Forums Index >> General >> PETITION: TEAM SCRUM SERVER

Page : <1> :

REASON A: The indi servers entirely wasted in that they are overpopulate by GRIEFERS in a near-lagless environment.
REASON B: The third party team servers are suffering horrible with lag which is SUFFOCATING the community.
REASON C: There are no QUALITY team scrum servers anymore.
THEREBY: WE, THE COMMUNITY, DEMAND AN ADMINISTRATED TEAM SCRUM SERVER WITH QUALITY 3RD PARTY MAPS.

In that there is a paucity of quality servers for team play because

(1) the Independent and Team Scrum servers provided are dominated by players who demonstrate markedly poor sportmanship, inclluding SPAMing chat with obscene, racist, & abusive language;

(2) servers self-provided by members of the community have developed significant problems with lag making play difficult & uncertain:

We, the Think Tank Community of Veteran Players do hereby petition that at least one lag free server running a selection of Third party maps and Mods developed by the Community, including one of the Admin Scripts developed by Members of the Community, be provided for our use.

Laggy private servers have definitely been getting me down. It would be nice to be able to play some decent games on servers with other like minded individuals who aren't there to hurl insults or otherwise spoil a good time. Add me to the list!

If the MI location is adequate, I'd be more than happy to configure a server to your specification.

Otherwise, we're going to have to conduct a fund raiser and find a sponsor for a server in a Denver data center.

Someone explain to me what's wrong with Dash's, Rooster's, Nut's, Blind Cide's, and my servers? Don't we already have that? No complaining just looking for more detail.

Thanks!

Yes sometimes there is lag in MI,Dash. Rarely on Roos not sure for Nuts.Is it because Tally is on the west coast and the servers are closer to Us on east coast?

Either way I'm willing to pay for a better experience so sign me up.

Sign me up! I agree totally!

Also, admins, for the love of all that is good in TT, give us back the script that allows us to change our own color so we don't have to leave the server and comeback just to even up teams (green, blue or red)!

Can we get the observer script back too? I understand it was removed because of a hack problem, but I believe it has been resolved now.

Thanks!

@Pai,

The reason I user team changing from my servers is because they could just type /green or /blue for a new spawn, or they could type /green or /blue over and over and over and over and over to make their tank's spawning corpse "rain" over the map.

Like BC says, if we want this we are going to have to do it ourselves. No one is going to do it for us. I like the idea of putting our own server in the Denver data center. BC and I have done some research on this and it looks excellent (just costs $$$ that's all ;) ).

^ true that. It can be abused.

Friday, February 17, 2006 at 9:43:21 AM

To solve abuse give out admin passes to a trusted few, almost like it is now. Admins usaully are there to even out the teams and boot the SOBS.

I think this would be a great idea if I believed the problem was actually with the servers and not the game itself.

Didn't somebody get feedback from a game hosting company that said TT is a real bear to host?

There are enough admins in the games each night that the codes are not needed. I do however wish that changing colors autoimatically kicked bots just as if you were joining the servers. Having to leave and go out when an admin is present is a real pain in the tracks.

Another way of saying "not signing" is by "not posting."

Posting

(also commenting... As a west coast player I usually suffer bad, sometimes horrendous, fire rate, in dash's, leopards, BC's, NUTs servers. Will we ever be able to conquer the geographic divide? Will a Denver server be any better for all? Or just a medium point with mediocre play for all? Just asking. I can think of at least one Colorado resident who would be happy to light up my tank from such a server. XD )

Friday, February 17, 2006 at 12:48:40 PM

As Baba just said that he has horrible ping in those servers, I conversely ping at or below 70 in three of the four servers he mentioned. I remember playing in an AZ server in which I couldn't discern between his and one farther west and he is in Colorado. I, like you West Coast folk, feel like I'm stuck in mud on opposite coast servers.

I believe Nuts and BC can elaborate on the test servers they had put up from a few providers. That said, I think you should take it upon yourself and find a company to provide a test server in CO and establish first that it would be an upgrade.

Be careful when server shopping. If it seems cheap, it is cheap and low quality. Hosting companies oversell their bandwidth ( sell more than they have) and when everyone is using their share things grind to a snails pace. Hosting companies also like to pile as many accounts on a server as they can. So they cite awesome hardware specs but forget to tell you about the other 5000 sites hosted on that computer that suck up all the cpu cycles and memory and keep the server thrashing like a fish out of water. Try to get a dedicated server ( NOT Virtual dedicated ) or a place to colocate a server. If you guys need help with
this I know my way around this sort of stuff and will help with site selection.

Friday, February 17, 2006 at 2:34:16 PM

I had looked into having a game hosting site do it for us in one of there data centers. To make a long story short TT has what they consider to be "security" problem. Sometimes, for whatever reason in Windows and Linux the bots "play on" and usses all the CPU's processing ability. Doesn't always do that, just sometimes. When its working correctly, running a server for TT barely usses any CPU resources. Which is nice when sharing a CPU, unless bots play on. One of them mentioned that other games have had this issue but the game designer did an update and it took care of it. Not sure if its a simple update.

Mac colocation is what BC and I were looking at. That is where you supply your own box and send it to the facility.

Good idea. What prices you guys lookin' at?

Friday, February 17, 2006 at 7:06:19 PM

Colo is a good choice. If you can, visit the datacenter in person and get technical details on who their upstream provider is, Its no biggy
if they're not a tier 1 provider but their upstream provider should be. Don't pay less than $60.00/mo and expect anything good.

I'm in for a no lag server......my money will be there.

Friday, February 17, 2006 at 10:56:27 PM

I am in for this. Sorry it took so long to reply but as some of you know I was hit with 3 snow storms, in 36 hours :(

I am also sure Belikin would post if he could but the same storms that hit me, moved acrossed Lake Michigan and instead of dumbing snow on Belikin it dumbed Ice on him and took out his internet connection.
Spoke to him yesterday morning via phone !

If you guys find a solution let me know. Happy to chip in.

Similarly, the wiztriv server needs to be capped at 8. Any more than that and it goes to hell.

Aw, jest refer 'em ta John R. Bolton at the U.N.... XD

By my calculation the only place to locate a server that is equidistant from all TTankers is too deep and too warm to consider. :) B)

Count me in! TS really improves my scrum skills. I will always want to play indie but I would love dedicated TS servers.
