I'm by no means a great player in scrum, adequate but that's about it. I have little advice to offer. I’m happy with my two, maybe three goals per map while the really good player get 7, 9, even 10. You know who I’m talking about.

But I have started to observe some of these players and I noticed something. Sure they are great shots, can maneuver their tanks, know the maps etc., but they have one thing more: Patience.

Now I tend to charge into everything, every situation, every dogpile and my finger is always on forward key. Of course, being in the middle of things, even if it means certain death, is fun. What watching the great scrummers like Scottie, dlael, LGM, Cloud, Napalm and many others is that it pays to hold back sometimes, watch, shoot from a stationary position, wait for opportunity, get positioned. They stay calm and take their time when faced with a camper or are getting charged. The great scrummers use their brakes!

Does anyone agree? Any advice for the moderately skilled players like me? Is this something that develops over time and one gets more confident?

1. Patience I don't like- I let my guns do the talking :)
2. Try not to hold the scrum too often if you're away from the goal because people will kill you and you'll spawn farther from the goal
3. Backup when getting charged at (them brakes) and turn sideways to go around people
4. Driving backwards is essential for shooting people while you drive.
5. If you can shoot very accurately then you've got this in the bag. - In other words, your BM skills need to be far better than your actual dodging capabilites.
6. Using bounce pads and speed pads and "ramp" rocks help (ramp rocks are the rocks that when you ram on them you usually bounce)

Just some tips from me.

Patience and stuff help in scoring but the only reason you play a game is one:- to have FUN !

Pug-

You're probably better than you're giving yourself credit for; at least in the games I've seen.

I agree that what you describe is probably the optimal tactic, but try to play that way and some clod is going to see you not moving and scream "Camper!" Then you get some unwanted battlemode action. I guess the really good players rack up enough points that they get immunity of a sort from that nonsense. Although I'm sure we could all name at least one certain player who regularly scores double digits by parking inside the freakin' goal - then bragging about his "domination."

The thing that has improved my game the most, honestly, is not playing fullscreen, which on my computer means most of the chat gets obscured. I don't get as distracted by fools flaming each other or trading e-mail addresses or cake recipes or whatever. I guess if I happen to score and somebody says "n1," I don't see it and then I come off like a jerk. Luckily I don't score that often.... XD

It is a lot of fun to get in the middle of it. So like Disturbance said, maybe that's the reason to be playing in the first place.
