@ SK
At last a fellow dj and dance music fan Woot............
I have been DJing since I was 17, that makes it hmmmm 18 years. Also started in the rave scene late 80's early 90's and caried on working 2-4 nights a week in clubs and bars. I officially retired about 3 years ago but still do around 6-8 nights per year, usually for old promoters and friends. I still play at least twice a week at home for a few hours, in fact just had a session this morning.
My equipment, well I own 4x Technics 1200's 1 x Numark 1975 (original mixer before they went bust) 1 x Numark DM3002EX mixer But my favorite bit of kit is my 1.5K Electrovoice active sound system powered by Amcron (Crown) amps with Rane equalisers and crossovers - Kicks a$$!!!! B)
Records, well lost count - they are everywhere- lol
CD mixing, hmmm not for me, I'm a vinyl junkie true to the old days. However I sometimes mess about with PCDJ FX which is a great programme, it just makes mixing to easy, personally I like to feel the vinyl...............
I lived in Sydney in the mid 90's (Darling Harbour) and was a regular at the Decadance nights, Blue Fox Club, etc etc - perhaps I heard you play somewhere?
Respect
Daz

@ Dazzle,
You played at Decadence parties eg the Madhatter, amongst others, then I must know who you are. This is really scary stuff, I have to know under what name you went under. I am DJing at a event in Opera House next week.

@ SK
No I never played at Decadance just went there a lot, I had tunes with me while I was in OZ and every intention of gettin on the scene but instead had a good trime just dancing my ass off ;) But I did play a few nights here and there, a couple at the Rhino Bar in Darlinghurst Road Kings X if I remember rightly, but that was all 10 years ago.
Would Like to hear what kind of tunes your into and where you play and at what nights, next time I am over I may come and check your skills out XD
I have checked some of the dates in the dairy I kept whilst in Sydney, some of these you might remember:
Decadance 23rd December 1995 Paul Ockenfold at a mad Venu in Kings X (was the old Pracilla type place near that crazy fountain)
Love Is '96 New Years Eve at the Metro - now I remember that what a top venue and what a mental night!!!
Decadance 2nd March 1996 - Mardi Gras weekend Bash held outside in the golf driving range on Pitt Street
Blackmarket - John Digweed 9th March 1996 - yep sorta remember that night as well - God DJ that man XD
Decadance 6th April 1996 - Exchange Hotel Oxford Street, met an old friend from school that night and travelled with them for the next year!!
Double Trouble - 25th April 1996 Tall Paul and Seb Fontain Blue Fox Club - Anzac weekend the start of a messy one.................
Funk Inc - 27th April 1996 CBD Hotel, Normal Jay - love that man, he got the funk............
There are loads more but could not find all the details in my diary, but also used to regularly go to the Bentey Bar, Fringe Bar and many others on Oxford Street etc. Also saw Fat Boy Slim at the Metro in 1997 well before he was famous.....................
In recent years when I have been over for Xmas have always been to field day on Bondi
I dug around and found these in a box --- man cant believe I still got them.
This is where I used to live in Darling harbour, wicked place and had some mental times there

I think the venue that you are referring to is Les Girls, and I was there that night. Venue has two levels. I was next to Paul during his set, and I was recipient of Perfecto give aways that night. It was a crazy night. Problem was the lack of air conditioning, or enough of it.
I am a big fan of vinyl, however over the 5 years I have been using my CDJ's extensively. I tend to use both during the course of a mix, and don't limit myself to anyone format.
@ VashStampede,
Nice to see that there are others other than me whom love to mix, no matter at what level.
As a DJ I tend to play anything from soulful house music all the way to dirty/funky/electro house. Depends on the night or event. My artists include the legendary Leftfield (whom are no longer together), Deep Dish, Bob Sinclair, DJ Sneak, Subliminal Records (great record label) amongst many more.
If anyone knows who to build an FTP server I will be uploading my mixes for people to download and listen to all in high MP3 format.

@SK
Les girls is correct and yes I remember it was mental hot in there, I specifically recall him playing Technocat and the place going mad.
Love your music taste especially Leftfield, IMO probably the best dance music ever produced...................... Not Forgotten - devine tune
Will check out your mixes when they are avaliable
Somewhere I have got loads more flyers from that time, if I ever find them will posta a few
Nice #1

@ Vash,
I have seen the Chemicals live a few times. The show is amazing to watch, and the music... Well I'm sure you know.
If you after nice electro tracks, then check out TV Rock - Flaunt It. The song is a la The Fruit by Sander K. With nice production. There was a recent relase of Vogue as sung originally by Madonna by a group called Paffendorf. This is going to be a big track. It is electro house with tough beats. Sampling has been nicely done "Ladies with an attitude".
I'd love to know what you're Top 10 songs you are hammering or maybe a Top 10 tunes. This goes for you too Dazzle.
SK
I play mainly mod 80's
(not in any order)
1.smalltown boy - bronski beat
2.the metro - berlin
3.obsession - animotion
4.rio - duran duran
5.every day like sunday - morrissey
6.sex dwarf - soft cell
7.happy house - siouxise and the banshees
8.its my life - talk talk
9.big mouth strikes again - morrissey
10.everything counts - depeche mode
Thats just a few off my set....play them at the right tempo and order
to the right crowd... U will have the floor moving.
Peace
P.s. Chembros do rock live.
@ Vash,
Nice selection there. For your info I've seen the Smiths live (as you know Morrisey was their lead singer). I was pretty much into this music a while back, there are some classics there. I play some of the new Depeche Mode remixes that have come out over the years and always seem to be party favourites.
SK
PS:- If Basement Jaxx over get over to the States spend some money on tickets, you won't be disappointed they are real class, similar to the C B 's.
P,
Reggae and jungle seem to be pickin-up speed here in
the US. Its slow but more and more clubs are starting
to play it. (and its about time)
SK,
The older crowd here in the US cant get enough of those
80's tunes...i guess they bring back memories of pass
glory...LOL
I kinda like Basement jaxx but I never heard them live so
maybe I'll check em out some day....

My name is serial killa and I have been a DJ here in Sydney for over 10 years. I started DJing here in Sydney when the rave movement began in the late 80's/early 90's. I have been passionate about music.
Today I play house music, djing at various venues around Sydney.
I have grown a collection of over 10,000 records, 4000 cd singles, countless LPs/albums, and have over 50 of quality MP3's, and growing.
My set up consists of 2 x Denon CDJ5000, 1 x Vestax PCV275, 2 x Technics 1200's, 1 x Roland MC-505 (which I am starting to muck around with), along with a Roland RS-5 midi/keyboard.
I am in the process of recording a number of mixes which I will upload on a FTP site for peoples pleasure to upload.
I am curious if anyone has created an FTP server, or is there an easier way to do this?
Are there any other DJ's in TT?
