I'm starting to save up for a bass, but I have absolutely no prior experience with them or anything like them.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good beginner's bass and a good beginner's amp? I already have some tutorials on how to play bass, so hopefully when I find one I can pick it up and play it. :P

Also, what's a good advanced bass/amp? When I get enough money/experience with my beginner one, I can try to work my way up to that one.
Thanks!

Well, first you need a good pole. If you want to catch some good bass, you need a good pole. I've never honestly seen anybody play a fish before, but I guess there must be some way..... 8o

If you want a good bass amp, look at ashdown . They're the best in my personal opinion. If you want a good bass, go for Ibanez. Good stuff. B)

Which ones are better, heads, cabinets or actual amps themselves?

LOL
a head is the amp, a cabinet is the actual speakers
a combo is the better deal, if you're going to be playing in some sort of big concert you want a set of a head and some cabinets. I've never used heads/cabinets before, I just use combos for general playing, and plus you can carry them around easily. ;)

I suppose your are refering to an electric bass. Well, you have come to the right forum my friend. I play both eletric and acoustic bass, and have much playing experience with both of them. There is one thing I don't understand though. Why by a "beginner amp" when you plan to get a better one as you advance in your play. Why not buy the good amp now....it's not like it will affect the way you play. You can save some time and money by buying the "good stuff" first, and not have to make two purchases later. I dunno if you're taking lessons, but if you plan to learn on your own there are plenty of sites that teach you to play and give free tabs for some cool songs you want to learn. I put some links at the bottom....Lessons are good for a week or two to start, but I find it more fun to progress at my own speed and play what I want to play. Good luck on your fishing trip! XD

EDIT: Forgot the links... %)
