I'm still wondering how that invisible rock got into Medulla Mesa XD

Friday, January 09, 2004 at 6:39:33 PM

It is just a physical manifestation of your fear of success. There is no rock.....the rock is you.

Wait....OH, I know what rock you are talking about, yep I hate that thing. :)

The only thing good about that rock is when you play newbies that don't know its there. Worth a laugh every time.

That said, I believe it is a small cluster of rocks because I actually got caught in it last night and finally requested a mercy-killing to be freed.

Hey! I'm no rock! Someone please lock this thread.

Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 6:23:12 PM

What is locking the thread?

Locking a thread prevents people from adding any new comments. It is a moderators option and used when a thread starts to go out of control or there is no reason to keep it open.

Being called a rock is paticuraly nasty. AND I don't have any fear of success!! I just asked a question! I'm nice to you, so be nice to me. :[

OOPS,

Cybertank, re read my post. I was being nice, playful, friendly, and goofy. Not an attack on you at any level.

I know we are used to being defensive from the trolls in the GG forums, but so far we all seem pretty friendly here.

Nothing but nice here Cyber.....sorry for the misunderstanding.

Monday, May 03, 2004 at 11:01:43 PM

You are dumb for bringing up a 4 month old post Tankster.

Monday, May 03, 2004 at 11:43:47 PM

LOL, I hate that thing :P

But mainly I think that the rock was created by a glich in the programing or something, (or just added by accident :) )

Seems like I only hit it when I'm coming at it from a certan angle. Weird...

Tuesday, May 04, 2004 at 1:13:29 AM

I can find the rock everytime now...usually when chasing a scrum carrier and it causes me to fail in shooting them down CURSE THAT DAM ROCK!!!!

Hypothesis:

There is no invisible rock. What people perceive as an invisible rock is lag.

Evidentary foundation:

All of us have crossed and criss-crossed every square inch of the area containing the invisible rock innumerable times. A short time back, when someone complained abut hitting the invisible rock Bolo and I drove through the area where the rock was supposed to be for more than five minutes without encountering it.

When a player lags his location is not what it appears to be on the screen. The image of the player that you see is a phantom created locally by the client application. As far as the client app is concerned the other player exists along a vector extending from his last known position to the position he would have occupied if he had continued at his last speed and rate of turn. (How often have you seen a lagged player driving in a circle until he finally times out) You may see an empty space in front of you but calcutation tells the client that there is a chance that another tank may occupy that location. Two tanks cannot accupy the same location in TTanks so the client app marks your intersection with the other tank's projected postition as a collision result, "CLANK", preventing you from entering.

Counter Example:

The counter example is trivial. Examine the.mis file for Medulla Mesa and find a shape whose position corresponds to the supposed location of the alleged invisible rock. You will be looking for an object whose definition begins with: new TSStatic()

....granpa sluggy the enormously unsuperstitious

Ben

What he said, AND...

Blind Cide's Iowa cornfield server was visited by "!" a bit earlier today. Since he was in a heavy, and a good two on two match was already on, "!" was booted. He came back (of course) spawned up on a hill, and began to drive backwards all the way across the map. Cide was busy booting him again, so I chased him to bm him. Following right after him, I ran into an invisorock. This may was Synaptic Slopes, and ain't no invisorock there as far as I know. I went around it and chased "!", who I realized had lagged out. This confirmed what I had already pretty much established, the invisorock is a lag rock. Isn't it the image left behind by the lagged out tank, and if you shoot it won't you kill it, or...*begin reading at sluggy's "Evidentary foundation".

U can pass through rocks and at certain angle those rocks r invisible

Tuesday, May 04, 2004 at 8:58:23 PM

Or if u have a rock sunken down so much u can't see it but enough to hit it like underground bouncepads 8o

Dont call me dumb,

@DReaper: Not the case on Medulla Mesa

@DReaper: No the case on Medulla Mesa. Please show evidence of this event.

If you wish to show me to be in error you simply need demonstrate the counter-example.

Why not just activate -z-'s Mod Wiz and raise all nearby objects? What will show up?

Wednesday, May 05, 2004 at 2:35:57 AM

Yep...just the very tip of it.

The inviso rock on Medulla Mesa exists. When you hit it you bounce off like you do a rock, instead of getting stuck in it, like a lagged tank. The collision shapes are lower poly than the rest of the rock, and that's what you are hitting, a corner of the collision shape sticking out. You get stopped on it going one way, but bounce over going another.

Not quite up for taking pictures right now, but I seem to recall someone already did that in a past thread... [edit]... While I was typing this post, KBC took care of that... [/edit] I can show you some night when we find ourselves on the Mesa.

You will find it at line 476 in TT1_1.mis

New TSStatic() {

Position = "-20.2355 124.336 126.244";

Rotation = "-0.0857188 0.336821 -0.937659 75.7366";

Scale = "1 1 1";

ShapeName = "~/data/shapes/Green/rockgreen05.dts";

TreeLighting = "0";

LightBoost = "0";

};

Just like with God, seek and you will find ... ;)

That is pretty damn stupid....you freakin' rock

Wednesday, May 05, 2004 at 9:58:40 AM

Anyone planning on digging up the rock and getting rid of it?

And yes, it only effects you at certain angles mainly going from the lower part of the map to the higher. Or away from the reload. Just like some flat rocks you can slide over going certain ways

Wednesday, May 05, 2004 at 5:05:04 PM

Lol allien

Quote from Joe from another thread:

And we do know of the invisible rock. It was on my to-do list to fix for 1.1, but I totally spaced and did not fix it. Right now, I am inclined to leave the now legendary 'inviso-rock' in there.

Long live the invisorock!

Then of course, there is also the scrum wormhole on Freudian Flats, that makes the scrum mysteriously vanish...

Wednesday, May 05, 2004 at 7:49:30 PM

It is....

Wednesday, May 05, 2004 at 8:15:37 PM

@KBC & 56K:

Thank you for demonstrating the counter-example.

Now, unitl I again forget the results of this recurrent debate, I will concede the existance of the Invisi-(subterranean) rock

. Granpa sluggy the exposed
