It looks like you've already taken some good steps... Cleaning out the dust inside and working on getting a better video card. I'd be wondering what was smoking in there, though.
I'd recommend getting your RAM up to 512. It might really enhance your computer's ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time, or handle single large tasks. RAM isn't very costly anymore. 128MB seems kinda puny now.

The other day, I googled my pc model (hp pavilion304w), just out of curiosity. It's a few years old, and I couldn't remember the specs. I have 128MB RAM, and a 40 GB hard drive. LOL! I'm bidding on a memory card on eBay right now.
Recentley, I took it apart for the first time to clean it, and there were smoke marks on the inside of the case! Hooray for hp, it's amazing I'm able to do anything over here.
What's under your hood? Anybody else using an old clunker? Any advice on how to improve my situation without taking Ol' Yeller out back?
