KC

I've often wondered how all you folks discovered this game and this forum.
Well then, let's share XD

Me, I first discovered/played TT demo through Shockwave.com around August, 2003. I then followed it's path to Garage Games where I could finally play a "full screen" demo version. I also tinkered w/Real Arcade's demo as well. There, I could actually play 1hr of "full version" in there demo. Well, I bounced around like that for about a year or so, until I bought the full version from Real Arcade. I was clueless on launching my own dedicated server though, so I re-purchased TT through GG in November 2004, who had all those lovely shortcuts for the start up menu. Not long before this "second" purchase, I found PTT, but don't remember how now. Been too long. I did my reading in the :Dedicated Server" help in PTT and that's how I discovered that GG had the best set up for launching dedicated servers for noobs. Anyway, I'm here and so are you. So tell us how you got here.

KC :)

Well, unlike most of you, I downloaded the Shockwave demo. It's a 60-minute free trial of the fully featured game. I was instantly addicted and I think I might have even bought it before the trial ended :P.

So sadly, I never had the experience of having DEMO in my name.

Yea same here!^^ well not exactly. My mom is a member of Real One and she pays $20 a month fer a free game. Well I installed TT and began to play. Then I was so excited about the online games that I tempted my mom to buy it with the free offer. Only when I bought I went into TT and played servers other than SW. Then I met THEUFOMAN(mi) and he saw I was good. He asked me if I wanted to be in mi and I accepted. It took me awhile to know how to join an army. I thought u had to submit a form or somethin. I met LONEWOLF and he told me about ptt. Then I got on ptt. OF course I dont remember every detail.
I left out a few notes.
I learned about speed changes and soon tried to do it and made a mistake. SO I couldn't launch TT anymore and bought it from GG. Now I play that version on my laptop.

I tried the online demo at Shockwave.com around May 2003 and was hooked on it. I downloaded the shockwave demo and played until that ran out, then I followed the link to GG and used their demo. Finally in July of 2003 I forked over 20 clams for the game and have been playing my GG game copy ever since.

I remember the ThinkTanks Mania site. IMO I liked it better. I followed the original link to PTT from the GG forums.

I actually found GG first, downloaded the demo that let you play for a while and "kicked you" to display a "buy the game NOW" making you re-enter the game. Those were the medium tank days.

This was first in June/July 2003. I purchased in August of that year.

I saw that my dad downloaded some games from Apple.com and I tried TT.

Then I loved it and begged for it ;)

Then I heard about PTT about April 2004... Its was from demolition.

Or maybe the Brain (SA)....

Well.... 4-5 years ago I did a google search on, "war,","tanks," and it brought me to a page displaying thinktanks.

I played the demo for a month under the name RAIKU till I bought it, then went as freak, later retiring from the game because my computer broke down and I forgot about think tanks.

2 years later I saw a page dedicated to thinktanks and thought to myself,"I've played this before," so I got the demo pack and the page had a link here. Later getting the full pack, here I am today.

Jay

Well it all started about a year ago when I typed in google "Online Mac free games" or something and that let me to lots of sites where I found TT...i downloaded the DEMO and played as that for a while....then I just forgot about TT until just less than a year later when I was really bored one day and did another search for online games etc....remembered TT and played under the name DEMO(*Jay*). Sorry if I annoyed anyone lol its just I must have gone into a MOD server some how and ther person there turned me into a light and a UFO. So I naturally thought every server could do that, so I kept asking people if they were admin so I could be a light :P Finally someone told me the trick way of getting a light in DEMO mode. So when I started out I used to camp, like everyone does.....And I thought it was a great idea as noone else was doing it lol After a few people shouting at me...Someone told me that "You have to earn the goal" or something....i cant remember who it was but lol.....after a few months I got told I should buy the game and I remember I beat 3 people who had bought the game in Scrum....so I was pretty happy with that lol. I finally got my dad to buy the game and the rest as they say.. Is history lol

In February 2004 I did a search for battlezone tank game, the old classic video arcade game and stumbled across ThinkTanks. I was also searching for free shockwave games for pai Jr who was 5 at the time.
After trying the demo I was hooked!!! Started with battlemode and then quickly fell for scrum.

I got a new mac at work, and it had MarbleBlast on it. I noticed an ad for GarageGames after that, and was interested in a new networked tank game. (I was a long time Bolo player in the 90s. My name comes from that game.)

I went to GarageGames and downloaded the demo. I loved it, but since I'm cheap, I didn't buy it for a while. Eventually I got tired of the demo limits and bought TT. Great deal.

A friend gave me a duplicate copy of tt on a disk for a birthday present...and now I'm hooked :P

I can't quite remember but I think that same friend told me about ptt and I originally registered as Spirit in September of 2004

@ Spirit (VT)maj, diddent you know thats illegal?

My bro and I fiddled around in SW games for more than a year--then finally found this new game called "ThinkTanks." I didn't think our comp had the system requirements, so I ignored it. The next thing I knew, he was playing the game--then buying the demo--and using the entire hour up! :P Then I saw the PTT CTF server, where I saw Lone, Cat, and others that I forget playing CTF. I was hooked and wanted to make a CTF server on my own.
I went to a server including BIG_PAPA and someone else. I told them about my problem and they asked whether I had dash codes. They told me the websites to get them--thinktanks.jkdg.com and planetthinktanks.com. I went to jkdg first, I think. I got the codes, but didn't know what to do with them. Then I saw PTT and the forums that I couldn't post on yet. :P Still no luck.
So I made this server--Lone, T-Bone, and UFO1 probably remember it-- called I NEED YOUR HELP LONEWOLF!!!! T-Bone and UFO1 came in and said a little. UFO1 told me what dedicated servers were and to go to PlanetThinkTanks > Forums > Modding "or whatever." I finally found the script, and my bro helped me install it and find ModWizard. ModWizard didn't work at first, but it finally did, and we both made tons of maps.
Over the summer I got Madden 2004, and sort of forgot about TT. Then one day, in August or something, I saw my bro playing TT again. I thought, what the heck, maybe it will be worthwhile. I started modding and using the med tank--and the rest is history.

^^ no...if it is illegal its my friends fault for duplicating the game in the first place

Early july I think. I said what the hell, why not try the demo. Im not into internet gaming. I played and played and once it was out of 60 minutes got the game in a flash. That night. Didnt discover that there was an internet part to it until later that night when Mars and Demo man and me fought out in BM. Good ole days.

I was reading a Finnish computer magazine when I saw ThinkTanks on the freeware/shareware game page. It looked and/or sounded(can't remember if there were a picture of the game) interesting and I went to download it from the magazine internet site(+read more about the game).

Happened 2003.

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

Downloaded Shockwave demo version around July 12th of 2003. Then I bought it. X/ I remember supratank refering to me as a cliffhanger in BM when I first started playing with the full version after a few months. ;)

Niko's TT Story...

I first discovered ThinkTanks in GarageGames after a Google search of some sort. I had the demo for about three months, I believe, and purchased the game (from GarageGames) around or a little before March of 2004. I started out (without my own comp) on my Dad's iBook 700MHz G3. Later, my mom purchased an iBook 900MHz G4 (me still not having my own comp, and parents separated, different comps). Although my dad had a noticeably different speed in-game, he had cable, whereas my mom had dial-up. I prefered the dial-up, as I got used to adapting to the delay. About a year ago, maybe a little less, I recieved my Toshiba 5005-S504 1.1GHz Pentium 3, PC laptop. With the new speed, I noticed how amazingly I could really play. I was so happy with the no-delay, non-jumpy play, that I became spoiled. I became accustomed to winning games, so when the problems started appearing in my laptop (much to my disappointment) I nearly stopped playing TT altogether, as the jumpiness got almost to an unbearable level. --I did a google search-- Searching "Toshiba 5005-S504 Problem" in January of this year, I came accross many results. There was a whole class lawsuit with Toshiba over this model for overheating (randomly shutting down), combo drive not reading anything, severe lack of speed, and numerous others. Noting that I could've recieved over $1000 if I had turned in my computer by June or July of last year, I was quite disappointed (as you could imagine). I did stop playing TT for numerous weeks then, giving up the search through many jerky games for that one perfect game where my comp would use it's speed efficiently. I have started playing recently (on my same comp) on occasion, and somewhat getting used to the jerkiness, but never recovering all the "skill" I had possessed when I first recieved this comp, and the few months after. Saving for the new MacMini now, I am quite along my way to a new computer which will help me in my animation, other graphic art, and of course most of all ThinkTanks!!!!! I am happy that soon I will get out of rut with the coming of my favorite OS to me.

Quite long, I am sorry, but I was bored... :) ,

I got my copy of TT from a cereal box.

If I remember correctly, the early forums were printed on the back of the box.
