The pope is dead!!!! He died at 2:37 p.m. EST today. The story is only on yahoo.com (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=514&e=1&u=/ap/pope). This is a sad day.

The announcement came from papal spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls and was distributed to journalists via e-mail.
"The Holy Father died this evening at 9:37 p.m. (2:37 p.m. EST) in his private apartment. All the procedures outlined in the apostolic Constitution `Universi Dominici Gregis' that was written by John Paul II on Feb. 22, 1996, have been put in motion."

Proud, this is not a time to be disrespectful. There is no laughing matter about the pope being dead. I'm not even a catholic and I am saddened by this event. But surely a man of the popes own church should at least show a little respect at the death of the holy father.
