I was kicked today by 'Oh Yaaa'.

I entered a server under an alias -- I usually do that when I only have a few minutes to play. I scored 3 goals in a row, fair and square. On the fourth, I was given a private warning for camping. I disputed the camp -- I had respawned, radar showed the scrum near an arrow. I waited near the end-point for the arrow (some distance from the goal). I admit, I was there a little longer than I should have been. It had seemed obvious on the radar that someone was going to take the arrow, but in fact a bot had the scrum. So sure, I'll take the rap. I think we all edge into that gray area.

I defended my 'camp' in a polite manner and asked the admin two or three times to reveal who they were. I was basically told to keep quiet. I said that I thought an admin should be upfront about their identity. And then I was kicked.

I don't mind taking a rap for camping. Especially playing under an alias, when I might otherwise have been given the benefit of the doubt. But what's the deal here? Seemed a little extreme.

I think an admin should use their regular handle. My two cents

IMO no one should use aliases.

I think an admin should use their usual handle when they want to, and use an alias if they wish.

I don't admin much anymore, but have some experience with it from KC's Madbots server. It's not always fun and games. It's good to be able to help keep a server in order, but some people don't respond well to instruction.

I had an incident a year or so ago that made me want to admin under alias. I didn't need the hassle of being bothered by every player in the server all the time. When I used my alias (which the other admins knew), I wasn't hassled on PTT or in game about my decisions to kick or silence or instruct.

You might not like it, but I really understand why admins may choose to go under alias.

Players should act nice all the time not only when they think an admin is in the server! The ones that are nice with admins present but are terrible when they think they are absent are the players I really don't want in my servers.

Yes, but admins can also act differently when they are under alias, like if they have a grudge against a certain player, they can torment that player, without anyone ever knowing it was them. This is why I hate aliases, especially when an admin is using one.

EDIT: For example, there used to be admin who was pretty nasty to Niko and a few others under alias, and they never revealed who they really were. So they basically got away with being a bad admin.

I like to see how people act when they think there is no presence of order. It's actually pretty funny how some people clean up their act after they get the boot if an admin is under alias.

People should be able to use whatever name they like as long as it's not offensive. Takes some personality out of the game and admin'n is more difficult, but 1 o 2 games should give the admin a good idea of one's tallent.

Anyone gonna spill who kicked me today? I won't take it personally %)

Normally, I'd say no one should use an alias, unless they're a coward to show themselves. Although, I can understand an admin using an alias, just to get away from people asking them "can I be an admin" or "ban him, he did this, this, and this to me".

However, if an admin goes under alias, they should not be adminning under that alias. After all, what is the point of using that alias to hide from people if you're just gonna admin anyways?

And, as ^^ pointed out, are the admins there to try and find people doing something wrong, or are they there to keep a smooth-running game? If it's the former, then you shouldn't be an admin at all, because you've become a power-hungry admin, just there to get others in trouble. If it's the latter, then you're probably a good and trustworthy admin, one that others will like, because you have a pure and simple goal.

Wasn't me!!!
I use alias's for an obvious reason. But when I am admining I will always say who I really am, I may wait till someone screws up but I never kick or ban without the person knowing my true identity,

Look it's our server we will do with it an run it as I wish, if I find a admin misusing his or her powers I remove them. Besides in my mods Admins names have to be registered including aliases in-order to log in as an admin in the first place so I always know who they are. My goal is simple, to keep my servers a safe place for all players no matter age race or religion they may happen to be. Don't like it to bad I won't miss you.

It seems obvious to me that Admins in the mainstream servers (Dash and Roos' are the ones I'm mostly visiting) should always use their real names; with power comes responsibility.

I never uses alial and I really wonder why people do, but what they do as a solo player is their thing. As admin though, they serve the community and their name should be displayed; you cannot hide since you're in a public duty.

Jacques we need to know which server you were in.

Also camping or playstyle has nothing to do with it; I thought only team killing was a no-no.

Hey why not, its the cool thing to do. I mean heck if you have a good game you get to let everyone know who you were. Bad game you just leave without saying a word, no skin off your balls.

I usually go around as "fuji." I can also be seen as one of these three great contributors to television: William Shatner, Leonary Nimoy and DeForest Kelley, and when I do, u sually tell the people im playin with. As for admins, they should never use aliases, at least not when theyre usin their powaz in a server.

I love my randylion

I personally don't like it at all when admins use an alias. Personally, I try and stick to the few servers of those I like. I try not and enter any of these other idiots servers. I stick to the Scrum servers owned by the cool idiots like; Roo, Dash, BC, Nappy, GQ, Nuts and RX.

I don't even lay a tread in any of the other putzes Scrum servers.

Like a midget at a urinal, I was going to have to be on my toes.

Invite a retard to a picnic and you'd better expect to get drool in the potato salad.

It can be fun to change names at times, admin or not. I don't admin differently whether I'm under whatever name. Anyhow, the owner can trace it back and find out who screwed up with admin powers. Makes no difference I think.

Interesting thoughts all. Thanks for weighing in.

@Hugo: I believe I was in Indy Banlist.

Reagrding using aliases in general... I do prefer to use my own name. I mostly use an alias to avoid my 'fan club' and only ocasionally if I know I'll have to hit the Wife Panic-Button before too long (control-Q).

I don't see how an alias name effect administration if it was just casual administering at the first place. If the alias name have an negative effect on the outcome. Then you should stick to your regular name. I do see atleast one reason why someone's may prefer to use alias: to avoid getting labelled as a personal genie with unfinited wishes.

You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.
