It's some peoples strategy to when they are smoking run away from the goal. Personally, I find it annoying and tiresome when this happens, even though it is part of the game. In TS it's good because you are trying to pass to a teammate but in indie it just slows the game down IMO. If im smoking bad and not close to the goal, I may travel parallel, but I will never head away from the goal. When I play indie, even if im smoking bad, I'll try and make a nice move and make the goal anyway. If someone else scores, sobeit, at least I tried. ;)

What's yur take on dees?

Yes, running is a buzz kill. There's nothing like the excitement of scoring while one shot away from death. But if I don't think I'll make it, I try to be killed just far enough away so I'll have a chance to get in on the action if I respawn nearby.

Sooo, it is kinda like a legal version of cliff diving?

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

To retreat is logical if you are a competitive player.

Ive made up my mind that I will do absolutely anything the game allows to give me an advantage while playing indie. I feel like a slimeball when im doing it so I RARELY play indie for that reason.

Right you are B

I'm naturally a very competitve person. I'm extremely competitive playing sports (Track, basketbal - the ones that im good at the most, since I feel like I have to keep the #1 spot) and of course, do enjoy scoring a lot of points in TT. That is the "point" of the game, after all. I just can't bring myself to run away.

I would feel like a slimeball ;)

I understand the point most of you are making, but Bolo's right. It makes sense to avoid the goal area if you're a hot potato. If you're smoking like crazy and there are six players waiting around, run. It's the only chance you have to get the scrum back before someone scores. If you charge in and get roasted, you will likely not get back in time to get that goal. If you run, you have a better chance of being back in play before the point is scored.

Also, if there's a convention going on around the goal, you can loosen up the defenses by running. They (the non-campers) chase, and get strung out along your path as you go. If you are fortunate, you can even get back to the goal and score sometimes.

Of course, all this leads to being shot many times, so it often only pulls the scrum out from the goal and gives players another chance to make a new run for the goal. I don't mind it, and I'll admit I do it often. It's just one tactic that can be used.

Better than running is to "die strategiclly".

RUn to a bunch of rocks and let the scrum land in that mess of rock with a few players bumpimg around and you will have ample time to get back to the goal while they are fighting the rocks and eacj other.

@ Sniper- sounds good, and that's fine if there's a mess of rock around... But if there aren't, what do you suggest? It sounds like you are doing the same thing I described when I said

You choose rocks, I get away so I get time to return. I like your style, but it seems like the same thing to me.

A good tactic in the shockwave servers:
you vs demos
take the scrum around the map so everyone follows you
when they follow you they will be far enough away from the goal for you to score

I normally dont get a chance to get close to the goal let alone run away from it.......

But hey.... I have fun.... Thats what counts... :)

Running away from the goal in Indi Scrum does make the game boring. Although as others have said, running towards your mates when smoking is always a good thing in TS.

This then leads me to my biggest beef in TS. Well, it's not really a beef. It's more of a preference. I absolutely can't play with people who don't like to pass and pass often. I have the most fun playing with people who don't care if they score or not. I believe that the team that passes the most inevitably ends up with more fresh tanks and wins the game more often than not. The game becomes boring to me when I have to continually block for a smoker that won't pass at the goal. The scenario almost always ends with the smoker and me dead. Of course the opposing team and their three fresh tanks, that were at the goal to begin with, easily walk it into the goal.

Pass. Pass. Pass.

Also, I'd love to see a TS or TBM server that removes the individual score chart and just leaves the team score. Is that possible? Maybe the individual scores would only be available on the end of game screen. Just a thought. I think removing the indi scores would instill an even more team oriented game.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

@ Rogue

Thats a very good point. Taking individual scores out would cut down on the individules who will pass you by as you are one shot from being killed, because they are in chase of a smoker. Excellent idea. Will have to summon A C on that.

@rogue very nice my thoughts exactly,I like to pass to the team than score

Sunday, July 24, 2005 at 6:28:42 PM

If I see I am not going to make the goal and there are no team playerrs near me than I will run as far as I can from the goal... I am not going to make it easier for the other team to score and gives my team a better chance at the ball( and myself of course has another chance at the ball when I respawn)

Rogue knows team scrum....only he never passes to me. Whats up with that?!?!?

LGM,

In my version, I have the scrum, I'm smokin, and I take it to a nearby yet inconvenient small cluster of trees, or rocks or simply a deep dip in terrain, any place makes it alittle dificult for the other team to get the ball.

Usually 2or tanks are duking it out trying to get the scrum and get it moving again when I return from a spawn and the game goes on.

The difference between my approach and yours is that in my version, the game play has not been diminished for others chasing down a smoking runaway, but rather has a an added battle for the hard-to-reach ditched scrum.

One is boring , one is not.

I'm all about keep9ing the game exciting. One of the reason I almost never cliff dive to get a new tank.

@Sniper

Fair enough... I'll keep it in mind, but if I'm ahead by one and the timer comes on, I might run around anyway. I don't want to be a buzz killer for other people. See ya out there!
