Page : <1> :

Im in Palm Springs, CA right now with a friend. The temp today was around 123 with heat index in the upper 130's to around the low 140's. The humidity was around 35-45% rather high for california, but we are having some rain off to the east. Keep in mind that the hottest temp ever recorded is 136, but in the USA its 134F in Death Valley California. Of course it would feel like 150 or higher. So that was the heat index ( what the temp really feels with humidity and other factors). So my question is how hot is to hot? This heat that I felt was crazy. It actually hurt the skin like you were being burned. And if you went on the cement, which I did and put my hand on the ground, which wasnt smart because now I have a 1st degree burn on my hand. So this is to hot, I couldnt survive in this heat for more than an hour in the sun. Have you ever felt heat like this? Global warming? Thoughts? B)

Global warming.....pffft.

Here's my definition of too hot:

Once when I lived in Phoenix and we were having temperatures in the 120s daytime/90s nightime, I parked my car in the evening to let it cool down overnight so I could work on it the next morning. Early the next morning, 12 hours later, everything in the engine compartment was still too hot to touch!

Sweating in Phoenix amounts to extruding salt crystals from your skin. :'(

Ah, we here at central PA are not in the 100's, but in the mid 90's during the day and low 80's during the night. Even with no airconditioner, this is tolerable. What gets us in the fact that on average it is 65-70% humidity X/ You can seriously set a piece of peper outside and it will warp...

Pardon my rudeness, I cannot abide useless people.

Yeh... Know what you mean.
back in the oven theres no wind, either (not that it would do you much good, theres no humidity to make you sweat).

Had a couple days of around 95 with 70% humidity here in Central NY. I thought that was too hot, but you desert dwellers win. I've been working outside in the heat, and man, nothin's worse than tryin' to git er done with the sweat in your eyes and an intense headache. Can't imagine trying to work in your heat. No wonder most of the labor is imported.

It has been in the 100 to 109 range here in Dallas all week, the humidity has been way up also. 80% or better. You just move and you start to sweet. I think it is to hot when my 8ft deep pool is to hot to swim in and forget getting in the 4 ft side.

Just got back from a week in Vegas where it was 105-110 the whole time, only to return to Oregon City where it's, yup 105. Getting back to building houses was rough today, but you can sweat out a week's worth of Jack Daniels in about 4 hours. XD

@ Three

It's a bit sweltering here too. Supposed to be a high of 80! Then highs of 76 the rest of the week!

It's a bummer living on the Oregon coast man. Nothing but hot and then wet. Everyone stay away, nothing to look at here.

LGM

Just got back from North Carolina on Wednesday, and it was too hot for me back there. I'm used to 70s-80s with humidity in the range of 40-60%. Back there, it was in the upper 80s and humidity up to 100%. I found that particularly nasty.

Now we're having a bit of heat here in Washington. 85-90º and moderately humid. Not great, but not bad.

The old "its hot, but it's a dry heat" thing seems true enough. I grew up near where fishtank lives, and when it gets hot there, you suffer. 90º and 90+% humidity is nearly unbearable. You sweat, but it doesn't evaporate. I liked 103 and 20% humidity much better.

Well, I'm up here in Washington State - and its really hot - it could be a record-temp today. It was in the 90's yesterday.

:P

I used to live in Phoenix. The temperature was perfect during te winter, it was usually between sixty or seventy degrees. But you could fry an egg on the sidewalk. You really can; my friends and I fried an egg on the freeway one day when it was 126 degrees out.

Grow some skin. Common.. We have continuous 48 - 50 degree celcius here during summer and still work 12 hour days outside. %)

Well, I've been in Alaska the last week. The temperature probably averaged a nice 50 degrees. In some areas it was 25 with wind chill. Got back into Sacramento last night at 1:00. Found that it had been 115 during the day. It was 95 at 1:00 in the morning. The airport had no power, had to use generators. Can I go back? Please.
