Tonight we ( I will not mention names ) play a lot of games of scrum. The last 2 where blow outs, real bad! :[ Something like 20 to 4 and 19 to 4 I think ! Now I have not been around as long as some of you vets but there is one thing you have shown me, when you are a head by say 7 or 8 points! Some one from the winning team goes to the team that is down ! Now if this is true, why does it take being asked to do this or waiting until its say 12 to 0 before any one even thinks about switching. I also feel when its a slaughter like that, screeming WOOOOOOOOT in the other teams face is very bad sportsmanship. I can understand saying gjt but to me wooot is the worst thing you can do ! So please all, give me some input on this if you think I am in the wrong here! A very sad LONEWOLF :[

Having been a witness (and a cause) to the massacre, I think you're right on the money.

@ the players that were present

I apologize to all of you for my language during those games.

When the heck was all this taking place?? I FINALLY got to sit down and play (gone the last 5 days) and couldn't find any games to play in. Started at the end of a solo scrum, made a few quick goals before the end. Then the game that started next was completely boring.... Nobody scored for about the first 5 minutes, so I left. There weren't any team games at all so I just tried my luck against the Four Horsemen..... They're Beasts.

I was playing between 9:30-10:30. Oh yeah, I did play a very good CTF match though, but was looking for a TS :(

@Lonewolf

We must be on the same wavelength cause I posted the same kind of thing you do in this thread in MysteryMan's Sportsman thread here:

http://supra.planetthinktanks2.com/archives/comm-thread.asp?thread=2940&forum=4

I even mentioned the same games you mentioned. I guess we were teammates and didn't even know it! What was your alias?

I didn't see lonewolf, that's for sure. I remember playing with GoD, Max-CR and KID...and one other player named HellRaiser who camped very well. Was that you??? If so, you drove TG crazy!!! The final was 19-4 and they had a pretty good team too. KID finally switched, but it was too late.

Here's what I wrote:I also agree with your comments on the use of GG! It is used incorrectly (much like the camper term) way too often!

I've been on both ends of lopsided games and couldn't believe all of the GG's that went around! The same thing is done with N1 and G1's for rather routine or lucky goals. I only hand them out to outstanding goals that were mostly earned by excellent work, even if it came against me!

By the way, I consider it very poor sportsmanship to remain on a team that is totally murdering the opposition. I think it is imperative that one of the top two players on the winning side switches colors if a game has started to get out of hand. For example, it wouldn't make much difference if I or some other average player switches, but it would make an incredible difference if one of the elites decided to switch teams. For example, I was recently in a team scrum game which we won 19-4. We had several incredible players on our side: GoD, Max-CR and KID. Eventually, KID did go green to help TG. But the game ended within a minute of his switch (he scored that 4th goal by the way). I think the best players (or at least whomever is leading their team in scoring at the time) should switch sides if a game has gotten way out of hand. At the very least, the teams should change their lineups at the start of the next game.

@ Paisano

This was late last night at about 1:30 am - 2:30 am central time.

@ ALL

Also for all of you who have not read any of the threads with this statement in it here it is " I will NOT use any aliases from now on, the only way you will see me play is by the name LONEWOLF(UF/AB) " Also if some one can tell me how to copywrite my name I would really be thankful to that person! The One An Only LONEWOLF(UF/AB) B)

@ Cheif

You where not the cause of our massacre. A larg part of it had to do with being out classed and also had to do with that other person that was on our team and I don't mean Bolo. All he/she did was either sit around or got in our way or even killed us at times! It was so bad at one point I even unleashed my anger on that person, not by words but with a repeated volley of bullets. If my memory serves me correct I think I went after that person for 3 straight team kills and I have never done that. Arrrrrrgggggg. B)

I donīt even know what woot means, every 1 I ask just says its a wining expression :S

But anyways, sometimes they switch because the other team has a shortage of team players (I see this all the time, and thatīs quite alright)

As for expressions, I think thatīs only for encouragement of uīr team mates and recognition of their well played game ;)

@ Cadc

Most of the time I agree wooot is only expression but thats not how it was taken last night by me or by my team ! It felt like some one had just slapped me in the face. I use to have a very bad anger problem which I have learn to control but to this day I still loose it if you hit my face in any way shape or forum! Last night when that comment was made as they scored their second to last goal I hit my key board so hard It shut the game off on me ! B)

Hmmm.. Anger can be a good, yet a bad thing in some cases.. But really, self control goes a long way (honestly speaking)

Donīt let such little things upset u like that.

For instance, there was one time when an impostor of #1 Tankster insulted me after I asked him if I was a good player (he replied "u suck")

I canīt stand direct insults, and I had internal anger, and anger so great it kindled a flame within me, and I beat the sorry crap out of him (u see, I use anger to my advantage, when ever someone angers me, they r really hurting themselves, cus my anger enhanses my game play and ability (sort of like if my body swiched to survival mode) and whenever this happens, I am unstopable.

Sometimes anger should be kept within, but when u get into a fight or something, that anger should be released outwarly for protection.

But u never want to lose control (especialy out of anger) it might lead u to do something u might regret later on in life. (so always keep uīr cool)

Cadc (SA) (Leader)

(Ps. 1nce u realize that words canīt hurt u, itīll be all better from there, trust me on that Lone Wolf ;) )

Wolfie,

I agree that there could be more awareness of switching when it gets lopsided. However, alot of times lately a game never really gets out of ther starting gate 'fairly'. In fact it seems to take several games these days to get a critical mass of players who will actually stick around long enough to make good teams. In those cases, especially when a server is not full, I figure let's just play anyway . Otherwise I end up switching teams every 5 minutes and I can't get into a groove (much less remember my freakin' color %) ) especially if I'm pharmaceutically challenged ;). Last night was hard to balance cuz we did not have an even number of good players. For the most part I think people were good about switching. Some times the score gets out of whack even though the teams are fairly even (in terms of individual player talent) - it's the teamwork factor that can be hard to predict how to correct.

People should feel free to suggest a specific switch that makes sense instead of just saying "someone switch now!", because it is not always obvious (to me) how to make it better.

Oh yeah, I think a good natured "woot" is always appropriate as an exclamation of joy after earning a particularly difficult goal. It is not bragging or gloating. It is just a way of venting a rush of victorious energy that bursts forths upon the execution of an excellent goal. Wooooooot!!

I tend not to always analyze the scoreboard. I usually just get into the game. I'm sorry if my 'woots' were offensive. Meant nothing negative at all by it.

@ Reagent

You were very gracious in your victory this morning.

Ps - can I have my ass handed back to me? XD

Wednesday, July 07, 2004 at 7:05:14 PM

My opinion of team switching is that it should be done by the folk with zeros on the scoreboard. A player with more can volunteer to switch, but shouldn't be MADE to switch - after all, by switching they're giving up points.

As for celebrating, I usually hand out the N1's after someone scores against me. If someone either leads me on a long chase or catches me after one, I'll give them a "Good chase". If I score a particularly tricky goal or after a run I didn't think I could make, I'll say "Phew!" I will generally hand out "GG" at the end of each round completely irregardless of the scores - I'm recognizing the effort and skill being used, not the scores being gathered. I can see where this might cause a problem after a blowout though. I'll have to come up with a different phrase.

Wednesday, July 07, 2004 at 7:20:12 PM

@Master TMO

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I don't believe a team loses any points when a player switches. The total score remains the same, but the player's personal total goes back to zero. Anyone know for sure?

Wednesday, July 07, 2004 at 7:26:19 PM

Yup, that's what happens, and that's what I'm talking about. Granted, Team Score is what matters, but it's always nice to see that personal total at the top too.

Wednesday, July 07, 2004 at 7:31:31 PM

I just want to clear some thing up, in my statement about woot. When you are clear on the other side of the map from every one else and you score that second to last goal in a slaughter, to me thats not needed. As far as say gg,gga,N1,gjt or nice chase, I am fine with all that, when it is used in a good point of way. B)
