Forums Index >> General >> PS3 - NINE POWERPC PROCESSORS!!!
Page : <1> :
Ouch! That just sounds crazy... And wicked fast. That seems like SOOOOOO much power for games. Maybe too much. Like building a 185 mph car to go get the kids at soccer. (Or putting a big block 454 in a Camaro... Who really needed that? - but it was fun)
I'm having trouble figuring out why it needs that much power, but it sure sounds sweet...
Well I read an article a while that focused on game developement for "next generation" games I cna imagine why that's necessary. Imagine being in a room with 30 'enemies' all with self contained AI, 'thinking' for themselves on the fly. Then imagine your characters itself with clothing that folds to objects wrapped around it, like accesory belts and such. Also things like 'stuble' of a beard on his face, and not just a flat texture but actually hair. From the pictures I saw of actual gameplay these games are AMAZING!!
Here's a small article on MacCentral comparing the XBox 360 vs. PS3 Looks like Sony COMPLETELY trumped Microsoft on this one. From the sound of it, the PS3 is far superior in graphics. Hehe. It looks to be a killer console. You go Sony!
Of course, MS will have the advantage of getting their Xbox out before Sony ships PS3, but if the past is any indicator, Sony has a loyal following for the PS console, who will most likely wait the extra 4-5 months or so for the PS3. I know I will. I'm DEFINITELY getting a PS3 next year.
Damn it I was just coming back to post that story.
My favorite part was the last paragraph; (summed up) Microsoft announced that they're working to bring Final Fantasy XI to the X-Box (while already out for PC and PS2) while Sony announced to be releasing Final Fantasy XII.
Just when they think they're ahead D'OH!!! I guess "Windoze" has even more meaning these days.

Which one will TT(2?) run on?
{WalMart free for over 24 months!}
I'm also wondering why the big man himself is trying to turn the next generation X-Box into a computer? He has no sense, as the gamers of today only want to PLAY GAMES!!! Doesn't he have enough of the computer market already that he has to badger Apple with a gaming system??? This is as bad as his attempt at a Computer Television!

X-BOX ROCKS!!! (So will X-box 360, can't wait til' it comes out) (X-box 360 comes out: Early November....W00T!!)
EDIT: PS3 sounds pretty cool, I looked on the news report on wowway...but, like they said, X-Box 360 will outrun them by 2010...

Apple?
@Sun
I don't want to hurt your feelings, but that guy that said that (Horwitz?) probably didn't know the stats on the PS3
1: The PS3 has 9 processor cells, > 360's 6
2: The PS3's processors work together @ 5.0ghz (The power of todays most powerful PC) versus the 360's 6 that work alone (meaning better processing even if they were equal)
3: The guy that said the 360 would outrun the PS3 also said that the market shares would be as follows by 2010;
36% microsoft, 32% playstation, and 22% nintendo (counting handhelds)
Its kind of obvious that nintendo is completely dying, as their machinery is underpowered and underdeveloped. The new gameboy they unveiled is just a mini version of the older ones (already small enough). Even if X-Box did outrun sony on game consoles it would mean nintendo had lost its game console market share by far, leaving Sony to murder Nintendo with the PSP (and even if that didn't happen handhelds wouldn't be 22% of the market share for ONE company, maybe total)
@Rabban; I went to a different site and it said 4.6 ghz (rounded to 5) but I guess LAD's site is more trustworthy.
I also have like millions of emulator's on my computer and I luv the atari games (can't get much better than pong) XD XD

Rabban,
No links, but I got it on good old ink and paper :) I can scan it for you if you'd like umm if I can find the magazine. I don't even remember which it was. It was left in front of my seat on an airplane, I did keep it but don't know where I put it.
I rememeber the days of the Atari 2600...and we LIKED it!
I told my dad about the ps3 and he said that that before I read your comment he said he used to play the basketball game for hours...
P.S. Have you heard of Heather(I want to say Smith) my dad said he read your name on one of her paper stuff she goes to my church
That's kick-ass dude!
Hrm... I for one call a BS.
For one thing, it would cost way too much to manufacture, and if they sold it for a reduced price, they would be losing profit, not making it... And that doesn't make any sense.
For another, they said that the PS2 was going to deliver graphics along the same calibur of Toy Story using the "SONY Emotion Engine." Whoops, we can see that the PS2 comes nowhere close to trumping Toy Story, even today.
SONY has a thing about overhyping their products and then not delivering up to the standard of which they promised. My friend recently bought a PSP that had over 20 dead pixels on it, and he had to return it. With the money he got for returning it, he went and bought a DS, and is now happier than he was for the few days that he had the PSP.
I say just wait and see. It could have 9 processors for all we know now... But I am not willing to trust them as of yet.
I'm buying a PS3 as soon as it's out.
The truth about the Xbox 360 booth...
The back/side of the E3 booth...
LOL.
An Apple video game system... I like the idea. :)
How much $$$ for the PS3 compared to the xBox 360
Spunk,
Both XBox AND PS2 costs their companies more to make then what they sold it for. They've always lost money on every system they sold, but they made it up and then some by charging so much for their games and accessories.
Also: just go to playstation.com and check the news section. You can read their very own press release about the system.

Racer,
Saw that too BWAH HA HA HA.
I love the part in the story about the microsoft people trying to block people from taking pictures of it.
Page : <1> :
We thought 6 processors was an overkill w/ the X-Box 360 Sony apparently didn't think so and has put 9 PowerPC 'Cell' processors in their PlayStation 3 with a central 'Brain'.
Completely insane.
