To be honest, I dont think it matters if you use an alias or not, I can work out whose a good player or not within 1 minute of the person playing. It never ruined a game for me and I have no objection to using them. Not because I like using them (as I havnt used an alias in months).
@Jay
Cool, but it does bother most veterans. Also, Reagent X made a good point about building the TT community.
There is something nice about recognizing everyone in a game... Like them or not...lol. There is much to be said for knowing the strengths and weaknesses of teammates and oponents. Sure you can judge how good an unknown player is very quickly but it's not the same as knowing who it is. For example, some players are great runners who almost never pass (DJ_Breaka, Minnox, etc.) so you know once you pass the flag to them you shouldn't expect it back and should just clear a path for them or stay close to pick it up if they are killed. Others prefer not to approach a crowded goal so you know not to give it to them. Etc.

All I can do is giggle about this thread.
Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.
Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.
Well, I prefer giggles over the usual assault and anal rippage. ;)
@Reagent
I updated my post to add **If accept and enforced by the admins...***
Sorry about that. I don't see why we wouldn't want to enforce this policy, especially when you were one of the protagonists for it. Matter of fact, you actually already DO these things sometimes. You also made it clear how much you dislike aliases in team scrum. Why wouldn't the admin circle agree to this? Ultimately, it would not mean extra work for the admins because in time the threat of being renamed/kicked/banned would act as a deterant and thus prevent players from using aliases because they know they cannot get away with it. Sort of like those bogus Protected by Home Security Alarm System signs when there isn't one installed. Potential burglers will just skip that house because they can't take the risk of finding out if the sign is valid or not.
^ True but we would like the players to willingly NOT use aliases so admin's can play the game. How is one to have a good game if their all tied up in administartive duties. No admin is going to agree with this. In principle it's a great idea, but not too practicle when trying to enjoy the game.
@Nappy & X
Ahh...I see what you mean. Makes sense. I think you're both right. Just lead by example. However, I think it also means we will always have to deal with aliases in team scrum then...to some extent anyway. I guess as long as they play clean it's all right. Still, it does make it hard for you admins to keep fair sides. Remember that great old thread by Tally Ho when he totally ripped another vet for using an alias in team scrum? It was a hilarious rant that only Tally could do... And he was right too.
Anyway, here's an old thread from 2004 by reagent x that does a good job explaining why we should always use our primary tank name.

Although I am quite new to TT, I feel that the use of an alias is wrong, I sometimes find it hard to remeber the skills of the TTer's I do know, let alone the aliases. I also can't understand fully the guys in more than one army, I feel loyalty to just one army is enough. Just in case any one is bothered, my son plays TT on my computer at the weekend when he stays with me, his TT name is Dr Who, it is not an alias I use.

The admins do a great job!! XD
So in addition to changing people from red to blue and back to green.
They need to:
Monitor ip addresses and change names.
Keep the language clean.
Stop the spamming.
Make the teams fair.
Kick the idiots.
Just checking. Seems like a lot of work. The admins will not get to play at all. :[
Can I be admin? Just kidding. XD

Thanks to recent comments made in another thread of mine regarding the use of aliases, I have come to the conclusion that they are right. Using aliases in team scrum is not a good thing, ever. It isn't fair to any of the players in the game, not your teammates or your opponents. It does not help make teams fair and does appear to be cowardice.
I know, I know, this is a perfect example of the pot calling the kettle black! I mean, after all, I am the king of aliases. I probably have used the most ever. Well I am officially calling it quits when it comes to fake names on team scrum servers. I only used aliases lately because I did not want to perpetuate my already bad reputation for quitting games too early. Figured if an unknown player came and left all the time it wouldn't matter. Still, it's not fair to all of the team scrum players out there.
Thus, I have proposed a new Anti-Alias policy to the admin circle for all team scrum servers. If accepted and enforced by the admins , then no one is allowed to use an alias in a team scrum server. If there is an admin in the game, they will warn the player if it is suspected they are a veteran using a new name. If the admin still believes the player is using an alias they can check their IP address with the list of names they have compiled and they can rename the player's name in the game. If the player leaves and returns with the same alias or another new name then they will be kicked out and upon the third violation they will get the EOD (Elbow of Death) or Banned from that server and possibly all TS servers.
I am willing to abide by this new rule if everyone else agrees. I experienced much frustration over the weekend when I kept playing as Paisano with an endless stream of unknown player names!!! It was ridiculous!!! It took most of a game to learn how good/bad a teammate was! It also made it impossible for admins to make teams even!!! Poor sluggy was going berzerko trying to make fun games!!! Who was busch? Great player...but a vet using an alias that ruined many a game.
New slogan... Just say no to aliases!!!
Note: Starting a new organization called AAA (Alias Addiction Anonymous) for players like me who are hooked on aliases. Hey, Ass Clone Army aka chaulmers, high command, mamby pants, wanna join? 44???
I guess it doesn't count if we use it in indie scrum because that is the only way we don't get BMed to hell and get to play most of a game in peace. :)
