I was in mad bots today with a bunch of other ppl, when woot informs me that I have high ping. So I go and restart TT and get bak on, but woot tells me I still have ping, which I could tell because it was lagging badly. He then suggested I restart my computer, so I did, and I got bak on mad bots. I then still had a high ping, so I restarted 1 more time and tried again. Again I was met by a wall of ping. I cant figure out what else 2 do, so could some1 help me?

Your ping is mainly out of your control. If you have a fast connection (cable or dsl or better) you should be OK, but sometimes you get a lot of network traffic between you and the server, and your ping goes up.

If you aren't on dialup or wireless, then it's likely the amount of network traffic around you. (or your connection isn't what it should be...)

I wasn't sure it was you that was lagging or not. If woot was pinging you in the game (admin function I believe), he could tell you, or he may have been guessing.

I've been seeing that alot lately, and I too assume it's "outside", pretty much beyond anyone's control. I have cable, and I still experience high ping/lag in my server, as well as other folk's servers too. I'm no computer expert, but I think it's a "traffic" thing like LGM said. Sometimes it's ok in my server as well as surfing in general, and sometimes... 8(

Thanks for telling me this, u 2. I thought something might b wrong with my computer, but now I know theres not. ;)

@ Jedrieb= I was there, and I can tell you you weren't the only one with lag, in fact we all had it.

However, what doesn't seem normal in your case, I checked my ping even though I was lagging and Read "93", in which case, yours is a personal problem :(

How can u check ur ping in-game?

P.S. I cant figure out what was wrong, but now it seems to b fine now, cause ive been on some servers tonight, and theyve been very smooth

Open the chat window and type this in the chat window,

/ping Jedirieb

Then hit enter.
Keep in mind this only works in private servers !
Ping is ok in most servers as long as its under 200 !
I have noticed when soem one comes in with it over 200 that it tends to effect all.
thats why woot asked you to leave !
I run any where from a 30 to a 126 for a ping depending on which server I am in.
If I get over 150 I leave, out of respect for the other players & not wanting to ruin the fun do to my lag. :(

Ok, I went to a bunch of servers and tried that, and I always had a ping of over 200! Does any1 have any suggestions as 2 how I can lower my ping?

I wonder if you have anything running in the background on your computer that may contribute to ping. Are any background tasks running?

Sunday, October 30, 2005 at 9:21:55 PM

No, the only thing I ever have running while playing TT is TT.

Sunday, October 30, 2005 at 9:30:20 PM

What modem are you using?

That's another whippersnapper belted by the feared AncientOne!

I run my PC on a Belkin Wireless B network with Comcast cable, and I have no lag issues.

Any router info?

Sunday, October 30, 2005 at 10:35:38 PM

Hey jedi

If your using a pc goto the command line and use netstat

It shows all your connections and their ip's. There should only be one running when doing TT and its the server your connected to

In macs sniper said netstat is under utilities

If you see anything run antispyware/antivirus

Linux I dont know

Well, that's the problem... The dialup modem really is waaaaay slower than cable or dsl.

Sorry, but that's probably the issue. :S

If he is on dial up, how is it when Mad Bots first came out, he had acceptable ping ?
I am on cable.
Played many times with Jedirieb in there and up until the last couple of days he has had great or good connection ? Please explain this. B)

Good question. Maybe he was using somebody else's connection before, and was using his dialup when his ping went south. Other than that, I got nothing...

Monday, October 31, 2005 at 4:07:39 PM

I have no idea why the sudden change has been, because ive always played TT on my computer and it has always had dial-up. The only thing I can think of is that it could possibly be the new maps ive been downloading, though I dont think that should affect my ping..

Hey Jedi I may have stumbled on something here, I am on my work pc and the day shift guys are alays screwing around with it, I opened my TT to adjust my radar in my cs file, did that closed it and opened the game. Man that thang was running kinda sucky so I closed it closed some process's and when I reloaded it I noticed that something was not right, the pixels had been changed so I looked and it was set on real real tight resoluton so I changed it from that to 800 x 600 and bingo runs smooth as glass. This may not be your problem but it may be something this simple give it a look, after you open TT and accept your name go to options and on the top right hand side set it to 800 x 600 it may help ya.

Ok, tried that. It is helping some, so thanks for the help. Also, I will keep a lookout for any other little stuff that might b the cause of any further lagging :)

BTW, my comp is now not lagging enough to affect anything on most courses anymore ;) unless a lot of ppl are on, so thanks every1 for ur help B)

No problem my friend. When was the last time you defragmented your system, swept for viruses and checked for ad ware ? Just trying to help get you back down to where you were before, I enjoy playing with ya when your ping is normal ! B)

@ Jedi

What dial-up service are you using?

If it's AOL then you're not getting true 56k - most likely somewhere in the high 30's.....

Yeah my wireless thing went wack....

Pray to GOD for him to reveal himself to you.

Tuesday, November 01, 2005 at 5:06:56 PM

I use netzero highspeed internet, and its actually not that slow for a dial-up
@LW, I didnt scan recently (about a week or two), but I will soon. Also, I enjoy playing with u 2, I always learn something ;)

Another trick sawbones tought me to do today, which lowered my ping from 200 or so down to 175 or so. Go to run, type in %temp% and delete everything, I have aol top speed dial up. So this helped so much. If it tells you it cannot delete hidden files because they are in use with another program, reboot and before you go online repeat the steps.
