fragment together?
Did they actually waste hours to reverse engineer the game thus far and only got stuck at this point?
If we are in agreement that the MR is where noobs should start then why does it seem like they don't actually start there but only are referred there after we are sick of answering their redundant questions.
It's not about knowing more than them, it's about them knowing what you know. Be patient and be tough, but most of all make them think.

All of the 'experience' modders (Art, Ish, Warfare and myself)
So Chilled, you think you guys are the only one's with experience? There are few modders around here that have more experience than you.

^^^ modders needs to be changed to scriptors.
In that statement...
All of the 'experience' scriptors (Art, Ish, Warfare and myself)
I've been around forever. I watched modding grow. I fed the fire a lot. I think modding would have done better if it stayed a dark art with all secrets being withheld from the common "wannabe" modder now. What max said is right: because modding WAS worshiped as an art and it WAS popular because it was different, people wanted to do it. As people didn't decode everything themselves because people told them, a full understanding of modding became more and more rare. Now there are only some people who know alll of it, and I assume we're all tired of awnsering the same questions over and over. Most n00bs reject us when we say start from the beginning. I've been doing this for longer than most of you have been modding, and I've seen it over and over.
To all the noobs: Start from the beginning, we did

@Rooster, nah, I wasn't implying that, those were the ones that immedietly came to mind. Any scriptor that wants to be part of "Ask a Scriptor", e-mail me. :)
Me I guess, but only if they start at the beginning :'(

I agree with many of the veteran scripters and modders
The questions being asked are repetitive. Even noobish and unneccessary.
After all the information is in the Modding Resource
But plz take the time to consider who you are helping (or not helping)
In many instances the ppl asking these questions are kids - you know "impatient hormone factories wearing sneakers"
Encourage them? - yes
Point them back to do their own research? - yes
Give them hints until they realize the solution - yes
Berate them? And show scorn and sarcasm? -no!!!
Verbal jabs are unproductive and meanspirited!
Say something nice or say nothing!
