A few nights ago, rough day, a few cold ones, settle in and play a few games. Couple of kids ruin the game, swearing notwithstanding, (some directed at me), so everyone leaves. Last night I check the forums and there they are, being banned, same ones, for doing the same thing, maybe the same night, not sure. So I post, half in the bag and ticked for a crappy night to conclude what was a crappy day. Then the damn weirdest thing, all day today I am thinking about it. I am not sure why either, I have never thought about a game or anything similar at work before, but for some reason I feel bad for these guys. I am pretty thick skinned too, so I don't know why I felt compelled to post. I cannot believe a game can have such an affect on conscious, learn something new every day. Have sympathy, remember what it was like being a teen and compound that by 50 or more virtual parents. Hope this makes sense, and UFO and Capn fare well, I think that they are good kids for the most. Sorry for bringing up a dead topic.

Time for the public flogging ! :P

Let the flogging begin. Personally, a cane would feel better. Try being ousted, it hurts more than you know. Try being me for a night, join a server and have comments like "thought I smelled someone here" thrown at you the second you join. Or better yet, people on the opposite team, or even yours, stop playing while your there. It does hurt, really, and happened earlier to me tonight. It will happen again as long as I continue to play, but it doesn't bother me. I can see where it can be hurtful though, and don't want young minds being rejected in this way. Discipline is fine, but sometimes it is too easy to forget that this is just a game.

Ya well I feel for those two as well cuz I can remember some of the things
I did in my teens that I thougtht funny and now realize were just stupid
We all go thru this - its sorta a right of passage as it were
And yes its a game but a game must have rules
Or the fun stops for everyone
there are penalties in everygame for unsportmanlike behaviour
I think some time on the bench might stimulate some independant thought
Duration for this on my server - till Feb 1st
It was a first offence and (not withstanding Napalms frustration) not that serious
Consider it a wake up call

^ I agree will every word

@ Banshee

I can certainly see your perspective. I'm a dad and have 3 kids. Although it may appear that I have lttle heart when dealing with these kids in vitrual land, it's not actually the case.

I don't recall ever banning anyone without trying to work with them first. (Ok 1 time, sry Gamera) In this specific example I wasted 30-40 minutes of my gametime (on a night where I really shouldn't be playing at all. But we all know how that goes.) on trying to tell them what they are doing is not necessary, and we didn't want it. Jordan asked and as LGM has stated we all said "NO." I even went as far to lock and unlock a post on PTT so they would know I was not a poser and I was serious. They just laughed and made fun of the whole incident. A complete turnaround the next day when they saw the threads. For good reason of course.

I have the same things happen to me as you do. I'll be on th trrain or where ever and just start thinking about something in TT. It is what it is.
I do feel a little bad that I had to punish these kids, but I do see it as a learning experience for all involved. I don't really enjoy being the heavy in situations like these but imagine if nobody ever did anything about this. Jordan would be running around thinking he's the TT police. Kids like UFO Cool, who are easily impressionable, start to beieve things because of a players name, rather than their experience, knowledge, and character.

It appears from both of their post that they understand what they did and accept their idle time in private servers. Hopefully when they return (Feb1st is fine with me) they will participate and add to the experience rather take from it.
