DJ, what make and model of laptop is it?
BTW if your desktop PC is THAT slow, I would reccomend normal Ubuntu and installing XFCE for your window manager. I find it a lot faster and more functional than KDE. I use it on my desktop.
Be aware that XFCE does not play well with KDE.
IMO Fedora is a pain to do stuff with.
If XFCE doesn't work with KDE, that's out. I've grown fond of KDE, assuming I have all of GNOME's apps installed (not a prob if I have Synaptic). As for installing ANY kind of Linux on the desktop, fugheddaboudit. Ya see, this is my parents' computer, and they're happy with Windows for some reason. Well, about as happy as one can get with Windows, which isn't enough to get Gates bragging 'till Vista comes out...

Dang... Last time I try Damn Small Linux. Caution: excuse for not being on PTT since Monday follows.
Monday: Installed Damn Small to my laptop. Boot loader didn't recognize Kubuntu. As if that's not bad enough, DSL didn't support my WNIC, so I couldn't install anything using Synaptic OR use the Internet.
Tuesday: Tried to get DSL to do something useful (revert to Kubuntu), and failed miserably.
Wednesday: Installed Fedora over DSL. Fortunately, I had a Fedora DVD lying around. Unfortunately, it was version 1, and didn't recognize Kubuntu- again. Still no Internet.
Thursday: Played SuperTux, got bored, and decided to fix GRUB. And whaddya know, it worked! Except that Fedora's outdated version of GRUB still couldn't load Kubuntu.
Friday: I'm talking to you from my slow-as-hell Winblows desktop, the closest thing I have to a gaming rig. Currently downloading a Kubuntu image to make another install CD out of. Hopefully, this time, the GRUB'll recognize my old system. Hopefully...
And Cadc, I WILL be at the war tonight. On my sorry excuse for a 1337 machine.
For a birthday present, I could settle for a working Kubuntu system.
