Hi all,

I am starting to notice another swell of discontent in the community with an increase in troublesome gamers coming out from under the rocks. The Ying has had a nice run, here come da yang. (As of this writing, 30% of the threads on the first page are based on negative issues and harrassement from other players)

As such, I thought a "zen-thread" would be a nice diversion.

The question here is... What is your favorite music to listen to when you are in the game?

Weird Al is always a nice disversion for me. Of course, when he gets boring, I listen to ambient music.

Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 10:45:56 AM

When I am in the game, I have an iTunes set called "Think Tanks" that includes about 300 songs.

Think Tanks is an adrenaline pumping game so much of the music I listen to supports the rush.

Although I love a wide variety of music, TT is all rock and abstract rock by artist such as:

Radiohead

Soundgarden

AC/DC

Aerosmith (circa "Toys in the Attic")

Stone Temple Pilots

Eminem

Then an assortment of Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Yes, etc.

The music is loud....really loud, and I feel like I can't possibly win unless the music is playing and my little tank is rockin.

Katherine....

I like weird Al Also........but.........Rap probably...

Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 10:58:51 AM

@TG: Did you say Enimem? They're the best!!

Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 11:14:39 AM
OM

@Cyber- "Eminem" is a "they"?

May seem strange, but when I'm playing I don't listen to any music. I keep the built-in game music down to a low. Somehow music playing in the background distracts me. I also like the audible feedback of things like the "tinks" when my tank gets hit, etc. So music playing would obscure some of that for me.

Hmm, not sure why I even responded to this

OM

Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 11:41:57 AM

Did I say "they"? I meant "he's". Typos, hate 'em

Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 12:00:59 PM

Hmmmm....varies. Has to be fast, though.

Offspring (favorite for the week)

Rob Zombie

AC/DC

Green Day

Blink-182

GodSmack

AeroSmith (pretty much any of their 20yr career)

Eminem

Nickelback

Puddle of Mudd

Oh yes...and Rammstein!

Only have 1 Weird Al song in the queue: Trigger Happy. Very fitting.

I play Thinktanks by sound, for example, if I hear bullets hitting the ground near me, I start zagging to avoid getting shot. So, I only use the default music on very low.

Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 5:17:49 PM

I don't really listen to it at all, I just like playing the thing!

I can't stop spinning the Audioslave disc of late.

Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 5:59:11 PM

NINE INCH NAILS - CLOSER TO GOD is da best. Creepy songs rock.

Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 6:06:34 PM

For those of you that can't play with the music on, I think you are missing out on something great! (in my opinion of course).

For me, the music elevates my gameplay. I still hear all the game sounds, but I need a groove to play to. With the music blaring, I feel like my little tank is dancing across the map.....I can't imagine playing the game without music anymore. I just enhances the entire experience.

But Anyway , aliens? Mulling It Over and Dropping Some NYC are pretty good ones, too, off of their first CD. Ahh, brings back memories of college... Lots of cheap beer, sand volleyball, wooden deck. Primus pops their heads into that stream, too... Wow! Time warp...

But back to the question, I listen to music when not playing in league or tourney games (there's plenty of natural adrenaline then!) and when I'm at home instead of at the office late. I've got a pretty wide selection, mainly dependent on my mood: Squirrel Nut Zippers, Dave Matthews, Led Zep (and a few other harder classic rock groups), the edgier Melissa Etheridge stuff, Hoodoo Gurus, Lenny Kravitz... And I'm glad to see someone else thinks wierd Pete is TTmusic, too, K8!

Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 6:24:08 PM

Listen to music of PRODIGY,RAMMSTEIN,DREAM THEATER mainly while play a game.and enjoy guitar player's music else. MARTY FRIEDMAN,YNGWIE MALMSTEEN,TONY MACALPINE,ERIC JOHNSON.......

Of course I love korean music.

I found that iTunes slowed the game down a bit on my older machine and so a have gotten used to playing in silence mode. I never tried turning off the TT sound and just playing music though. I will have to try that some time.

Perhaps Reggae would be nice, or some Zeppelin.

It's all good... Except country! There is very little country that I can tolorate...

Charlie Daniels Band, and Wilie Nelson are of the few exceptions...

But I also like classical and jazz music... I listen to smooth Jazz while I work, it keeps my nerves mellow,,,

Sting is one of my all time favorites... And of course, all of the above... Deep down inside, I'm an old school medal head! I'll take Metalica over anything else any day of the week!

Sunday, February 01, 2004 at 2:53:46 PM

I guess I will need to buy a set of good headphones since I usually play when my kids are sleeping and banging my head will NOT help them sleep. Though I may be able to influence their taste in music this way, I wouldnt want to and it would just disturb the game. Sooooooo, since I dont own headphones, does anyone have suggestions on which are the best??

@Vanbu...

You listen to the in-game music for hours on end? Fix that problem or you will go insane.

Haha max....i like reggae also but I cant listen to that while plaing TT.....its way to peacefull!

Sunday, February 01, 2004 at 4:57:29 PM

I've never bothered to listen to music besides the ingame when I play, it seems to fit TT pretty well to me.. Of course obviously this opinion is unpopular.. Don't feel bad vanbuskirk! We can go insane together %)

Sunday, February 01, 2004 at 6:52:54 PM

Country music to Think Tanks? That just doesn't seem right. Wait...yes it does! <picks up guitar>

---------

"It all seemed so easy...woah woah,

When I registered the game.

But them came along Tally...yah yah,

And took my scrum again."

---------

"Well, every tank looks to TankGirl...uh huh,

As if they had a chance.

But not one could stop her...no way,

She scores with but a glance."

---------

Actually, I think that would put me over the edge. Country to Think Tanks? Baklava you have a special kind of insanity.

And various film scores.

@TG

I think we'd be bringing down the sanity of the world if we tried to mix the dress-code of Metal and R&B with the twang of country music. ;)

@baklava

Yah, we can take it to the yard! Your Hank Williams spouting pickup against my Rob Zombie blasting M1A1 tank!

:P

No offense, it's just country seems a tad laid back is all. It seems to help your game enough, though!

@TG-

OK, I have to admit, I think you and the rest of you music players are on to something here.

After reading your thread, and your subsequent "challenge" to non-music players, if I can call it that, I was intrigued by this, and started experimenting.

I was just in 2 Scrum games back to back, while playing a special "ThinkTanks" playlist, and they were the best 2 Scrum games I've ever had!! It was so strange, my game was just "on" somehow!

JamesBomb, aka macr0t0r was in the 1st one. He can attest to it. Now, I'm not saying I'm suddenly an expert scrum player, but I really believe it made a big improvement to my game. I've never considered myself much of a Scrummer, but you wouldn't have known that by the way I played just now. Totally wierd!

I have to experiment more with this. I'm hoping, no, praying, that it wasn't just a fluke. I hope the new groove I had just now sticks with me.

Thanks for turning me on to this, seriously! I'm beginning to think I really WAS missing something.

Oh, and here is a snap of the paylist I have so far. 2 hours of play exactly.

Sunday, February 01, 2004 at 9:35:28 PM

@ OM,

Music does elevate ones gameplay....no doubt about it. The flip side is that (for me) when the game is going against you, the music can sometimes become an irritant.....but mostly it is all good.

Geek moment....sometimes I get chills when I fire up iTunes, then launch TT, and whatever song is playing is just building up to the chorus as my tank drops onto the map....Makes me feel superhuman....gives me geek goosebumps. God that is a good moment.

The best moments are when the music seems to choreograph to the game......awesome. Feels like flying, dancing, and street fighting at the same time....

Oops, I am giving away a little too much eh?

Hi All,

When I play TT I need to listen to something that has NRG written all over it. Give me UK Hard House/Rave/Hard Core/etc anyday of the week. I usually listen to mixes, rather than individual songs, as this creates the atmosphere and the frame of mind I seek.

Www.globalbeatz.net

This site is a good source of mixes ranging from drum'n'bass to hardcore. For lovers of dance music don't go past this site (all styles catered for).

Take Care,

X-Girl (Xtreme Girl)

My hubby fatman (FH) doesnt listen to music like most people do. He prefers to listen to his police scanner instead especially when there is a chase on or something major has happened.

Personally I prefer to listen to chart music like eminem , 50 cent , sean paul but ill listen to anything

Heh, I suppose the Classical music is what keeps me chilled out whilst playing and being asked a question every 30 seconds.

As for driving to it, I find it very graceful, like ice skating, especially when sliding your light tank around and through a rocky area or pirhouetting with the scrum and driving off backwards whilst unleashing a few volleys into those pursuing.

My 'geek goosebumps' come from hitting a good lauch pad and zipping away from the pack right as a piece (particulaly one of Puccini or Verdi's arias) hits its crescendo.

Then of course, there are pieces like Wagner's 'Ride of the Valkyries' or Mussorgsky's 'Night on the Bare Mountain' which can get the adrenaline pumping nicely when more of a battlemode approach is needed, and is perfect when trying to make up all that distance and come charging in at the last moment to clear away a path for you scrum bearing team.

YA Wager's 'Ride The Valyries' and Siegfried's Funeral March(Specially this music does me to really excitement.Make to feel like the soldier who I am combatant) I like this album 'Der Ring des Nibelungen' Opera Tetralogy.

KIM(FH)

Monday, February 02, 2004 at 10:24:13 AM

Hm, -z-, your 'geek goosebump' moment gives me an idea: how about a TT score that was somewhat influenced by the actions in the game? Crescendo's for speed pads, a moment of light, airy strings for jump pads, thunderous rolling drums for those killer volleys laid into an opponent, and perhaps some brooding near-death-scene stuff when your smoke gets thick... Weaved into the background soundtrack. I'm SURE it wouldn't help the la aa aa ag problem, though!

Monday, February 02, 2004 at 11:37:39 AM

Well, were all the party people, I like to listen to;

Juan Atkins

Carl Cox

Micro

Tall Pual

Jon Bishop

Cirrus

And some Electro Clash.

I use the beats to dodge bullets.

Plur....

Monday, February 02, 2004 at 3:58:15 PM

@ kimmy: wow we really are simialar in guitar players. My first = john petrucci, then yngwie malmsteen, michael romeo, steve vai, marty friedman, joe satriani. Petrucci is more versatile than the rest. At G3 he kicked vai and satch's butts!! Yeah cool!! This G3 malmsteen sucked. I couldnt believe it. They say he lost it. Serves him right for being the biggest jerk that he is. Oh well. Got a friend that delivered pizza to his house in boston. Got a full tour. I was impressed.

My favorite classical player is Takashi Yoshimatsu's. He is super human. I can play about anything but his stuff. Check out his recording of stravinsky's firebird symphony.

-john mclaghlin)

-al dimolea) -> Live in san francisco - best accoustic album ive heard

-mario ?)

(cant spell their names)

Check out kingofguitar.net -> steven king played in my home town and I met him. Insane fingerpicker!!!

Monday, February 02, 2004 at 5:51:02 PM

Ok james. Ill take on your wimpy little M1A1 Abrams. I hope you're the gunner or at least driver cause this is one on one.

Monday, February 02, 2004 at 8:08:44 PM

@bak

Lol! Wimpy? What the hell are you driving, an Expedition or something? Anyhow, hope to cross paths with you in the field. I'll imagine your tank wearing a cowboy hat instead of a scrum.

-JamesBomb

Tuesday, February 03, 2004 at 12:43:56 AM

Whoa there cowboy. Liking country music doesnt make me a cowboy. I've only ridden a horse once in my life.

Anywho, I'm only 14 and can't drive so I'll be taking you on driving a 4-wheeler. I notice you didnt say anything about where you sit in the tank so im bettin your not the gunner or driver. So that limits you to what? A 50 cal.?

Tuesday, February 03, 2004 at 1:01:07 AM

@BOLO

Thank you for musician's music and site that you recommend to me.

Should buy all records. :) :)

Ps: PLEASE do not call me as kimmy because I' m man(in the korea man or woman have KIM by last name. About 20% of entire population)
