Is there a program available that will let me view my skins draped over the tank frame in real time, without having to enter and exit TT each time and try to get a look at the tank from the proper angle?

Maybe there is if you have MilkShape or something...

DTS files appear to be a proprietary 3D file for Torque Game Systems. I haven't been able to find a 3D viewer that can read them yet...

DTS files are, in theory, unopenable and unimportable because of their complexity. People have yet to figure out the inner workings of them, the only people who know are the people who made them, and I even think that was a little "hit or miss".

Phooey! My problem is that I want to make a skin that outlines the tank, and there's no good way to tell where the edges are. Guess I'll just have to keep doing it the hard way, 1 pixel at a time.

The DTS format is a proprietary format that the Torque Game Engine uses. The best way to look at the DTS files is in the 'showtool'. ThinkTanks does not have the show tool enabled in the shipping version, but the demo of the Torque game Engine and Realm Wars (both available on GarageGames) do...

Just run either of these apps from the command line (or from a shortcut) with the -show switch. This will open the showtool. The shapes have to be in the 'shapes' diercroty of the app with the showtool. The textures have to be in the same directory as the DTS shapes.

I once uploaded a set of texture templates showing the polygon outlines for all the tanks.. It is on the GarageGames forums somewhere.. If anyone has the link bookmarked, they should post it here.

Joe -

Did you realize you have 892 forum posts in the GarageGames forums? Nnnngggghh!!!

HOWEVER - the time it took me to find the right forum is many, MANY hours less than it would have taken me to rebuild these from scratch.

Thank you!!!

You are welcome,

Yeah, I have a lot of posts... I try to ber helpful to others working with the TGE. Good luck on the skins, and try out the TGE demo to get the showtool, it will help a lot.

Joe - your post shows up out of order. Wierd.

*shrugs*

Yah, I wanted to find the edges, since part of the skin I'm putting in has a pattern, and I want it to line up properly with the edges, and also along some of the edges I'm putting in edging/trim.

Joe,

I seem to be unable to get the Torque Demo to run the showtool. I've put the dts and jpg files in the tanks folder under shapes, in the shapes folder, and in the Torque Demo folder, and nothing. If I use the -dedicated switch, I get the error message Unknown Command Line Argument: tank01.dts

That's with the following command line prompt: demo -dedicated -show tank01.dts

I get the same error message if I put the path in front of the dts file as well.

Although the dancing orc is fun... XD
