CRAZY 50 bucks to fill

Not as bad as Europe... Here, it costs about 1 Euro 40 centimes per 1 litre, and we have a 55 litre tank in our car. That's about 77 Euros to fill up our car!! Do the conversion from Euro to Dollar, and that's $100!!! :S

Here's an option:
What model is that one, Baba? I've never seen it before, and my family is currently looking into buying a hybrid car. :)
Time for my old guy act:
Yeah, I remember back in the day when gas was $0.29 9/10 a gallon, and now I'm seeing prices approach ten times that!
Unbelievable. Get those fuel cell cars going, folks!
Its bush...............................HE's SICK!!!!
ROAR!! XO XO XO
Fake man of god!!!!!
ROAR!!!! XO XO
He is giving all the money to his buddies in the gas co.

^ ROTFLMAO :P
@Spunky
That is the Honda Civic Hybrid.
I have been very happy with it.
average mileage mid 40's (never believe what the EPA ratings are, they are always way too high, especially for hybrids it seems - they must test them in Kansas or something, because going up hills , rapid acceleration will affect mileage)
The Honda Civic Hybrid "looks normal" (some of the early hybrids looked , well, like a hybrid), has good interior leg room (we be tall), and Honda's are as steady and reliable as they come.
The Toyota Prius is in their second generation now and is very popular. It gets a higher gas mileage I believe, maybe not as roomy in the backseat.
Many more Hybrids hitting the market now - SUV's, MiniVans, sedans, Pickups too I believe.
It is just beginning to catch fire, though with these gas prices becoming the norm they will gain even more popularity.
The Japanese, as usual, have beaten the Americans out of the blocks, though Detroit is struggling to catch up.
Lots of waiting to see if the public would really pay more now for savings later.
Now car companies are scrambling to bring more to market
Also good tax benefits in purchasing a hybrid ($2000 tax deduction for me), some local areas, states have other perc's - access to carpool lanes, etc.
This is really just a bridge technology until we can rid ourselves of the oil addiction/dependence once and for all.
But given the snakepit of economic and political interests who favor remaining oil dependant (at the expense of ripping up Alaska, killing more young Americans and citizens of other countries, further spoiling our air and environment) we may be on this bridge for a while.
The U.S. Has been so slow/resistant to funding research into alternative fuels and energy sources it is a crime.
This should have been done decades ago.
The writing has been on the wall for ages.
Cheers!

You granola crunching liberal
Yup:)
and I just slipped some tofu in my kids breakfast burrito...
Yum! I love that curdled soya milk mixed with coagulant stuff.
Freakin' hilarious thread.
I myself have a new Civic Si that's been off the road since December. I've worried to put it back on after all this nonsense the iV-TECH engine requires the premium gas :( :( It gets great milage though and I'm also planning on putting in a Electronic Fuel Regulater in so I can decrease what it burns during regular drives. That or I might just have to get a hybrid like Baba :(
I luv de new gassy prices since da sales of thy SUV's are going down.
You should feel lucky if you live in the USA. The USA has the cheapest psices aound if you campare with other countries.
Lets all go to Venezuela with 55 gallon barrels!
I never considered going to the middle east to fight for any cause until I filled up my jeep for $40 bucks!!
Where's my tank?
B
Bolo you made me smile with that "so called joke" :P
Cloud
29 cents! When was this like in the 30's lgm? XD
Cloud
LOL!
I was a little kid and remember the signs in the early 60s. By the time I started driving it was in the 55-65 cent range. $5 bought enough gas to run a V8 pig for a night of cruising...
EDIT- I thought y'all might not believe me, so I found an interesting article that explains gas prices pretty well. (and it verifies my 30 cent a gallon claim, too). LINKY

Ahh, Americans and their vehicles. Baba, you are an exception among us. My father had a business selling electric cars from 1975-80. He had Zagato elcars and the EVA Metro, a converted Renault 4 door R-12. You couldn't give the things away. The first question was always "how long is the power cord?". If you can't jump in and drive coast to coast, Americans won't give it a second look.
The problem is not government funded research. There has been plenty of that. It's all about trip planning, which Americans are unwilling/unable to do. I can't remember the statistics exactly but most families had a "second" car that never went beyond the range (approx. 60 miles) of electric cars. Americans are ignorant asses in regards to transportation.
[sidenote] We entered a modified (96v vs 48v) Elcar in the SCCA autocross (pylon course). Because 95% of the weight was below the top of the tires they had phenomenal handling. We won and by the next race the rules had been changed to exclude electrics. :P

BC, it's not just ignorance, it's laziness too. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people jump in their car to go the grocery store or market 6 blocks away from them. I've seen it! Freakin' lazy bums! Go out for a walk, and help unclog that heart! No wonder America is known as the land of fat lard asses.
OM, how could we possibly feel safe on the sidewalk with Bolo cruising in his 4 wheel drive?!
{WalMart free for over 24 months!}
@ BC,
interesting about those electrics.
Yes Americans have always prided themselves on that "independent spirit".
It has been a recurring theme since the colonists arrived in India, whoops, make that North America.
It seems the auto has become the symbol for that independent spirit.
A symbol cultivated, in part, by the auto makers, to be sure.
Indeed the classic example of General Motors undermining public transport in Los Angeles, thus 'paving' the way for more GM auto and bus sales is an extreme but gross case in point.
The irony is that icon for independence has bred a new dependence.
The advantage of the hybrids is that they require no power cords, no plug in...just turn key and zoom.
The battery regenerates from braking and coasting.
Indeed it is a technology in transition, but the supplies of oil are finite.
we must look towards the future now.
Well here's an article for all you hybrids folks out there.
What would Jesus Drive?
I was shocked yet convinced that the wittenburg door is indeed correct in their evaluation, the suburban is indeed Jesus' best choice for personal transportation.
Yea I saw a show last week taht showed a gass price that over $4!!!!!!!! And here in good ol' South Dakota we have 2.25 9/10
Ahhh I wonder why its low??? *cough bush cough*
HAHA lol california gas prices alone. But Bay area gas prices lol near 60 to fill. How bout you baba and rx, tally local gas prices?
Cloud
I live within a few miles of one of the biggest oil refineries on the West Coast. The oil companies offload millions of barrels and process it into fuels. So, that means cheap gas, right? No way. A good price here is $2.54 9/10
I would be so happy to see a gas stationt had 2.54. I'd be happy if it said 2.65
Cloud
Here is a local pic from my nearest gas station...
The gas station down the street from my office is down 2 cents (2.19) from last week. This is a day to rejoice :)
The last time that we were in America, the gas prices were down at around $2.00 9/10 per gallon. Hopefully the inflation will stop soon, or some people will have to *gasp* buy electric cars! %)
@Baba
Thanks for the info! My mom and dad seemed generally impressed, especially with the part about how it can hold tall people. My dad is 6'3" and has a hard time with cars that are tiny. Just one question - is there any electric/hybrid car that's big enough for a dog to sit in? Our dog isn't a small dog, either - part husky, part lab, part rottweiller, and part great dane. Our only concern with buying a small car would be getting our dog in and out of it comfortably and giving it room to sit / lie down.
Wow,hybrids get 40mpg ,my ninivan gets 20;
so on the same trip I buy 2x the gas and thus
pay 2x the tax, but yet I use the road the same.
NOT FAIR You hybrid guys should pay twice
the tax on each gallon , You can afford,it your
only buying 1/2 the gas, its time you pay your
fair share XD
And then they give you a tax break to buy the car???? ;)
T raider
Wait, what was that about tax break? Are there any companies that make small 4x4 hybrids? I live in the midwest, and that little thing won't make it in the snow. But would love to pay less in fuel, as well as do my part in an environmental way. Darn california weather anyway.
A few links here I found:
some good info and links on this site:
List of available hybrid cars/trucks and those coming soon
Tax incentive info:
Hybrid tax incentives
The Federal tax incentives were due to start phasing out last year, though they were extended through 2005 and may be extended again, keep checking back!
Link for State tax incentives - not sure how up to date it is though, I would dig deeper as these have been changing a lot
list of State tax incentives for hybrids
@ Spunky - check out that first link for available models that would be family and dog friendly.
My neighbor is going to trade in his current Toyoyta SUV for a Higlander
. He too has large dogs. I think they have a wait list on these cars so you would want to contact a dealer to get in line for when they are released later this year.
Keep buying those riceburners...
