This is pretty compelling stuff. Not only is the Bush administration censoring the press, but it's muzzling science and sacrificing the environment in the process.
The Attack on Global Warming

This is the most important thing happening in your lifetime.
Damn the future.

Oh! Funny! I found your study persival! Foes of global warming theory have energy ties

The study, "Reconstructing Climatic and Environmental Changes of the Past 1,000 Years: A Reappraisal," was published several weeks ago in a British scientific journal, Energy and Environment. The authors contend in the 65-page paper that their reanalysis of data from more than 200 climate studies provides evidence of global temperature shifts that are more dramatic than the current one.

The research was underwritten by the American Petroleum Institute, the trade association of the world's largest oil companies. Two of the five authors are scientists who have been linked to the coal industry and have received support from the ExxonMobil Foundation. Two others, who are affiliated with the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, also have the title of "senior scientists" with a Washington-based organization supported by ExxonMobil Corp .

Ouch!

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/124642_warming02.html

So, have exxon mobil fund a "study" by people on its payroll, and then get an AEI member who is also a journalist to report it.

You never cease to amaze me persival. Where was your skepticism when you wrote that paper? ( I assume those sources you listed came from a college paper?). Egads!

Its funny, but you are like JJ, only the lite version. intellectual dishonesty, its called.

Actually, no, that's not the article.

Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 4:16:53 PM

No, but that is the study the article refers to, is it not?

In the Russian northernmost territory of Chukotka, the Inuit have drilled wells for water because there is so little snow to melt. Reykjavik, Iceland, had its warmest February in 41 years. In Alaska, water normally sealed by ice is now open, brewing winter storms that lash coastal and river villages. Federal officials say two dozen native villages are threatened. In Pangnirtung, residents were startled by thunder, rain showers and a temperature of 48 degrees in February, a time when their world normally is locked and silent at minus-20 degrees.

Skeptics, however, said that despite the rising temperature, "It is still much colder than we are used to, which we think makes it plenty cold enough."

Persival: it most certainly is the study -- http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1:75563003/Harvard+Expert+Debunks+Global+Warming+%60Models%7eR%7e(astrophysicist+Sallie+Baliunas).html?refid=SEO

C'mon dude, nut up and borrow some integrity.

Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 6:54:58 PM

Lol tally. Cold enough to keep on keepin' on.

Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 6:56:06 PM

No Stink, it's not the same study. Look at the dates. It looks like some of the researchers were the same, though. Guess that proves that global warming is real, eh? :)

Regardless, there are still dissenting opinions with some basis in scientific evidence (the three links I posted were hardly exhaustive), and that was the jist of my post. Lighten up, man, I'm not trying to fight with you here.

Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 7:15:12 PM

Hardly exhaustive, or hardly legitimate? Ok, I'm lightening up. See > :) its a smiley!

JJ

Keep em cornfused, fellers.

A freshman at Eagle Rock Junior High won first prize at the Greater Idaho Falls Science fair. He was attempting to show how conditioned we have become to alarmists practicing junk science and spreading fear of everything in our environment.

In his project he urged people to sign a petition demanding strict control or total elimination of the chemical “dihydrogen monoxide.” And for plenty of good reasons:

1. It can cause excessive sweating and vomiting

2. It is a major component of acid rain

3. It can cause severe burns in its gaseous state

4. Accidental inhalation can kill you

5. It contributes to erosion

6. It decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes

7. It has been found in tumors of terminal cancer

He asked fifty people if they supported a ban of the chemical.

Forty-three said yes and six were undecided. Only one knew that the chemical, “dihydrogen monoxide” was water. The title of his prize winning project was, “How Gullible are We?” He feels the conclusion is obvious.

I thought it was interesting because of how it shows that people decide “good and bad” (or evil) without knowing both sides or realizing the consequences of their decisions. Sort of like basing decisions regarding foreign policy on information that they are receiving from one side of the debate.

I'm not sure death by drowning would fall under the category of gullibility.

Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 1:22:47 PM

^^^ lol, JJ. That is an awesome idea for a science project. Not quite as good as this one . :)

HE STOLE THAT!!!!

There was already a website that has been up for years that said exactly what he said!!

Stealer.

Pray to GOD for him to reveal himself to you.

And apparently this gullibility is meant to be extended to this argument as well.
we've only been getting one side of the argument, promulgated by alarmists at NASA after they threw of the WH yoke...

Its all alarmist propaganda. The truth on this matter is actually the version the White house and Exxon is peddling.
how likely is that?

Funny, right on cue to JJ. The "one side of the story" meme is currently what the Bu$h Co public (mis)speaking tour is meant to convey. The "educator in chief" is trying to reeducate the 66% of americans who think he is a chimp that they are the victim's of the liberal press' defeatist propaganda.

You see, we are actually winning in Iraq.

You see, global warming isn't happening.

Why can't you people see that? Because you've only been getting "one side of the story."

Incidently:

Katrina didn't happen
there is no republican scandal
we are not shipping jobs overseas
there is no record spending, its record saving
there is no record deficit, its actually a huge surplus
there is no trade deficit, its again, a huge surplus
you actually have more civil liberties than before 9/11
bush is at 99% approval
cheney is the guy who got shot
we are loved world wide
and saddam hussein is actually ossam bin laden

You'd know this already if you would stop listening to the GD defeatist, alarmist, liberal press! WAKE UP! WAKE UP!

Did anyone know that in the Vikings actually farmed Iceland and Greenland? The Vikings were in north America, when? 1300's. Hmm global warming.... Do you think their ships were gas powered or were beans the staple of the diet in those days.

You all know that "global warming" is cyclical. I know we pollute too much, but then here we go again, lets blame it on Bush. Hell, Clinton was in office for 8 years to Bush's 6 (to this point). How convenient. Lets blame it on Bush. I probably woudln't vote for him again myslef , but again it amuses me to see you guys blame everything on Bushy just because you didnt get your way 2yrs ago. Get a grip.

Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 6:13:34 PM

Kyoto Protocol
Ever heard of that?
Ever heard WHO decided NOT to sign it?
Republican legislators are currently opposing strict emissions regulations in California and many other states.
Sounds like they're from big companies, too.
I could quote dozens of articles but I'm too lazy right now. 'S after 9 and my mom wants me to get to sleep.

Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 6:21:25 PM

Profoundly simplistic analogical reasoning there, hillbilly. But moving beyond that silliness, the point here isn't that Bush is to blame for global warming, but for deliberately suppressing scientific studies and reports about global warming, in case you've forgotten the lead post. Additionally, he's being blamed for his inaction.

"you guys blame everything on Bushy just because you didnt get your way 2yrs ago" so I take it you got your way? what exactly did you win in that bargain?

Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 6:36:34 PM

Lets see, what I get? $2.59 for gas today....

While listening to Fox radio during my road travels during work they had a good question for listeners to call in on, "would you pay extra for a bio friendly gas mix (corn) until the technology cought up with the cost?" My answer would have been "yes" if it was less than a.20/gallon raise in price. I drive more than 700 miles per week so that's my excuse.

So what you get in the bargain is validation I guess. Btw: why 700 miles a week?

Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 8:11:54 PM

Kkb, some critical thinking would serve you well instead of this knee-jerk defensiveness.

Stink: I'm a manufacturers rep. My territory is the southern half of Ohio and Northern Kentucky, plus parts of West Virginia and Indiana. Lotsa driving my friend.

Anyone know of a left leaning radio show (other than dumb ass Jerry Springer) and I'll open the cranium and give it a try. Maybe you all can weaken me from my centrist stance. ;)

Friday, March 24, 2006 at 5:16:04 AM

Dude, that aint a centrist stance! Centrism is NPR. I recommend it generally. You may or may not have Air America in your neck of the woods. There are a couple of shrill sensationalists...but I like Al Franken's show. You may find Ed Shultz more to your liking, more center left. He's a good guy. Give it a whirl.

Friday, March 24, 2006 at 7:55:34 AM

Thought I'd chime in here (especially since I've been referred to). I even bothered skim the surface of all the posts. :)

I was watching the BBC News on PBS and saw a story on the melting glaciers in Greenland. Regardless of the cause, its happening. Same is true for the ice caps at the poles. Out of curiousity, I tried finding a map that would show what the earth would look like with sea levels up 20ft, but I couldn't find the right combo of words for Google.

Anyway, to me it makes sense to believe that global warming could occur. I'm sure there are cycles of temperature change throughout the life of earth (be that 10K or 4.5B years, doesn't matter), but with people burning more of everything and clearing more forest it stands to reason that the earth will reach a point where it can't process the pollutants released into the environment and things start changing. Its kinda like being in a night club. Early in the evening, its nice, cool and clear, but after of few hours of grinding that foxy little Hispanic babe, the place is crowded, hot and filled with smoke. The building's environmental systems can't handle the waste so you gotta say, Hey, how about some fresh air? We can go to my...ah...but I digress. ;)

The point is, it just makes sense that such a thing could happen. It also makes sense to try to find ways to be more environmentally friendly. I want that cool, sleek future we saw in I, Robot , not the one in Blade Runner .

Friday, March 24, 2006 at 11:55:31 AM

Stink: Will do. I am not trying to fight you all. I just have my opinions. It is so wild that there is no one further to the right than me on all these threads. Believe me you I am not what you all think I am, but I find it humorous how everyone is bashing the right. Any left basing?

Friday, March 24, 2006 at 7:45:59 PM

Rabban you seem to speak from experience.

Pray to GOD for him to reveal himself to you.

Friday, March 24, 2006 at 8:42:43 PM

KKB: we leave the left bashing up to 44. He's the only one who can ever mount a serious challenge, though he does it mostly to entertain himself, and to keep me busy I think. We've had folks further to the right than you, but we drove them off and converted the remaining one. :)

In real life, I tend to bash the "center" lefties and the far left lefties.

Seriously, give NPR a shot. That fox news is just plain beneath you. Its beneath every one who's interested in a more honest discussion.

Friday, March 24, 2006 at 10:15:44 PM

Rabban love your analogy by the way! I remember those nights at the clubs and can totally relate, except for the grinding part. I wouldn't do that at the club ALL night, usually part of the night and then save the best for later. XD

Be worried, be very worried.

The climate is crashing, and global warming is to blame.

No one can say exactly what it looks like when a planet takes ill, but it probably looks a lot like Earth.

Never mind what you've heard about global warming as a slow-motion emergency that would take decades to play out. Suddenly and unexpectedly, the crisis is upon us.
