So PTT is going to be getting some more horsepower. I'm upgrading the CPU from a 1.8Ghz to a 3.06Ghz with Hyperhreadding technology. What this means for the users of PTT and the Survivor server? Hopefully doubling the horsepower of the server will reduce lag. I'll let you guys know when it gets installed, total cost of the upgrade will be about $250 on top of monthly charges. Lets hope this helps ;) *fingers crossed*

Cool,I really hope Survivor gets lag free,it's really hard to play in extreme lag.

Thank you for your efforts to make PTT and Survivor a great place to be! :)

Yes, thank you.

I'm assuming a P4 processor with HT tech, right? Nice, even though I am an AMD person myself.

@ DanMac
Will this also help CTF? Thank you for all you have been doing for us, since -Z- decided to play hookie with that dang Parrot of his ! Hehe B)

Yes a P4 with a 533mhz Front Side Bus. Hyperthreading is pretty sweet, I have it on my dev machine at home. It acts like two processors so I'm hopefull it will load balance the PTT site and the Survivor Server a little better and reduce lag overall.

What is so new about Hyper-threading technology? I've heard a lot about it from my friends and ads in magazines, but I don't get what it does...does it make your CPU faster or something?

WOOT! (also I mean, thanks)

Hyper threading makes 1 cpu act like 2 for purposes of scheduling jobs to be done by the processor. So on servers which do multiple things at once like run a web server and run a TT Server things run smoother.

Gotcha. Sounds nifty.

Hope it makes the servers run smoother, Dan!

Goods news are always nice to hear. <smilies> Mayby Survívor will get its old shine back.

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

Holy cannoli!! This was all running on a 1.8GHz P4 CPU? Amazing, I didn't know a machine like that could handle all this + a game server. That's about what I've got in mine!

Very coool of you, Dan, to upgrade. A 3Ghz processer makes me quiver. It should rock. How much RAM is in the server? Just curious, for further comparison to my own machine. I look forward to seeing how the added horsepower affects things XD

Wow Dan, sounds great! I think it's time to revive the cash drive for PTT. Dan shouldn't have to foot the entire bill for the servers. I would think we could collect $250 from all the adult, and even some younger members here. Dan, we still need to know how to donate money to you. Does the PayPal thing still get to you? Let us know.

Thanks!

Oh ya, the paypal thing works great. Though in the month before we got the new mods the donations were way down so I had to cover the server fees. That's ok, that's what I signed up to do. It seems donations are picking back up again. Thanks guys.

The server has 512MB of ram, but it seems like the CPU is the bottleneck currently.

I think this calls for an all around WOOT!!! . Sounds like it'll help things quite a bit, lets all hope so.

Thanks Dan. I just sent in a donation to help out with the new server costs. Keep us informed of progress with the upgrade.

$250 is a lot less than we previously anticipated an upgraded server would cost. Cudos Mr. MacDonald! I'm more than happy to make good on my on my pledge from the $ drive.
Now, is there anything that can help the current games page from getting stuck? It's my most used feature on PTT.

Just a little update on the "new engine", I was informed by the hosting company that they have ordered the new CPU and it is on its way.
