Get Scrum - take to goal.
The harder it is to steer, the harder you are to hit! Use the terrane... ;)
Get them smoking, wait until they have the scrum, then finish them off.
1. Use rocks, trees and terrain as your cover, so you won't be killed.
2. Don't rush to goal use your common sense.
3. Use speed pads and jump pads wisely.
4. Don't shoot smoking tanks who are faraway from goal. They can get respawned next to goal.
5. Patience is key to victory.
6. Learn other players playing style and make conclusion what will be scrum holding player next move.
7. Don't be a cliff diver.
8. Don't be a camper.
9. Don't use vulgar language.
10. HAVE FUN!
You don't have to let go of one rope before grabbing the other. But you'll have to let go of one if you want to swing forward.

11. If you're only being chased by one tank, it may be worth your while to drive backwards and try and kill him as you go. Do not attempt this if you are unfamiliar with the terrain you're going to be going thru. Also do not slow down under any circumstances. Finally, ALWAYS watch your radar for scrum-stealers hitting you from behind. If you see one coming, turn around.
I'm not as good at scoring backwards as TankGirl, but I have done it before. My crowning achievement in this is driving most of the way across a Frantic map backwards and scoring. I got lucky in that there were no mineral deposits between me and the goal, and that I had big boomers loaded when I got the scrum and hammered everybody with them as they chased me.

You move faster when you slide!
If someone is smoking with the flag along the perimiter, don't shoot him! Wait for him to come back out, or fall off the cliff!
If you're far away from the goal and getting shot at... Pass the scrum to the shooter, let him carry it to the goal for you, just be sure to blow him away before he gets there.
If you see a camper in the goal, cut off to the right or left of him, then back up into the goal! *gets em every time!*
If you see a crowd at the goal, slow down a bit and let them kill eachother off! Especially in team scrum...
I've got a lot more tips, but that's enough for now... ENJOY!
I am getting marginally better at scoring. I did this by not backing up unless it is in an open field. Doing it close to the goal seldom works for me. But I also still stop frequenly which I agree is a no-no. Only stop to change directions in front of a person and then don't stop for long or you are history.
The only time I stop or slow down is if I have an obstacle between me any my chasers. I'll slow down to get a tight turn around a rock, for instance. Naturally, I also stop if I happen to drive right into a tree - which has shamefully happened a few times.
Do lots and lots of zig-zags
Drive backwards so you can fire at the people behind you
Use camswitcher to your advantage ;)

@spunk, driving backwards is actually not good. If you have alot fo eepes chasing you, shooting will do no good, and will disruipt your driving focus. You will automatically swerve less, and may hit trees. It's like driving with a sellphone...
Run backwards,swerving,that is all...
Go forward while moving side to side, because a lot of ppl sniper u from a distance and usally miss if u swerve.

It works for me because I use the camswitcher from time to time to check if I'm about to back into something.
When someone comes from side stop let them fly past and continue
