Sweet... I've done some 3d modeling in Wings 3D. Just some custom items for scenes in Bryce 5. I mainly do abstract landscapes.
Mind if I ask.... What do you call this thing of yours? XD Perhaps you could help me with my modeling too. ;) Just contact me in IM- SNs in profile.
. :)
I use multi-billion dollar military satellites to find tupperware hidden in the woods... What do YOU do?
Well, I am not sure. At first I was thinking it was somthing like a transport or cargo ship, but whenever I added the guns on the side (which I just noticed are not showing up... Huh, will have to fix that) I got a vision for a pretty awesome gunship. So, I am going to finish off with a large turret on the top, and maybe make the runners like torpedo tubes. Whenever I get time, though, I would be happy to contact you. Also, the tutorial I based by detailing off of wasn't for wings. I forget where it went, but I had some excelent starting points that weren't really program specific.
Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.
Ok, ill take part in it all. Im not very skilled yet and the thing I will give u a link to is my 3rd 3D model, but ive spent pretty much (3-4) hours on making and skinning it. Its a helicopter.
PS give me plz where to send the link, cuz I dont want to post it here.

Just send it to me, and I will render it for you. Maybe even add some stuff. My email is in profile.

Ok. ;)
Ill send...

Nice how long you worked on the thing?
You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.
Since he was but a young lad... ;)

I have been working on it now for about a week. All the detail is very complicated in wings. I will be able to make a better version once I get the hang of lightwave. Here s an updated pic with a little bit more complicated render (not as much anti aliasing, though, so not quite as real.)

Remind me of Warhammer 40000 stuff... Pretty cool things.

Ok, I have sent it ;)

Hasn't arrived in my email yet. Yahoo, being yahoo, though, might have delayed it. Will also check bulk.
EDIT: Was in my bulk. Nice model. Would be excelent for a cartoon-ish game like TT. I will try to render it later tonight, or during the break. I have a bit of work that I need to get done, here.

Thx. It still has some bugs in skin, but ill debug it when ill have enough time (after 1,5-2 weeks :S )

Sorry that took so long. I have been busy working on this:

Ok, here is the pic. I only have time to do one, though. I spent a while trying to figure out how UV maps work in LW, but alas, I could not figre it out. So I added a reflection and refraction map on it. It came out a little wird, but now it looks like a chrome helicopter.
enjoy!
Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.
Heh, thx ;)

^^ UV mapping, believe it or not, is very simple in blender :P
^ Not nearly as simple as in lightwave. Well, placing textures anyways. You can take a gunshot, or a logo, and individually place it anywhere you would like on the model. It is really cool, but I haven't been able to figure out how to make a skin. I think it has somthing to do with the surface baking camera, but I don't know how to arrange it.
Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.
When you say out tide TT work u mean like making your own #d modle of what u think should be in the game
^ I mean like making 3d models of anything too high poly/complex for TT. Or, if you have a model for TT, you can post that, too.
Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.
And bout skinning, its really easy in Wings 3D. XD
P.S. This model is really for TT, its previous version is a available as a tank already, but its skin was a muck... :'(

^ We are talking about real texture maps. It is decidedly not easy when you get into higher polygon models. Racer and I know this %)

Oh, it's fine, DJ. Looks like you used both hard and soft edges, and managed to get a good lighting scheme down. Next, try to detail the blade with hard edged bevels and a couple edge extrusions.
@Rabban- NICE! The lights and stands are especially well done. I like the markers, too.
Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.
How...did...you...guys...learn...how...to...do...that.........Did you learn by urselves or take a class.........I am purely jeoulus! You dont knwo how freaken angry I am right now and purely envious of those pictures..............HOW DID YOU DO THAT!!! ;) XO
^ I have been teaching myself how to model for about 2 years now (just got serious eight months ago). You can get an excelent program to learn on at www.wings3d.com and find some good tutorials on the web. The one I learned most from is here:
http://www.combat-bunny.com/tutorial.html
Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.
I learned by myself. I'm impressed with PGG's mad leet skillz, tho. By the way, up here, there's a class you can take to learn 3D modeling: it's called DDP (Design and Drawing for Production), and I'm thinking about dropping one of my classes for it as soon as I can.
I love high school.
I don't care how heretic that sounded.
PS: I use Wings 3D.
It's a snap to use. I'm also working on ray-tracing 3D animations with Blender
, which isn't as easy to use, but it's much more powerful. Both of these are free and GPL.
Well guys.... I cannot learn from tutorial on websites knowmatter how try! Also I cant teach myslef.... Im a freak of nature and I hate that I cannot do it....i will just have 2 wait till college..................................(idiot) < --- refering 2 me
BUT ILL GIVE IT A TRY!
EDIT: All this extrude stuff I dont even know waht it is...... I tried guys I really did but I STINK! Is there a tutorial that starts from the bare bone basics.......like how to move and stuff.....
Last edited: Thursday, November 30, 2006 at 4:11:38 PM
Sigh. :P Let us start out with the basics (your lucky your getting this. It is almost nine pm right now, which is too late to be up when you are sick as a dog).
3d space: It is formed by three axis of directions: X,Y,Z. "X" is normally represented by horizontal movement. Y Represents up and down. Z Represents Depth (closer to you, farther from you). These are the main ways to move something. Also, in wings there are two different views, represented by a triangle up on your left top corner. You can switch from Perspective view (real life depth), or orthographic view (basically a 2d way to edit your objects). You can als change this view by pressing the letter "O". Now, right next to that triangle, there is another one that looks more smooth. This switches from Shaded View and back. This will get rid of the lines and give your object a smoother approach.
Ok, Now that you know what the different controls do, we can move on to creating things. First, you will need a three button mouse. If you do not have one, well, sorry.
Ok, on to making your first object. Right click in the space window (the one with the grid and Axis displayed) and scroll down to the "Cube" option. This is what I make most of my models (including the ship above) out of. It is actually a matter of extruding, cutting, and beveling the faces.
However, we are not quite ready to start on that yet. First, you make a cube. Now, select it (it will turn red). If the entire cube is not red, there is another triangle right above the space scene. It is completely red. Click that, and you cube will be too.
Next, right click again. A different menu than before should come down. It will have a sub menu option called "move". Put your mouse over this, and a roll out will appear. It will have the option of "Free", "X Axis", "Y Axis" and "Z Axis". This will allow you to move your object in the appropriate direction. If you don not know which is wich, look at the space screen. There chould be three lines. If you have not yet oved around the space, there should be a blue one (Z) going off to the left, a red line (X) going off to the right, and a green line (Y) going straight up. Use these to help you move.
Ok, As if right now, I am tired, and I am going to bed. I may just make a thread in Modding over the weekend that goes into the bare bone basics. Goodnight, all.
Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.
^^ Hey thanks dude your the best!!!!!!!!!!!! I will defintally put this all 2 heart!
Lol,so will I
I've decided to learn Blender better. Wings 3D is easier to use, but learning more about Blender is worth my time more because:
-Blender is more powerful than Wings.
-Blender has a DTS-exporting Python script.
-Blender is installed on more Linux distros than Wings. (Seriously, eLive has it preinstalled, and I'm starting to become attached to it.)
Someone once said that Blender is a snap to use, as long as you keep one hand on your keyboard and one on your mouse. I'll believe it when my skillz in Blender become as mad-l33t as they are in Wings.
Blender is an amazing tool, but not for beginners. Wings is excelent to learn on, not to produce. It is souley for the fun of modeling. I would call it a production app once it has boulion, Spline tools, and a movement/rotation/scaling gizmo. Either way, it is still one of the simplest modelers I have ever used. I wish I could get the source to LightWave, Wings, and google sketchup. Those three combined would create one hell of a modeling program.
Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.
Yeah, but trying to combine the two as they are... :S
Might as well make a whole new modeling program :P
HEEELP MEEE! Blender's acting stupid! It won't link objects together when I use Ctrl+L in the Outliner window.
For more details, figure out why I bumped this thread.
Bumpage crumpage, this is a good topic. Try going into the preferances and seeing if you can manage to change the keyboard equivelent.

Ok, I know we have some experienced 3d modelers on here, but I have never been able to see the extent of your work, due to the fact that TT can't handle much. So, I will start with the "outside TT work" showing off. Here is my best piece to date, rendered in lightwave (just got it, way to much money, but way too worth it!). If anyone else wants somthing of theirt hat thye made in wings, blender or milkshape rendered, just send it to me in 3ds or lwo format.
